View Full Version : mixing formula's
my ds has a slight bit of reflux and the MCHN has suggested giving him S26 AR for his feeds. his reflux is not too bad and i have only been giving him one to two 120ml bottles a day. the rest of the feeds we are giving him NAN HA1.
is it ok to do this? will it harm him in any way?
I was told by my CHN that you shouldn't mix forumlas because it can upset their tummies or something like that. She told me it is ok to switch forumla once in a while, like DS1 was on S26 AR for about 6 months and then I switched him over to Heinz.
I'm not sure if this is true or not, it was just what I was told.

Mixing is not really a good idea unless changing over totally so slowly introducing more bottles of a new formula say.
If the reflux isnt too bad then i would prop bubs as much as possible even his cot as well as keeping him upright after a feed for at least 15mins rather than using a reflux formula but it really is your call. My bubs had mild silent reflux but we chose not to change due to him having trouble taking the S-26 AR instead put a few of these measures into place & things went well.
Otherwise i would take bubs to the paediatrician to ask for more advice.
Good luck. :)

Just use the thickener instead that is what we use as that way you can control how thick you want to make it. It only comes in the Karicare brand but that won't be classed as mixing formulas. I agree it probablt isn't a great idea to mix formulas unless you are changing over formulas completly.

Connor has reflux as well. My MCHN said to use thickener in his bottle, but it caused severe constipation - so we have decided that he is just a happy little chucker.
As for mixing formulas I wouldn't recommend it as it will probably cause stomach pains. All formulas are made up differently.
