i have a five week old forula fed baby!!
she is my second bub.
she has been majorly unsettled and screamed for most of her life!!!!
the chn suggested some mylanta and to change teats from the avent to the pigeon ones.. she has been a totally different child in the last day since doing this.
part of the issue is that she has not put on the amount of weight that they would hace liked and this is due to her not wanting to drink much.. on averahe i can only get her to have 50-80mls every 3hrs or so...sometimes i can get up to 110m;s. the chn says her target should be 720mls a day... im lucky to get 500mls into her..
Not sure if i should be worried as she doesnt look unhealthy at all and she was a bigger byb born (8lb 11ozs)..
i am using nan...
any suggestions????? or should i be stressed out?
Hi there,
Have you tried or thought about changing formula's, maybe Nan is just not for her. And is Mylanta for heartburn and reflux?? I don't know but maybe your little cherub may have silent reflux or something.
Good luck

Congrats on the birth of your bub and :hugs: to you. I know how stressful it can be trying to make bubs happy (my first was a screamer:rolleyes: )
I am not sure if i can help you, hopefully another mum will pop in here and give you some information but i am thinking that she is having plenty for her age. My DD2 was only a small drinker when she was little. Always having less than the tin recommended.
My opinion is 720ml seems alot for a 5 week old bubba. I figure if she is drinking and having plenty of wet nappies, there is not much more you can do. You cannot force them to drink what they don't want.

I agree, babies are good at letting you know if they are hungry or full.
If she has at least 5-6 cloth wet nappies in a day or 4 disposables a day and pooing ok, then she is fine.
What is on the tin is just a guide you don't have to follow it to the t. Let bubs guide you.
As for being unsettled.
All i can suggest is checking the following.
Wind
Wet/Dirty Nappy
Too hot/Too cold
Hungry.
Or she may have reflux? Does she do 'wet' sounding burps or wet hiccups?
If so then she may have reflux, speak to Gp about that.
As for CHN's in my experience you take what they say with a grain of salt. HTH
We've now got our 4 week old on the Pigeon bottles and teats instead of the Avent ones, and it has made a huge difference in our opinion. His feeding is much better, and much less wind and discomfort.
In my limited experience, the guide on the forumla can is just that - a guide. Our little one is on between 850-950 ml of formula a day right now, has never looked healthier and gained 900gms in a fortnight according to our 4 week check-up y'day.
He was a healthy size when born, and is now 5.2 kilos. If we kept him on 720mls as the guide on the can suggests, he'd not be satisfied. We work on the "other estimate" - between 150ml and 200ml of formula a day per kilo of baby weight.
It doesn't mean we feed him all the time - he woke up at 4am this morning seemingly hungry but ended up going back to sleep (and even self-settling to an extent) for 2 and a half hours - he wasn't hungry ... something was just bugging him.
Other replies have stated it well, if he has regular wet/pooey nappies, seems satisifed with the amount of food he is getting, is being burped if needed, etc, you're on the right track.

Totally agree!!!! Sounds like our wonderful friend 'REFLUX'... Can i suggest maybe trying a new formula... It is about this age where there bio rhythms are starting to sort themselves out and the formula may not be agreeing with her...
The fact that she's not taking much could be the silent reflux and it's definitely worth checking up on that sooner than later... This can be excruciatingly painful... The other thing could be that she's getting tired whilst feeding which could be she's either working to hard sucking ( which tire out little bubs) or she's getting a little too fast... She may handle it fine a little fast and not choke but they feel fuller quicker... Anyway, i hope this helps... These have been my experiences...
x x All the best:hugs:
