View Full Version : Dessert for a bbq...?
Having a bbq this arvo and want to make something for dessert - any ideas?
I dont want to make one of my 'regulars'

tiramisu (easy version)
mmm trifle sounds good - except I am thinking maybe a choccy version ( I dont like the whole jelly custard style one) with choc cake, choc mousse and cream....??
Might be a bit rich?? Not all of us are pregnant
or tiramisu yeah, good ideas! Thank you!

Ahhh good idea with the Banoffi M - I think it is between the Choc trifle and Banoffi
Maybe I will take the ideas to DF and let him decide which one...
What's Banoffi?? I'm intrigued :D
What's Banoffi?? I'm intrigued :D
I was wondering the same thing
What about a chocolate log. Made with chocolate bikkies, and cream. My friend made one recently and the recipe she had put cocoa in the whipped cream (hmm i think it was cocoa) anyway it was the most delicious thing I have tasted in ages....my mouth still drools thinking about it 6 weeks later. It was a Donna Hay recipe.
I found this - OMG I just put on 10kg's looking at the pic lol!!!

Maybe some banana and pineapple fritters on the BBQ.. sorry not much help
MrsP That looks devine.... yummmoooooooooooo
A bit late now but this is always a hit at our BBQ's for dessert -it is beautiful!!
CHOCOLATE PAVLOVA
6 egg whites
300g caster sugar
3 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. balsamic or red wine vinegar
50g dark chocolate, finely chopped
Topping
500ml thickened cream
500g raspberries/strawberries
2-3 tbsp. coarsely grated dark chocolate
Preheat oven to 180 degrees and line a baking tray with baking paper. Beat the egg whites until satiny peaks form, and then beat in the sugar a spoonful at a time until the meringue is stiff and shiny. Sprinkle over the cocoa and vinegar and the chopped chocolate. Then gently fold everything until the cocoa is thoroughly mixed in. Mound onto the baking tray in a fat circle about 23 cm in diameter, smoothing the sides and top. Place in the oven, the immediately turn the temperature down to 150 degrees and cook for 1-1 ¼ hours. Turn off the oven and open the door slightly and let the pavlova cool completely in the oven. To serve, invert onto a big plate and top with whipped cream, berries and grated chocolate.
mmm yummo cath that pav sounds delicious!
MrsP that cake looks pretty damn good too!! Oh my mouth is watering!!
OHH YUMM! Thanks Cath! I ended up making a pavalova cause when I asked DF what he thought of the two ideas he said nahh a pav!
Will definately have to try that one!!
The chocolate pavlova really is the best and it is really easy which is good. I often have to make 2 if we are having a few people because everyone wants some. Just talking about it now I want some!! It is all nice and squidgy in the middle with hidden chunks of chocolate - yummo!
Also I find that 500ml of cream is too much. That's what the recipe says but I think 300ml of whipped cream is enough.
