View Full Version : ~*November mums and bubs*~
Thought it was about time we got one of these up and running since some of our november mummies have already had their beautiful bubs:smiliedance:
So very excited at the prospect of posting in here soon!
Hi ladies!!! Thought it was about time we got this chat thread up and running since there are a fair few of us who have had our bubs and o many on there way!
Things are going brilliantly here! I feel so much more settled and comfortable this time than with Abby. Breastfeeding is going really well although my right boob is super sore, no attachment issues it just seems to have not taken so nicely to breastfeeding as the left one has so i have expressed some feeds to give it a bit of a break.
Robbie currently has anywhere between 2-3-4 hours between feeds depending on how long he feeds for but normally he is on for about 20-30 mins then i change his nappy to wake him up again and put him back on for another 15-20 mins.
He is such a male though, eyes open must feed straight away! Anything that goes near his mouth must be a booby so must be latched onto whether it be my arm or john's finger or his own arm, wrap, anything:laughing:
He already has such a little personality it is very cute! I will be honest, the birth happened so quickly that I felt a bit numb and strange about it all afterwards and I said to john that i was worried about not feeling the instant love rush and bond with him but im happy to say that has completely gone now. I was just stressing again for no reason :o
robbie is still wearing size 00000 clothes as the 0000 are just swimming on him except bonds wondersuits he is in 0000 in them and theyre quite snug.
We went out for the first time today and can definately say it was too soon. John and I stressed out and ended up just coming home. It was so hot, crowds everywhere, screaming kids everywhere - just couldnt deal with it!
Anyway better go, Robbie is starting to stir so that is my queue. Hope all is well ladies! Can't believe that it is all over now! Seems to have gone so quickly looking back at things (I never thought after the last few weeks i'd be saying that  )
Take Care All!:hugs:
hi Ladies (hope someone will join me in here soon  ) Had a great day at home resting today. It is just too hot to venture outside with bubs! spent the day turning air con on for half an hour then when it became freezing turning it off for half an hour  so annoying!
For some reason my stomach muscles have started aching today! The after birth pains had stopped a few days ago (my god werent they painful!) so it isnt them but just feels like i have pulled all the muscles in my tummy. This happened to anyone else? John thinks it is just my body going back into place again. Have had to take panadol and would have the heat pack if it wasnt so damn hot!
Robbie is feeding for less amount of time each feed today but is sleeping for longer periods between feeds so I assume he is getting all he needs? It is so hard to trust in him that he is getting all he wants/needs but im getting better at it! really would like time to slow down as it is already nearly a week since i had him! seems like so long ago but only yesterday! Time please slow down!
Anyway Robbie is due to wake up for a feed shortly so better go, Hope all is well with you all and post in here soon!!!
Much love and :hugs: to all!

Well it's day 5 now and Ali is a perfect angel during the day but unsettled at night. The first night we got home (day 3) was a shocker. I had the baby blues as well and had about 2hrs sleep. She was comfort feeding all night as my milk hadn't all come in yet and she was helping it along apparently (that's what the midwife said).
Dropped DS off at Kindy yesterday and went to the shops quickly to hand in all the paperwork to medicare etc... and all the oldies stopped to have a look at her. They were all shocked that I was out of hospital already.
Last night was much better just a wake period from 2am - 4.30am so we're getting there.
Today DH looked after her whilst I went a did a big food shop. Thought I should do it today because he's going back to work on Monday and just can't think about taking 2 kids out just yet. Having a quiet weekend got family coming over tomorrow for a squiz and then I'll try and get back into some type of normality when DH goes back to work on Monday.
We came home yesterday when Rylan was just over 48hrs old... and he did not sleep at all last night.. and finally settled at 5.30 and proceed to sleep until 11am.. Little bugger.
My milk came in pretty quickly and my (.)(.) are so huge and sore and my glands under my arms are huge and it kills to have my arms by my sides, hes slowly getting sucking worked out and is actually having about 6 or so sucks before falling asleep.. so we'll get there.
Other than that Rylan is a placid little thing and so far an absolute pleasure..
I'm still having nightmares about my labour and delivery and tossing up whether to lodge a complaint with the hospital in an attempt to save someone else from what we went through.
Tally- I have no idea what you went through but want to send you some :hugs: of support!
I hear you about the sore (o)(o) though! My goodness! They have settled down for me in the last day or two but they were absolutely massive and that is saying something since i was an F cup before!
Now when Robbie latches on it hurts for about 20-30 seconds then no pain until about 5 minutes after he has finished feeding then I get this burning sensation on my (o)(o). thought it might be them re-filling? or getting used to being emptied? no idea really though but it bloody hurts!
Seems we all have unsettled night bubs! Robbie has his days and nights mixed up and wants to sleep all day and be fussy all night/morning. He isnt a big crier - only when his eyes first open and there is no boob in his mouth within 10 seconds  We had a good night last night, he woke at 10 then down at about 11 then up at 2:30-3:30 then up again at 6:10-7 ish then up again at 10. That was a pretty good night as he didnt fuss inbetween feeds he slept through which was brilliant. I just need to make sure I change his nappy to wake him after he has fallen asleep the first time then feed him again.
Are you guys feeding from one boob per feed? I started off doing it that way as I know it's better for him to get the hind milk this way but the boob that didnt get emptied would leak everywhere and be so engorged and sore by the next feed that I couldnt do it! Im sure it would have settled in time but it was so painful. So as of yesterday I have been feeding him on one side then changing him to wake him up then feeding him on the other side. Surely this can't be too bad right?
Perrywinkle- Good on you for getting out to the shops! I say this because I went to westfields with John, Abby and Robbie last wednesday and got myself so incredibley stressed out I vowed to not go to the shops again for a while  It was crowded, Robbie was screaming for a feed, went into the baby change room and it was packed full of people with screaming babies, so very stressful. I didnt end up handing in my forms to medicare just piled everyone back in the car and sent them off in the post.
Anyway best go Robbie is due to wake up for a feed again shortly and im so buggered!
Take Care everyone and hope we all have good nights tonight :fingerscrossed: :hugs:
Hi girls! Congrats again on the birth of your beautiful babies! :smiliedance: I'm enjoying reading what you're getting up to on here. :fingerscrossed: I'll be joining you soon!!!
I'm still having nightmares about my labour and delivery and tossing up whether to lodge a complaint with the hospital in an attempt to save someone else from what we went through.
Tally - If you feel it will help give you some closure, then I'd do it for sure. I think I asked you this before but have forgotten where you said! What hospy did you have him in? Its just that my first thought was Burnside......I've been hearing a fair few horror stories from out of there in the last couple of years. I hope you can get some peace about it soon.
Kizmet - It sounds like Robbie is doing great!! and he's cute-to-boot!! :D
Kiz, I only feed from one side at a time.. Rylan really isnt sucking well and I doubt hes getting any hind milk at all at this point and hes not even taking the pressure of them. I'm meant to have a midwife visit tomorrow so am going to speak to her about it as he only has about 6 sucks and falls sound asleep and we cant rouse him.. so its getting to be a bit of a worry.
Watch the burning sensation - I've only had mastitis once and that was with DS2 11yrs ago.. but it could turn into that.
Nan I was at Flinders, had Zade there as well 3yrs ago and had the most wonderful birthing experience ever - but this one was far from it. I'm just so worried that someone could loose their baby because of this persons inadequacies, and we'd never forgive ourselves if we didnt at least get something on the hospitals files.
Life for us returns to normal tomorrow. Dh only had Thursday off from work - as we own our own business... so it was lucky that I got to come home on Sat and have him there for the weekend. I also return to work too.. no rest for the wicked as they say, but at least I can do it from home... I'm a little worried about being on my own and having to drive again.. as I'm not back to full strength yet.. but life goes on..
:fingerscrossed: that our little darlings sleep better tonight.. we've had visitors for the majority of the day so hopefully its really tired him out.

I'm feeding from both boobs but with the second boob she isn't empting it out completely so when she wakes for her next feed I start on the boob she last fed from if all that makes sense. I've also decided not to change her nappy unless No2's is present because I want her not to be fully awake so she settles easier when back in to her cot. I had the midwife here yesterday to check her weight again and she said if you can feed as often as you can like every 2-3hrs they will be more settled during the night. And we tried it yesterday and it worked last night we had a much better night last night. She went to bed at 8pm woke at 12 for a feed back down at 12.30pm then up again at 3.15am then down again at 4.15am and up at 7am. So a much better night for us last night. She has also recommened colic drops for he as well caled 'Infants Friend' all natural and can be use from birth to help releive her wind which has helped too.
As for the shops DS was at Kindy so it was just DH, Myself and Ali so I haven't gone out by myself yet need to at the end of the week but that's a while away yet LOL!!!!
So I'm going to be a mad milk machine today and see if it's true and she's better again tonight.
Take care everyone!

Hey girls
Everything is going great here. I'm feeling so much more confident this time around than I was with DS. Even though it's been 7 years since I had a newborn, everything just seems to be making sense to me and I'm not constantly worrying that I'm doing the wrong thing.
Sophie is sleeping really well during the day but is unsettled at night from around 6-7pm to 11pm. It's not a whole lot of fun but I guess it's better than being in the middle of the night.
Breastfeeding is going great for me. I haven't had any pain or attachment issues which is just fantastic. I thought I was going to have a repeat of DS on my hands because she just wouldn't latch on for her second feed in hospital, even with the midwife's help, and ended up being syringe fed. Since then she's been great though.
Oops, have to go now. Heading to my grandmother's for lunch - our first outing!!!

Hi Ladies
I'm not in this group but just wanted to stick my head in and see if anyone has heard from Rainbowbrite or if they knew how she was getting along?
hey noahsmama,
RB is taking some time off BH at the moment. She is having so much pain from the SPD and on top of that has a cold and MJ is sick too. I will pass on your concern :hugs: Sending them lots of healing vibes :babydust2:

My baby is growing way too fast.. she has put on 1kg in the last fortnight.. :crying:
Thats double the average.. I dont want her to grow up to quickly..
Everything is going great.. she is sleeping well and feeding is going great as you can tell by her weight gain.. lol I must have super milk.. My boobies are coping perfectly as she is great at latching on so im not sore at all..
Highly recommend the lactation cookies but watch out they are soooo addictive..
oops shes hungry.. will post more later.. :)
Goose-I'm glad to hear everything is going so well! Wow a kilo! You definately have super milk! I just love your av!:bee: So gorgeous!!
Tally-I was worried about mastitis with the pain:yes: it is only happening in my left breast. I googled it and I dont have all the symptoms, have 2 of 4 do you have to have all of them? Im trying to massage any lumps out at every feed and applying heat also have just started expressing after feeds if he doesnt completely empty the left breast. Not sure whether that is the best thing to do as it will keep my supply up there. I did it today and didnt have pain after so going to see how we go.
It sounds like all our bubs have settled in really well!
I bought a moby wrap, figured out how to work it today  put Robbie in it and he was asleep straight away! Am now convinced this is the best thing ever
I know bubs have growth spurts at 14 days but is it possible for him to be having one now at 10 days? He has fed for 2 hours at a time with only an hour between feeds for the most part of the night and today. I ended up expressing to give my (o)(o) a break! Figured it must be a growth spurt or else i dont know what is going on
Im having a trial run on my own tomorrow providing we dont have a horror night tonight. Going to send DH out to play golf or see a movie or something for half the day so i know in my head i can do it on my own. I know i can but i just want to ease myself into it. Was going to do it on friday but figure if there are any issues i need to address then it is best to do it before the weekend as our weekends are out of routine and all over the place anyway. :fingerscrossed: all goes well!
Anyway best be off just finished cooking dinner and I want to get that down and into bed as i have a major sleep deprivation headache!
Take care all

Kaitlyn takes less than a minute and she is  in mine.. They are great aren't they..
Kate I dont think you have to have all the symptoms so keep a check on it, hopefully massaging the lumps will be enough but get it checked if you feel its not getting any better.
I dont think theres any real time frame for growth spurts, it wasnt consistent with any of my kids.
I went out on my own today for the first time, getting out the door by 9.45am was a bit of a schmozzle lol.. but we got there.. I'd forgetten how much extra time one needs to get a baby organised lol.
Rylans going along beautitfully, hes such a lovely placid baby and I cant get enough of him.. :bee:
About to head off to bed, I'm extremely aneamic apparently so am pretty buggered most of the time.

Kizmet, this thread is such a good idea, I have only just now found it though.
My little man is wonderful.:sunshine: I am sad though that I wont be going back for another (ivf far too stressful and expensive) so I am hoping he doesnt grow to quickly. He is feeding well although I am up 3 or 4 times at night to feed him. He only cries when he is hungry so I feel truly blessed.
Tally I had major bleeding after delivery. I had to be on a drip for 12 hours to slow it down. It has made me very tired. I wondered if the process of ivf makes any difference to how the body reacts to labor.
Kizmet, your little robbie must be tiny. My baby was born 55 cm long and has already outgrown 000. He is now in 00 and is only 3 weeks old.
Kaitlyn takes less than a minute and she is asleep: in mine.. They are great aren't they..
They are the best invention ever! now if only they could get some air con going in the wrap it would be perfect!

Thanks for the advice tally:hugs: Good on you for getting out and about! I forgot how long it takes to get ready with a newborn as well, took us an extra 3 hours the other day because i insisted we couldnt do the half hour drive until he had another feed...which was due in 2 hours
Glad to hear everything is going so well with Rylan!

No excuses Kate.. Go ahead with it.. Im on msn if you need me.. :hugs:
I did it! John is currently out playing golf with his dad:smiliedance: must say though that by the time he left for golf it was nap time so i put abby to bed then fed robbie and put him in the rocker so ive had me time for about 45 minutes now
Well, techinically I shouldn't be in here yet as I'm still pg, but I'm enjoying reading how the new bubbas are going.
goose - That is terrific weight gain, but I know how you feel. They are new for such a short time!
kizmet - Hope you're enjoying your 'me' time! 45 mins. :smiliedance: Woohoo!

 Wow, Tally!! Eden didn't get into 00 until she was about 9 months old!! lol Just illustrates how they're all so different hey?
Well, still no baby action for me, but its cool, I'm not over it. I'm pretty patient. I'm enjoying spending time with Eden & doing some stuff I haven't had time to do for ages like window shopping & scrapbooking etc. Oh and watching TV. I'd forgotten we had one!!
Enjoy your day girls. :sunshine:

So jealous right now!!!! Last night we had a bad night couldn't settle her till around 11pm then up at 2am then 6am. She's very windy and a spewy baby which is the complete opposite to DS1. Mind you she is only 8 days old so can't expect her to sleep through sometimes I wish though!

Good on you Nan for being patient. It can be frustrating towards the end being so close to your due date but I got into my scrapbooking to towards the end and I thought it was a great time. Bub will come soon :babydust2:
Well I went out today for the first time by myself and all went well. I managed to get everything I wanted except for a present for a friend of mine which I couldn't find the right one but apart from that DS was great walking around (normally use a stroller) and with my 4 wheeler I can put him in the pram too with DD so when he's tired he can have a rest too. Got some Xmas shopping done too.
Both kids were in bed by 7.45pm tonight so I'm going to rest in front of the TV and do NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chow!!!
Not much happening here, Rylans just so placid lol..
Rylans still in 00000's but I doubt thats going to last much longer..
Tuesday night he fed at 10pm, 2pm, & 6am
Last night it was 9pm, 12am, 3am & 6am...
I cant believe how good he is at night.. if I only have to get up to him like that i'll be happy and hopefully they spread out a little more and he drops one of the middle of the night feeds. I'm getting more sleep now than when I was pregnant. :yelclap:
I cant believe he is a week old already...
4Tiggers I know what you mean about the ivf, luckily this labour has really turned me off wanting to do it again. My big bleed was during the 1st stage of labour... :( and wasnt attended to in the correct manner.. after speaking to our gp we are confident there was neglect on the midwives part so will be writing to the hosp to get it on record so hopefully it doesnt happen to anyone else.
We head off in the morning for an almost 1000km round trip over the weekend, so that will be interesting, we did it with Zade as well and he travelled beautifully, :fingerscrossed: Rylan does the same.
I cant believe he is a week old already..

OMG I had the worst night ever since she's been born. She was upset from 9pm - 4am. I ended up bringing her into bed with me and she just layed on her tummy agaist my chest. Everytime she would be placed in her cot she'd scream like she was in so much pain. Going to take her back to the hospital tomorrow and get her checked by the lactation consultant. I'm thinking it's Colic or Reflux that's upsetting her we just need to get on top of it before I loose it. LOL!!!!
So I'm having a quiet day today just have to go to the shops to get the basics and will stay home the rest of the day.
I hope she settles soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perrywinkle sending you lots of :hugs: and energy vibes :goodvibes: today!
Tally-wow 1000km round trip! I hope Rylan is good in the car for you :fingerscrossed:
I have figured out what Robbie is doing of an evening now. I had no idea what cluster feeding is turns out he did though:laughing: He cluster feeds for about 3-4 hours straight then sleeps for 6 hours . last night he went down at 7:45 and woke up at 1:45 then down again until about 6:30ish
Feelign very lucky but now worried that he starts cluster feeding at about 3, thats fine now john is home but when he is back at work i cant sit on the lounge for 4 hours straight as I will be alone with the 2 kiddies and Abby just wont go for that. So this afternoon we're going to try and delay the cluster feeding as much as possible to hopefully try to move his routine back to starting at 6pm which is when John gets home from work. Alternatively I can ask my mum to come over after work, which i think she probably will do once john is back at work and my grandma is out of hospital anyway but i'd prefer it if we could adjust the routine.
My (o)(o) hurt so very very very much! If I want to hug john i have to keep my chest away from him as anything touching them hurts so much. When Robbie feeds it hurts for 30 seconds then stops and is fine for the rest of the feed but it hurts so bad for those 30 seconds
We went to the CHN this morning and he is putting on weight really well! Apparently they give them 2 weeks to reach their birth weight again after they lose the initial weight.Robbie is at 12 days now and was born 3.56 kg and is now 3.65kg :smiliedance: Makes me feel so much more comfortable with bfing him as John was stressing about not knowing how much he was getting each feed.
Anyway best go am absolutely starving
will come back and write more later :hugs:
OMG I had the worst night ever since she's been born.
Aawww, lots of hugs for you both. :hugs:
Kizmet - Hugs for your boobies, too! :hugs:

kizmet, My wee one seems to feed the same in the evening but I only get 2 hours before he wakes for another feed . Robbie sounds like a trooper.
tally, I hope the trip went well. I am sorry Rylans birth wasnt the best. It does make you think twice about having any more. Love Rylans name. It was my favourite name for this bub but dh had other ideas.
perrywinkle, hope bubs is feeling better and you have a chance to get some .
I thought that we had a routine mapped out ... apparently not  I tried to adjust it a few hours back so his 6 hour block was after 12 instead of until 2am but as soon as I fiddled with the times at all he decided he didnt want to do his block cluster feed and wanted to wake every hour all night  Am now just letting him do whatever he feels he needs to
Had a bad night last night, he was unsettled on and off the boob which is really hard as they are hurting so much!
Not having a great afternoon as im having some nerve pain :hissy: I thought it was just pregnancy related but it wont go away! I had panadol just before two so am watching the clock to have some more...not that they do anything really. I still have panadeine forte here but I dont think it is ok while breastfeeding...but how could it not be if I took it while pregnant IyKWIM?
off to google and call the health line to find out

Hi girls, thought I might venture over to this thread now I'm officially a mummy (again!!)
Sounds like you're all doing well. Blake and I have been home since Wednesday and seem to be settling into things. His first night home was a bit of a horror - Craig and I got about an hours sleep between us, but we were kind of expecting that! Thursday night was good - Blake slept between feeds (feeding about every 3-4 hours). Last night was another shocker, but I have myself to blame as I had a Big Mac for lunch which I think might not have agreed with Blake. He was burping, hiccupping, farting and pooing all night!!
Today we had some visitors - my sister came from Canberra with her boyfriend and little boy, and a friend of ours came from Orange. Blake was so good all day, and had quite alot of awake time, so we're hoping he'll sleep well tonight.
I'm doing ok considering how little sleep I've had, but I think it's probably easier due to me being used to shift work. I just nap whenever I can and am getting just enough.
Anyway, I'm now off to change my username, so will let you all know what it is when I do it.
Oh, I have joined this thread just in the nick of time . . . THANKYOU!!!!
Ok, I'd love to tell you how it's been going the last few nights, but honest to god, I can't remember.
All I know is somtimes Xavia sleeps an hour sometimes three. I feed her whenever she wakes - one boob, nappy change, other boob, cuddle, first boob again (or which ever is fullest) to go back to sleep sometimes.
She's done all the things expected - day two was on a feeding frenzy to get my milk in. Day three settled and was more satisfied after each feed. Day four stared getting bowel pains (screams her head off poor baby) and pooing a lot. Day five more and yet more pooing. And more unsettled.
She sleeps better during the day. Last couple of night have been difficult. The middie said around day 4/5 your real milk is coming in and thier digestive sytem gets a bit upset so they don't settle.
I sent Dh out to get that Infant's Friend colic relief. I gave it to her last night at 3am. I was dropping off to sleep holding her! so I lay down in bed with her on my chest (she settles there) like you perrywinkle, and after a bit more screaming, a poo and a burp - she slept . . . . for FIVE HOURS!!!!!!!! (I put her in the pram after one hour on me)
I kept checking to see if she was awake. At 9.15 she stirred so I got her up to feed her b/c I thought 5hrs was too long between feeds?? She went straight back to sleep after 15min on one boob. Stirred at 11am, so I picked her up to feed her again. One boob - straight back to sleep. She is SO SLEEPY today!
I called my sis b/c I was worried she was sleeping too much, but she said it was fine.
So, I'm so glad to read that you have all had similar experiences. I was worried the Infant's Friend had drugged her to sleep!! Nice to know your middie recommended it. I guess it is helping settle her tummy and break down the wind. She seem to be having such trouble opeinng her eyes today, she must need the sleep.
She's not the only one.
Overall she is an angel. A really good baby. I'm still learning the 'burp me' cry and the 'feed me' cry, thankfully the turing head/sucking hand is a giveaway for one.
So quick question - do I just wait for her to wake, become alert and 'ask' to be fed? She attached really well from the first, clever girl (one boob has been pinched a couple times so is a bit tender). But OMG - my t*ts are so HUGE and SORE!
Ok, stopping now before I write a book. Thanks if you're still reading . . .

Different people do different things re: waking or not waking so I think it is completely up to you. My theory has always been if they are sleeping let them sleep. The only time we 'wake' Robbie is when he has fallen asleep after the first boob feed (we have the same routine boob nappy change boob burp boob then sleep or something he will go another burp then boob) then we change his nappy and put him back on again. It is hard but trust in the fact that if she is hungry she will wake up and let you know about it. Definately take the opportunity to sleep while she does!
I hear you about the sore (o)(o) though!!! Mine were so engorged and sore I would just want to cry and they leaked like there was no tomorrow!!! good news is that they will settle though!! Mine are just settling now! Thank god!!!
Glad to hear everything is going so well with everyone!! I will be back to post more later on!

Shana, I agree with Kiz, it just depends on the person and whatever advice you've been given. Blake wakes between 3 and 4 hours for his feeds so I haven't had to worry about actually waking him as such, but if it went much past the 4 hour mark I would probably get him up (only because the weather's pretty warm so I want him to have fluids on board!).
Sorry to hear about the sore boobies and unsettled bubs, girls. I hope everything settles down soon. I'm trying some natural induction stuff tonight as I really want to meet my little one. The suspense is killing me!! Pregnancy itself is totally fine, but I'm just inpatient to meet this child hearing about all of yours!!
ooo sending you labour vibes nan! :babydust2:
We had a pretty good night last night! Robbie woke up twice but instead of me putting him back into his rocker after his feed/nappy change/ feed I kept him in bed with me and god it was so much easier!!! He slept a lot better, was more settled and that meant more time between feeds for me to sleep! :smiliedance:
John is back at work today and so far so good! yes yes I know it is only 9:30  but I have been stressing so much about being alone with the two kiddies but it is going pretty well! The afternoon/evening will be the hardest time as they both get unsettled around then and Abby gets keen for John to come home so can get a bit crazy
Poor thing she got up so keen to see John this morning. Was running around calling out daddy daddy looking everywhere for him even after I told her that he was at work, so we ended up ringing him at work and she had a good chat and hasnt asked for him since so that is good!
I am totally taking advantage of the diego and backyardigans hour on nick jr so I can post
Must get some washing out today though as I have so much piling up since the rain!
I think Robbie has a bit of an upset tummy today, he was crying so much when I tried to get him to lie down on his back and would only get comfy on his tummy on my chest then there was that much action in his pants it was just not funny!! wonder what I ate yesterday to set him off :detective:
Anyway hope all is well ladies!

I am so stoked!! We had the best night with Blake last night. He is proving to be such a placid laid back little kid. He fed about every 3 hrs on the dot, and didn't cry when he wanted to be fed, just lay there gurgling and cooing. How cute! Even though I only got sleep in 2 - 2 1/2 hour blocks, I feel like I've slept for a solid 8 hours! It's the best I've slept for about 5 or 6 months.
I won't get too cocky though as I know babies can change their habits from one day to the next, but I am totally enjoying this little bubba at the moment.
oooo Nicole congrats on the great night!!!

It must of been the night last night for good bubs. Ali went down at 8pm woke at 12 then woke at 4am was unsettled till 6am then woke at 7.15am. That's good considering we've been horrible between 12-6am every night for the last two weeks. So hopefully things are looking up.
The lactation consultant told me to feed every 2hrs to fill her up for the night but after doing that for two weeks and it didn't help I've decided to do demand feeding and she can do what ever she likes!! So we definately had a better night last night doing demand feeding!
She's also starting to have more awake periods. She loves watching me have a shower in her bouncer LOL!
We are getting some professional photo's done on Thursday (thanks to Dangerkitty) so I'm going to head out to the shops tomorrow and get the kids a nice outfit. Oh we went out to lunch too yesterday and she was perfect. Needed a feed just before our meal arrived and she slept right through my meal. Mind you I was scoffing it just in case she woke up LOL!!!
How's everyone's diet, nice and bland and boring!!! Mine is it's driving me up the wall. I miss my coke!
Anyway that's enough from me hope you are all having a nice day

perrywinkle, My diet is so depressing. I am celiac (no gluten diet) and usually eat heaps of fruit. I cant do that now, every time I have a couple of pieces (mango especially) bubs is so upset, wont settle. Now my diet is really limited . I am hoping he slowly gets used to it. I have been demand feeding. My bubba eats every 2 hours on the dot day and night, he is growing so quickly.
ooo sending you labour vibes nan! :babydust2:
Thanks so much hun! I appreciate it heaps. I'm SO bored at home now! I am usually really happy playing with Eden and running around after her, but just haven't had the motivation lately. Poor thing is probably wondering what's up with mummy. :( No BDing for us last night......Shane said he was tired. Not funny. Needless to say I went to bed very peeved at him!
perrywinkle - Hope you enjoy your photos. DK took some of our family back in April/May and they are fantastic......so happy with them!
You poor girls with your diets. I ate everything and managed to BF Eden successfully for 15 months. I only stopped because I was pregnant! Thankfully she handled everything well, even hot/spicy stuff. We'll have to see about this baby though........
Just the information I am needing:
What foods are no-no's when breastfeeding? I mean ones prone to give them wind etc? I understand differnt babies may react to different things, but are there some you should generally steer clear of?
I've been eating pretty much whatever is there but did pass on some coleslaw as I thought the cabbage would give her wind? I ate some garlic bread tonight before I thought about it . . . is baby gonna pay for that? And how long does it take to go through to your b'milk? Later tonight? Tomorrow?
She is such a good baby. Only crys when she has wind or needs a poo. her digestive system is settling down now - not pooing every half hour anymore and lots of wee's which is great.
Took her to the Doc for her check up today. DOc said she had quite a bit of journdice so wanted a blood test. But the middies have ALL said she is a good colour and the joundice is just in her face and pale at that. A middie is coming to check on us tomorrow so I'll ask again. I don't think she's that yellow at all. Just a touch and I'm feeding her in soft daylight to help it. So she had another heal prick for the blood test porr baby. At the hospy she got me to feed her during so she didn't cry, but at pathology they said crying helps the blood to flow out, so she had to bawl her eyes out for a few minutes. They assured me the weren't hurting her, just squeezing her foot. i know she was ok, but she was so upset, my little butterfly.
Then all the staff wanted a cuddle.
When you girls put bub into bed with you - how do you make it as safe as you can? Do you actually go to sleep with them on you? Xav settles so much easier this way too - I'm just so paranoid about it. I went to sleep with her on me the other day, put pillows each side of me outside the blankets and tucked her in with the sheet folded juat below her shoulders and down under me so she couldn't slide off easily. So neither of us moved for the hour or so, but when I woke, my hand was up near her face - which is wasn't before and I got worried if I might accidently whack her with my hands or something.
Last night I managed to stay awake for about half an hour like it until she was sound asleep and I tranfered her to her bed.
Thanks for any advice ladies . .she's stirring , gotta go.
Sorry no personals . . glad you all seem to be doing well.
Hello everyone, we're back.. and welcome to everyone who has joined us in the last few days..
We had a great weekend, Rylan travelled beautifully and we had to actually wake him up to feed whilst on the road.
He was a shocker for sleep tho, not sure if it was a mix of different surroundings and a weekend that consisted on takeway food for every meal. When we got home last night the first thing I did was cooked up a decent meal.
4Tiggers - Rylan tends to eat every 2hrs day and night as well, i've been told not to space him out yet due to being early.. I can cope with that lol.. so will go with the flow for awhile..
Hes just woken up so best go and tend to his hungry little tummy
Glad to hear everything went so well Tally!
Shana-I havent really changed my diet. I just make sure to not have a lot of caffeine, limit strawberries and chocolate. Thats all i've heard of that can cause wind issues but im sure there are more. So far we havent had any reactions to things i've eaten or drunk but he did have an unsettled night after I had a bottle of pepsi so now I only have a mouthful if we're out anywhere or with dinner then chug down so much water
Sometimes I have him in bed with us if he wakes in the middle of the night and DH is already asleep by the time I need to put him back into bed. I know you can buy snuggle beds to put between you if that is what youre looking for? Ive just had him inbetween myself and John. Havent had any problems as we're both on alert so if we move a millimetre we spring awake but that said it is only once every now and again that he is in bed with us we're not co-sleepers as such.
4tiggers-Robbie has been feeding every 2 hours for the last few days as well! It is exhausting isn't it! He is also getting so big so quickly! When he was born he was in 00000 clothes and now he is in 000 bonds suits! He is growing too fast :(
I cant believe he is over 2 weeks old already! where has time gone! no seriously I cant remember
perrywinkle-oh so jealous of the professional photos! I'd love to get some family shots taken but John doesnt want to until Robbie is old enough to smile in them-pretty sure we got pics taken when Abby was 4 months old so I think he is waiting til the same time
We had a pretty good night last night. Robbie fed so much yesterday that I was really irritable and exhausted by about 9:30 last night. I wasnt looking forward to him waking up for his next feed as I was so sore :o but he slept for 6 hours! I was amazed and so happy! It was brilliant! Now I give him permission to feed as much as he wants
Anyway best be off to take advantage of him being asleep!! Oh and I swear he is the farting champion of the world! I dont remember hearing Abby when she was this little but his are so loud and big! it is just hilarious!

Shana, on the diet while breastfeeding front, once again I agree with Kizmet!! I think it's just a matter of finding out what bub reacts to and cutting down on certain things you think might cause them discomfort. Already, I know that Big Macs and Coke (even a small glass) are no no's with Blake. I have eaten coleslaw which has cabbage in it and it hasn't caused a problem, whereas I couldn't eat it when I was breastfeeding Aliyah. I can drink coffee or tea (but am limiting to one cup in the morning, so the caffiene doesn't filter through and keep him awake all night). I think each bub is a bit different in this regard, and so it's a little trial and error.
Well, I was too cocky yesterday!! Had a shocking night with Blake last night and he didn't sleep properly til after his 3 am feed!! That'll teach me to open my mouth! He's been catching up today so hopefully it'll be better tonight. Poor Craig had his first day back at work today, so went off looking and probably feeling like a zombie! I ducked into our GP to have my blood test to recheck my iron levels, and weighed Blake. He's now back up to his birth weight of 4.2 kg ( he went down to 3.85 on the day he was discharged from hospital). He has been a bit of a guts with the breastmilk so I'm not surprised he's gaining it back quickly!
I think the new baby novelty is wearing off with Aliyah. She's been playing up terribly the last couple of days.....backchatting, arguing with us, and crying at the drop of a hat if she doesn't get her own way. I'm trying really hard to keep her included and spend time with just her etc, but it's bloody hard! Talk about juggling!
I'm the same with diet, just everything in moderation and trial and error to see what bubs reacts too.
I just had a weird exp, the child health nurse was here to weigh Rylan and all that jargon and I'm sure she was fishing to find chunks in my armour as if I wasnt coping , she was also surprised to find me breastfeeding and gave the impression she didnt agree with it... :detective: and after about the 50th time in telling my how gorgeous he was it started to wear thin... I now remember why I never went to see them with Zade.. rofl.. but apart from that hes doing brilliant and his head is still growing in proportion to the rest of him, which was a huge concern so hopefully that all stays perfect..
I'm off again will check in later...
xxx
kizmet - Sounds like you have a real little man there!! lol I think its hilarious when babies fart!!!! I reckon its because they're so oblivious. I fed Eden religiously during the day too......even when she wasn't that hungry I'd make her take a full feed every few hours. She slept through from six weeks old!!
tally - Yeah, the CYH nurses are told to fish around these days because a few years back the PND rate went way up and they're trying to get on top of it. Don't take it personally. I felt that way with Eden, too.
AB - That's my main fear with Eden.....that she'll regress behaviour-wise after the novelty wears off. I hope you sort things out with Aliyah.
Thanks mummies, I appreciate your advice.
I'm thinking of giving Xav one bottle of formula per night. She doesn't like to be off me at night, but sleeps for a few hours at a time during the day in the pram just fine. But at night, she wakes up almost hourly for a top up? Comfort feed? It's not often she'll stay asleep when I put her to bed after even a long feed.
So my confusion is that short feed or long feed doesn't seem to dictate how long she sleeps for. She can stir with in the hour or sleep for three hours after either. I'm a bit lost on it and unsure whether to wake her after one bb and encourage a long feed every time? Or let her sleep after the first one (short feed).
Sorry - I have so much to learn!
Atm, I'm just putting her on the bb every time she wakes, whether she's actualy hungry or just wants comfort. I can't tell the difference besides sometimes she 'plays' and doesn't really 'feed' much.
Kiz - I have a snuggle bed, but she wants to sleep on me/hear my heart beat (lie chest to chest) to really settle into a deep sleep at night. I love it of course, but not happy with the safety issue as I'm so tired I can easily fall asleep before I transfer her. Finally got her to a deep sleep that way this morning at about 7am and dh was up by then and came and got her and put her in the pram (her current bed) where she slept for about 3 hrs. I have the pram next to the bed and can reach out and touch her but that's not enough for her at night it seems.
ok going to catch some zzzz.
thanks for listening.

Hey Shana!
How long is she feeding for on average? Average feeding time for a newborn (enough to get a full feed) is anywhere from 30-45 mins. I would encourage a full feed every feed for a few reasons.
1.) You know she is getting the hindmilk.
2.) She is less likely to want a feed every hour at night. (or in the day!)
3.) Her body will get into its own routine quicker & she is not likely to 'play' or 'snack' feed randomly.
We used to keep Eden awake so she took a full feed and found she very quickly dropped into a 2.5-3 hourly feeding regime on her own. Of couse, sometimes she'd be hungry earlier or later than that. We found that it continued into the night as well, as she was so well fed during the day.
The other thing we'd do was break up her day into chunks of feed--wake--sleep, in that order. That way she didn't depend on a boobie to get to sleep!!
Hope this helps.

Oh you poor thing. I have just done a big shop of F & V and didn't realise fruit can upset them. Might have to look into that. I bought heaps of stone fruit too my favourite. Oh it's so frustrating!!!

Even though he was a good decent size do you still have to feed him every 2hrs???
Well we had a really bad night last night. She went down hardly having any boobie milk so I thought I would top her up around 9.30pm. Well we had some more milk then but was unsettled till 1am. I ended up bringing her into bed with me and she went to sleep on my chest but was up again at 2.30am, 3.30am 5am then 6.45am. It's driving me nuts because Mitchy wasn't like this he went straight down after a feed. She's great during the day though so can't complain too much.
Hope all is well with your bubs be back soon.

Shana, I have found with Blake that if I change the nappy after the first breast, he's then wide awake for a good feed of the other side. That way he gets a nice full tummy and sleeps longer. It's worth trying....it worked with Aliyah when she was a baby too.
Thanks girls,
Yes I do change her nappy after one boob to wake her up for the other side. But sometimes she curls up and goes to sleep without wanting the second boob after the nappy. Or if she has it, and then a comfort suck - she's asleep straight after with no awake time. It's at night she is having her awake time it seems. And has short 1hr sleeps regardless of how big a feed she had last.
I'm not really complaining - she is really good, doesn't cry much at all (tho I put her on boob a lot) I'm just getting pretty tired even tho I sleep in the day when she does. And Dh is back to work tomorrow . . man I'm gonna miss his help.
I guess i'm a bit worried I might be creating high maintainence habits by putting her on boob so much for comfort.
I'd love to get some prof photo's of Xav too -while she's so little. I'm trying to arrange it thru a friend so it doesn't cost me the earth.
Morning ladies!
How did you all go last night? We had a really disruptive one and im absolutely exhausted today because of it! Started off well and Robbie went to sleep at about 9:30-10ish then was up at 3:42 then 5:45 then 6:30. He only woke up at 5:45 because of John's alarm going off on his bedside table right above where Robbie was sleeping so he got startled and woke up. Then he woke up at 6:30 absolutely saturated! Am now reserving judgement on these woolies nappies for newborn boys:rolleyes:
Since yesterday Robbie has thrown up at least twice after every feed! If it was just when he burped I wouldnt be concerned but it is just coming up iykwim. He felt a little warm yesterday morning when I got him up but then was fine so I think it was due to him wearing a fleecy jumpsuit and being in bed with me under my doona. He was coughing a little yesterday too. Then this morning he has thrown up 3 times already and has lots and lots of wind. Am now trying to figure out what I ate to see if it was me causing him to be unsettled. It is either that or we are all coming down with something. Abby slept for an hour longer than normal this morning and was sneezing when I went in to get her up and she feels a little warm. Yesterday I was just super exhausted and had a croaky voice for the most part but I just put that down to the lack of sleep catching up with me but maybe we're all getting something :gloomy:
Does anyone know how long it takes for food to go through into our breastmilk? Like if I ate a punnet of strawberries for breakfast when would he be experiencing them? Just trying to narrow down what I ate
Was going to move the single bed from the toy room into Robbie's room and him and I sleep in there as waking John in the night to change his nappy while I get 10 mins shut eye between feeds takes me a good half hour! He is getting more and more cranky and tired with going to work and then coming home and having to be really energetic to play with Abby .
He wants to sleep on the lounge while I co-sleep with Robbie in our bed. It is a good idea in one sense as it makes things easier for me with middle of the night feeds and such but we are already quite distant (on my behalf not his) because I am just so buggered and sore everywhere that I dont want to be hugged, I dont want to kiss I dont feel like doing anything. I get so annoyed with him wanting to hug me because by the time the kids go to bed I am just so grateful to have my body to myself and not have anyone clinging to it but he just doesnt get that.
Whoa turned into a mini whinge :o:laughing:
Really hope all is well with everyone!

Hi girls!
Well, I have finally written Blake's birth story if anyone wants to take a look - http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?p=2142602&posted=1#post2142602
It was pretty difficult to relive it all and I think I left some stuff out, but most of it's there. It was actually quite therapeutic to get it all out, and I'm feeling better for it.
We had Blake's first community nurse check yesterday. He's doing beautifully, and has gained back the weight he lost in hospital (not surprised from the amount he drinks!!).
The last 2 nights Blake has woken up once for a feed at about 1:30ish, and then sleeps til about 6am!! Glorious!! I hope he keeps this up! He seems to be starting to distinguish between day and night, as he's having much more awake time during the day now. This is great, as Craig, Aliyah and I have been having fun playing with him. It was so cute yesterday, I sat him on a pillow on Aliyah's lap, and she sat there singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to him. I managed to get it on video. It brought a happy tear to my eye!Valentine
Anyway, hope you are all doing well. Just popping over to the other thread to see if there's anymore bubs!
Does anyone know how long it takes for food to go through into our breastmilk? Like if I ate a punnet of strawberries for breakfast when would he be experiencing them? Just trying to narrow down what I ate
I was wondering that myself.. It wasnt till after I'd cooked dinner last night and ate it that I thought it was something I probably shouldnt have eaten.. and we had the night from hell too... I think all up I got an hours sleep. :dizzy: and hes been puking something cronic too..
I was never overly impressed with the woolies nappies and would only use them during the day on an older bub..
Perrywinkle, I dont have to feed him every 2hrs but demand feed, even tho he was a good size he was really scrawny so we have to fatten him up a bit. Which hes doing a great job at..
I tried to start the xmas shopping today and nearly passed out in the shopping centre, me thinks I'm still pretty aneamic..
Nicole-just read your birth story :hugs:
That is so great to hear Blake has regained his birth weight!:smiliedance:
Tally-I'm anaemic too but seems that no matter how much red meat, iron tabs i take I still get quite dizzy some times.
We had to venture out today and I am currently about to crash out while the kids have FINALLY gone to sleep. It really was a horrible day. Our car is in getting a service and we ran out of nappy wipes  Luckily we live near a main street of shops with a chemist or if i wanted a big walk I could duck down to woolies but chose not to go for that option. So it all starts to go awry at home. Abby doesnt want to sit in the stroller she wants her toddler skateboard instead but robbie doesnt want the stroller either he wants to be in the wrap. tantrums follow from both of them and Robbie ends up going to sleep in the stroller and Abby on the toddler board. So awkwardly and in the extreme heat we get down to the chemist get the wipes, pick up some lunch from down there and start to head home. I was already stressed although they were both being really really good. I decide to walk a different way home as it has more crossings and is safer for me to go that way with the two kids. We start to cross the road and Abby slips off the side of the toddler board and lands on the road and bangs her head so very hard. :( She is bawling her eyes out which wakes up Robbie who starts bawling . After calming them both down Abby wants to be carried home, so here is me awkwardly trying to push the stroller with toddler board and shopping bags whilst holding abby who is still upset. She has a big egg on the back of her head and her head is all grazed.
I am absolutely exhausted. I think we're all coming down with something and they have both been sooooo unsettled today both before and after our trip out.
So I have now decided I am not going out anywhere on my own without the car until I am bought a twin stroller or pram. We bought the toddler board so as to not have to buy another pram but after abby fell off and hurt herself so easily today im just not comfortable. She was holding on like she was supposed to but the jolt of going onto the crossing made her fall off.
Sorry for the depressing post. I'm off to calm my shaking nerves with a glass of cordial. Each sip I will be pretending it is something a little more alcoholic!
Oh Kiz, what a day you've had.
I've actually ditched using nappy wipes for her bottom now. Xav was pooing so much I thought if the poo doesn't burn her little bottom, the contant use of soapy wipes might do the damage . So I'm just using cotton wool balls and water.
My morning was a bit rough. Xav just would not drop off to sleep. She was so tired, yawning her head off, crying from tired, but couldn't reach that deep sleep and kept waking when I put her down. I think she must have had some sort of random pains. She would be fine one second, very placid, then suddenly scream out. Then fine again. She's sleep for maybe half an hour then up again, same thing. I don't know what the problem was. She did do a few burps - but I kept putting her on the bb to settle her so I thought they were just from that.
Anyway, one minute she's crying - I put her on my shoulder and a second later she's fast asleep and slept for 3 hrs then.
I managed to grab some sleep then too thankgoodness. DH went back to work today . . I wish he was home.
shana sending you some :hugs::hugs: of support!

What a shame about the nappies kiz..
My boxes worked great, not a single leak or poo-splosion.. Maybe they work better on girls..
Poor abs :hugs:.. J stacked it today also and has a lovely egg and bruise on his forehead..
I got a phil and teds and i love it.. And it will be great when #3 comes along so doesnt matter if J decides to walk all the time..
Hope you feel better soon tally.. lack of sleep and fainting spells are awful.. :hugs:
Hope tonight you have a better sleep..
Great little sleeper you have there nicole.. hope it stays that way for you..
Prob just bad wind pain shana.. If it happens again think back to what you ate, there may be a connection..
Oops back to finish later bubs awake..

Perrywinkle, I dont have to feed him every 2hrs but demand feed, even tho he was a good size he was really scrawny so we have to fatten him up a bit. Which hes doing a great job at..
Oh I see.
Well we had an OK day today. We had Dangerkitty come over and do some shots of the kids. And boy was she great. Mitchy was so comfortable with her he did a fantastic job. Did everything she asked. And ali was great too. Gave her a feed in between photo's and she was back into it LOL!!!
Then we went over to my friends house for a swim well not Ali and me but DS and DH did. I'm hoping to swim soon because I haven't had any blood loss for 5 days now so :fingerscrossed: it's over for me!!!
So she didn't sleep well today so I'm hoping for a good night. Last night she went down at 8pm woke at 12 woke at 3.30am awake till 5am and then up again at 6am. So wasn't too bad.
I have 3 punnets of strawberries to eat in the fridge but from what everyone has been saying I'm too scared to eat them. I so love strawberries!!!!
Anyway I hope al have a good night and will pop back in the morning to report LOL!!!

Hi Everyone
Haven't had a chance to read back but just thought I'd pop in and say hi to let you know that I'm back online again.
The move went well, although there is still heaps of unpacking to do, and we are all settled into our new home.
Sophie is doing really well but could sleep a little better. She needs to be wrapped up and cuddled to sleep after each feed and, while she goes to sleep pretty well, often wakes up after only a short time after transferring her to the bassinet. DS was a terrible sleeper too (actually a lot worse than Sophie) so I was hoping for an easier one this time round. So if any of you have one of those babies that sleeps anywhere, anytime, I'm incredibly jealous!!! Breastfeeding is still going really well for us though so I guess I can't expect it all to be easy...
DH goes back to work on Monday. I'm really nervous about how I'm going to go with getting DS to and from school - fitting Sophie's feeds around it, plus Sophie cries in the car. Also, she has been unsettled the last few nights around the time when I am getting dinner ready so I'm not sure how I'll go with that as DH doesn't get home from work until after 7pm. I have to say, I'm amazed at all of you with toddlers to look after as well - it's hard enough with DS and he can pretty much take care of himself!!!
Anyway, better go - DS wants the computer.
Hope all the November babies are behaving for them Mummies. Take care, girls.

thanks for the warm welcome peoples:)
gee it's hard to find time to post isn't it? (you dont need to answer that)
A bit about me
I'm 36, live in Tas, had Odette Vivienne on 23/11 - first child via c-sec (unplanned).
So far so good, I totally adore her and never knew I would love her so much. Seems to be settling in pretty well so far, DF has 6 weeks off work so that makes it soo much easier.
um, what else? well I guess we'll get to know each other better... I am a first timer so yeah talking with you guys will help me in some ways and I hope I can be of asistance to others.:D
kitty - i'm most interested to read of your settling approaches - i wil be back later to discuss as mine has just started to stir.
bye for now!:)
Welcome Snake eater. I'm a first timer too and had a c-sec, but mine was elective. How are you recovering? I'm doing pretty well. Just about doing everything around the house except lifting heavy things.
Got a question for you breast feeding mummies . . . how much expressed b'milk does baby need per feed? I've expressed a couple times and get about 3oz out of each boob. Is 3oz enough for one feed? She drinks that and seems satified with it until she needs to go to sleep, then she'll want back on the boob for a top up for 5 mins and it will put her to sleep.
That she is actually drinking in that 5 min (sometimes) does that mean that the 3oz wasn't enough?
Xav was feeding 10 mins each side roughly and I thought maybe she was only getting fore milk but no hind milk, so I've been expressing some feeds to see if it makes a difference to her sleep and wind, to get all the milk from one boob and to see how much she was getting. (as well as getting her onto a bottle)
Do any of you express? How long do you do it for?

Hi to all Finally found the thread and ahve read a few pages finding it hard to catch up though.
Ash is a really good baby even better than my last two so I am so thankful, he is just lovely,
Hi snake eater , welcome
We are feeding every 4-5hrs and go about 6 hrs at night which is great for me.
Ash is feeding 40 minutes I burp him half way through and change his nappy to wake him up. If he is still very much wide awake at the end I might give him a 5 min top up. I wrap in a sheet as his hands wake him up when he is trying to fall off to sleep.
More or less he is waking feeding sleeping straight away and then I can do what I have to do, he sounds like a baby lamb when he cries and the first few nights I slept through cause he cries so softly.
My other two monkeys are runnign a much but to be expected wish I had an extra hand cause my 3 yr old is being too defiant for my liking.
Take care all,

Got a question for you breast feeding mummies . . . how much expressed b'milk does baby need per feed?
Shana, I'm wondering that too. Sophie has just started only feeding for about 5 minutes on my right boob so it's never empty. At 4.30am this morning I expressed 110ml out of it in 5 minutes!! I'm thinking now that I'm going to have to start expressing from it after each feed as it's quite uncomfortable. So I'm wondering if that 110ml would be enough for one feed?? I'm pretty sure when DS was this age, his formula bottles were only about 60 or 90ml per feed but I have no idea about breastmilk. She feeds for up to 20 minutes on the other side but I'm guessing the milk isn't coming out as quickly on that side?? I haven't tried giving her a bottle of expressed milk yet but I figure if I'm going to be building up a stash I will give it a go soon...

:wave:Hi and welcome snake eater
What would you like to know? I feel like I'm very much flying by the seat of my pants on the sleeping thing at the moment. When DS was a baby, older than Sophie is now but not by much, I used a version of controlled crying on the advice of a child health nurse to get him into a good sleeping pattern. While it worked really well for him, it's not something I'm comfortable with anymore (and obviously it's not recommended for very young babies now anyway). So, with Sophie at the moment my approach is whatever works ;).

yeah pretty much the same here.
it's now been 10 days since the c-sec and I feel pretty good. Got pain relief on hand if I need it which helps. The ob reckons it is at its strongest at about 6 weeks after the c-sec occurred - really realy keen to get back into exercise here. sick of not feeling strong, want to get back on the horse..
kitty - i'm just interested in how other people approach putting thier baby down to sleep - my approach is
sometimes put her down when she's fully fed, burped and chnaged and hope for the best (works 50% of the time)
sometimes let her get into a deeper sleep on one of us and put her down (works 30% of the time)
some times she only has really short sleep and other times she needs to get up due to wind or something else.
all in all she's pretty good at sleeping, we just started a chart today to find out the patterns (if any) she has as well as the feeding times etc.
i'd love melbryan's routine!!!

I did ask the midwife in hospital how much milk they actually get and she said it depends on mum and bub as to how much they need. But she said average 40mls each boob is the average feed so 80mls all together. But it could be different with different bubs wanting more or less per feed. I say express as much as you can!!!
And welcome Snake Eater . Look forward to getting to know you. And yes it's hard to find time to write these days.
Well we had an average night better than others we've had. She went down at 7.30pm up at 10pm then 12 then 2am then 4am then 6.45am and she went back to bed all those times rather than being unsettled for a couple of hrs and being wide awake. Every time I walked out of her room I was crossing my fingers hoping ashe wouldn't wake up and she stayed asleep. YAY!!!!!
We had Santa photo's today so now I just have to find some time to write in them and send them to all the relo's interstate. Oh the joy's of Xmas.
Take care all XX

...........wish I had an extra hand cause my 3 yr old is being too defiant for my liking.
Melbryan, I totally relate to that at the moment! Aliyah is being an absolute pain in the neck lately. She's arguing and backchatting a lot, and is back to chucking tantrums (which is something she hasn't done for quite a few months). I know she's attention seeking because of the baby, but it makes things very hard. She's also not sleeping well at night lately so I think she's getting overtired during the day. She still has her afternoon nap, thank goodness, so this does help a bit.
Blake's still being a pretty good little boy. Still being a guts with the breastmilk, although he feeds better of late evening and during the night than in the day......he's very alert and there are quite a lot of distractions in the daytime for him! My nipples are getting pretty sore as he keeps pulling on them during a feed and comes on and off quite frequently. Once the letdown happens he's right, but in the few mins it takes for that to happen it feels like he's going to pull my boob off! Ouch!! No bleeding or cracks on the nipple at the moment, but I'm using the Lansinoh ointment all the time which helps the soreness.
Snake Eater - as far as settling goes, I think most of it depends on the baby themselves. I have been pretty much going with the flow since Blake's been home, and he just settles himself mostly. There are times when he has wind or is a little overtired where he gets grumpy and needs a cuddle to get to sleep, but I try not to do that all the time as I certainly don't want him to expect that as the norm! He definitely has a good sleep with a full tummy, and usually settles really well if I keep him wrapped.
A trick I learned when I had my first, and which I'm doing with Blake, is to keep him out in the living area in a rocker during the day, so he's getting used to day time sounds and learns to sleep through it all. He doesn't have long sleeps during the day, but has enough to keep him happy. Then at night around 6 - 7 pm, I breastfeed him one side out in the living room, bath him and put him in his PJs, then feed him the other side in his room in the dim light, then put him in his cot. He settles to sleep really well doing this, and has been sleeping well through the night. It worked so well with Aliyah, that she was sleeping through by 10 weeks, so hopefully the same will happen with Blake!

i'd love melbryan's routine!!!
Same!!
For about the first week and a half, Sophie would go back to sleep on the boob and I would have to wake her after four hours for the next feed. She would generally have one feed where she wouldn't settle for a couple of hours and would need to be cuddled to sleep.
Now, she almost never goes to sleep on a feed and is awake and happy for a little while after each one. When she starts getting tired, I wrap her and then we either sit down and I cuddle her and pat her bottom or rock her until she falls asleep or else it's a matter of walking around the house with her in our arms until she falls asleep. Sometimes after I put her down, she will sleep for a few hours (like this morning) otherwise it will just be a catnap and then the whole settling process starts all over again.
I've tried just putting her down awake but I think she only went to sleep on her own once. Ideally, I'd like to get her to start settling in the cot/bassinette, with or without me patting her or something, but at only 3 weeks old I'm happy to cuddle her to sleep for the moment.
Perrywinkle, thanks for that info about how much to express. Now I just need to work up to actually trying Sophie with a bottle. I'm a bit nervous about doing it too soon and interfering with breastfeeding, especially at the moment with her being a bit fussy at the boob.

hmm thx for all the insight and experience, sounds familiar here and i definitely agree with the call that it does depend on the baby.
Odette is quite mellow I think but that doesnt mean she isnt up every couple of hours which is hard enough during the night.
I'm doing pretty much what everyone else is -although the bouncinette thing in the day could be very wise indeed.
thanks again.:)

My 3 yr old knows I can't get up when I am feeding so is really playing on me. One trick I have found is make them some snacks and drink before I feed and that keeps them quiet for a while. Ash doesn't seem to care if I latch him off the breast but 40 minutes takes quite a while if I keep putting him on and off. WHen the sucking starts slowing down then I know he is getting sleepy and full of wind he is a really good burper but gets the hiccups if it doesn't come out properly.
Does anyone's bubba get a heat rash I had to go to a non flannelette sheet because around his neck like little pimples. His skin is peeling too so will have to oil him. No hormone rash yet.
My left nipple is cracked and am favouring the right one if it keeps happening I will be feeding off just the right. Most people say it's alright to do this. Has anyone else done that here???
Hi ladies
Am completely exhausted! Had a big day today visiting John's parents and then my mother. Only got home a little while ago and am buggered! The kids are too which is hard. Abby is good and knows she is tired although still doesnt want to go to bed but Robbie is quite fussy on and off and on and off the boob. Wouldnt be so bad but when he rips off he clenches down and tries to take it with him :hissy:
Am now thinking something is going quite wrong here with our breastfeeding. Robbie feeds for 40 mins then falls asleep or starts fussing on and off so then we burp him, change his nappy then I put him on the same boob for about 20 mins then burp him then put him on the other boob for about 20 mins but until he falls asleep. So all in all I feed him for over an hour every time! Is this normal? you all seem to be going fine with one feed for 40 mins ish? wondering if i need to boost my supply or something? although it has only just settled down in the last week and stopped leaking everywhere! If I let Robbie stay asleep after the first feed he only sleeps for an hour then is awake to feed again! The only way I can get a good 2-3-4 hours sleep from him is if I feed him at least 3 times!
It is totally exhausting me but im happy to do it to prolong the time between feeds and also I dont like to let him cry at all. Feeling a bit unsure about how im going.
Measured his length today and he is 58 cms  He was last measured at 51cm a week or so ago at the health centre! Im sure it is more to do with him stretching out now and us measuring him with a straight leg whereas the health nurse didnt straighten his legs out to measure him
Ok best be off we're watching stranger than fiction :smiliedance:
Be back later guys:wave:
Hey girls......WE'RE HOME!!! :smiliedance:
Thanks for all your kind thoughts, words, labour vibes & hugs. They really mean a lot. I so enjoyed being pregnant with you guys and can't wait to continue the baby journey with you all. I'll fill in the baby stats thread and birth story ASAP. Check here if you want to see some recent family pics. Shane took the photos......he's so clever! Some of them make me cry!! (happy cry of course) http://shanenan.freehostia.com/photos Page 4 has some cute ones of just Caleb.
He sleeps alot during the day but hardly at all last night, any tips???
Moops, I quoted this from the other thread, so I hope you find it!! My tip to you would be to get as much food into him during the as you can. Feed even when he isn't hungry, so that he needs less at night. My OB suggested this with Eden, so we did it (and are doing it again) and it worked (is working) a treat. Hope it helps. We feed around every three hours for 40ish mins. Aim to get a full feed in each time, rather than a snack one, too. Good luck sweets! :hugs:
Shana - How are you doing now after your hellish morning?? Is Xav better for you?
I was wondering if it was ok to join your group as I was a due in december mum that had baby in november!!!
Hey snake eater! Remember me? I used to post in the December thread as my original EDD was Dec 3rd. I moved over to here early on in my pregnancy. These girls are gorgeous. Welcome to you!
Will be back to write more later ladies, suspicions confirmed we are now a house full of sickies
Oh hun. Thats not good. Lots of :hugs: for you and the kids. Get well soon.
The move went well, although there is still heaps of unpacking to do, and we are all settled into our new home.
Woohoo! Congrats again! I think you're a champ, having a baby and moving house so close together.....legend!!
Well, Caleb is doing well. Only lost around 120g when we left hospital. Getting up on average twice per night. We had one night where he wouldn't settle for 5 hours. I finally got to sleep at 2am and he slept for the next 5, thank God!! Feeding well and pooping like an absolute machine!!
Before I sign off, I have to ask......how good is it to not go to the loo every half an hour? Oh, and how good does a nice glass of red taste now??? I had my first glass in around 8 months tonight!
Chat soon ladies......oh.....and those of you who have braved the shops already.....I salute you!! lol

Hi everyone!! Im finally here as well :)
Cant catch up on all posts right now as Im sure you all understand, but will in time I promise.
My baby girl is finally here. Peyton Kathryn weighed in at a hefty 4.1kgs! Ill give a little run down on her then Im off to bed and will be back tomoz hopefully to catch up.
She is such an angel and I am so very much in love. The nine months of making her was so very worth every moment. Im am savouring each and every day as I know how quickly they grow now.
I tried breastfeeding and she really hurt me so I gave up. Then I tried again last night and it just wasnt happening so Ill just not worry about that and keep her bottle fed. She is a great eater though. She'll have anywhere from 60-120mls. The midwife explained that is fine as she's a big bub and needs more food then the average newborn.
She is in cloth nappies just terry flats and Im loving them. They make her look so filled out if you know what I mean compared to sposies. She wears a sposie at night and more then likely when we go out.
She has slept in my bed the past 2 nights as she unsettles from about 9-10.30 (well the past 2 nights anyway). So last night we slept from 10.30pm-5.45am http://www.mumsmeeting.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
She woke for a feed and change and back to sleep till 10am in daddy's arms in bed http://www.mumsmeeting.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif So so far Im not sleep deprived at all. She is very very alert and has great neck control. She was weighed today and has only lost 100grams since birth which is normal. She loves her cuddles and settles so well in her daddy's arms.
Thats about all for now she is 5 days old tommorrow morning!! 5 days already http://www.mumsmeeting.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Oh and I think she looks like her dad as well http://www.mumsmeeting.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi mel - No heat rash here, but I was going to suggest sticking with a lightweight cotton as it is easier on the skin and is also breathable. You can always add blankets over the top etc etc
Also, I haven't personally tackled one boob, but maybe try using the right for most of the feed and the left for the last bit iykwim? That way you'll still have a small supply that you might be able to boost after it heals. I have heard that you can do one boob, though. My friend had twins and pretty much gave them one each, that she swapped over each feed so they both got both.....hope that made sense!
Hello girls,
Feels like I'm going around in circles atm. Xav was doing great at 3hr feeds but today it's been hourly. She wakes up, I put her on the bb and she's on/off/on/off, cry, cry. Like she wants it but doesn't. I thought maybe I have a slow letdown, but she just never seemed happy on it today. I'm think I'm not giving her enough? Perhpas she's doing it to boost my supply?
So then she gets overtired without those big blocks of sleep and is so unsettled, it takes ages to get her to nod off again. She has these random screams too. Makes me think she has wind pain in her bowels or something.
So it's been a tough day. I'm so tired. I've been sleeping every time she goes down, but waking every hour is taking it's toll on me.
My right nipple is so sore too. She keeps pinching it - youch!
God, I could go a nice glass of red right about now too Nan . . .
Mummymer - I'm going to use terry flats too. Just using sposies for the time being - dont' have the inclanation to do that much washing just now. (not to mention I shouldn't be lifting heavy washing baskets)

Hi ladies
Am now thinking something is going quite wrong here with our breastfeeding. Robbie feeds for 40 mins then falls asleep or starts fussing on and off so then we burp him, change his nappy then I put him on the same boob for about 20 mins then burp him then put him on the other boob for about 20 mins but until he falls asleep. So all in all I feed him for over an hour every time! Is this normal? you all seem to be going fine with one feed for 40 mins ish? wondering if i need to boost my supply or something? :
Kate, Ash sometimes not always falls asleep at the end of a 40 min feed I burp him then he seems more alert then I put him down fully wrapped and he drifts off. I think all bubs just take what they need from the breast. I don't let mine cry either but after they have fed then if he is breaking out of his wrap I let him have the dummy he is not keen on it but I caught him sucking his thumb and I have a thing about thumb suckers cause I was until I was 11 (gasp) and had to have braces.
I can't believe Ashton is still asleep he fed from 1-2am and it's now 9am. Will go and check on him.:baby:
Thanks Nan I will do that except found that most wraps are not big enough for my little whopper. Maybe I'll have to make my own.
hi ladies,
Not having a great day here. Trying to not let it get me down. Ive been on and off the loo all morning, Robbie has got whatever Ive got and so does John. Must have been something we ate yesterday. It is horrible. Robbie is so unsettled and irritable it just isnt funny. Nothing will settle him not feeding, changing, burping, holding him, wrapping him, giving him the dummy, not giving him the dummy...nothing! It is driving me mental! I feel horrible because I know he isnt feeling well but it is so hard to be patient when im not feeling well either. He's been on and off the boob since 5:30 this morning and im exhausted.
Thank heavens Abby is being a good girl today or else I think I would not be able to resist curling up and crying. Everything is really getting me today. Think all the lack of sleep is catching up with me. My house is a mess as I havent been able to clean up everything as I go and had no time on the weekend to do it.
My grandma is still in hospital with no date for release yet, my mum has to go over to the hospital every day. I am feeling so guilty and selfish because my mother came over every afternoon to help me out when I had Abby. She would either entertain her while I had a shower/got tea ready/ got some cleaning up done or she would help me out with the washing or something like that. I just am feeling a bit like I could really use some help now but I either get a really angry response from her about people wanting her to do everything or I get told that I chose to have another child I will get used to it or the ever so patronising "I was fine with having two kids on my own" which just makes me feel worse.
The kids are great it is everything else that i'm not doing well at all with. I have about 6 loads of washing that needs to be done, ive had a load on the line now for 3 days that I need to bring in, our house is just so messy. I am exhausted. It seems like the things I want to do/get done get pushed aside to things other people want to do. Why are they more important than how I am feeling? I just get absolutely no time to do anything! I am feeding Robbie for an hour and a half when you include the mid feed nappy changes and burps then after he finally settles I only get an hour break before he wants to be fed again! I am typing this while he is feeding just so I can feel some kind of connection to someone right now.
Sorry about the vent guys, just feeling really horrid today.

Oh Kate:hugs: I really feel for you and if it makes you feel anybetter I had a melt down last week and didn't alk to DH for 3 days. My house is a pig sty too and I just cried it made me feel so much better. I too won't ask for help either so something had to give. Dh doesn't want people doing things as he should be doing it, I think it hurts his pride. I just have to do the bare minimum to get by. I make sure the boys are looked after but everything else can just wait.
I did get 2 hrs break last Fri as I went to dinner with a girlfriend felt normal for a few hours came back and then Dh went out with his mates. I make sure to set a little time for myself aside at nights to let my boobs air and read a bit it's amazing how it relaxes me. I am really blessed with a great baby this time round so naturally I am thankful, My Ds1 was an absolute pain so I deserve a good one I think.
It is hard when you are not feeling well as I think your patience tends to wear thin. Have you got some other friends who can help out?? Or even mind Abby while you get some rest with Robbie?
I had a friend I worked with comeover and do my dishes sweep my floor and cook us dinner and brought lunch as well and that was so lovely ( Dh wasn't home) I was so grateful to her. ALot of peoplehave offered help but I am a bit embarassed at my house at the moment and made the comment to Dh 'you wash the dishes once and you think you've cleaned the whole house' :hair:of course that didn't go down to well as you can imagine.

I found The thread!!!!!!
Kismet - Big hugs and hoping sickness is on its way Out! Saw todays post and sending so many :hugs:'s.. Lots on your plate. Im not surprised we get overwhelmed.. Thinking of you and Robbie and Abby (and your poor boobs! Owch..)
Nan - Thanks so much for reposting the hints to help with more sleep at night. - roar def a daysleeper too. think I may be letting her snack feed a little too much.. - Also had a glass of ale :) Bliss!
Mummymer - BF not easy thats for sure. I was lucky with Roar who has a great latch. I reckon baby and mum happy is all that matters. Does she bottle feed well? - Am also loving the cloth! (sept one night were I got 6 poo's in 1 hr!!! Her photo's are so cute!!! Rora also looks like daddy Me thinks :)
Shana - Oh Hon, Its not easy is it :hugs: The random Screams are scary. Does Xav ever have a long feed? Does she settle better after? Thinking of you and Xav, hope all is going better today
All going O.K for us. Roar had some nasty nappy rash at the front that was keeping her fussy but nappy off time and flannel wipes have helped (can I use cream on a newborn?)
She is feeding for about 20 mins on each boob and then being awake for hour or so then 10 mins on a breast and she is asleep.. My nipples are great now she latches well  But I think she uses me as a dummy sometimes.. she will comfort suck to sleep.. I really dont know If I should let her do it? Or stick with Breasts are for feeding (true feeding) only?? Anyone help out there?
Also she got her first scrape.. a long scratch down her foot (I think from her shanky toenails.. how do I cut them????)
Hi everyone.
Kiz, sorry you are sick, I'd be the sobbing ball in the corner if that was me right now . .
Poor little Xav has had some terrible wind. She does the biggest burps which hurt coming up and must have bowel wind causing her so much pain that she is unsettled for hours until it moves down and out. It must be coming from my breast milk. I did give her a bottle of formula for two nights, so stopped that thinking it was causing the wind maybe, but she still has it after two nights off formula, so must be from me.
I feel so terrible for causing her pain like that. It makes me really hate breastfeeding because I can't control that sort of thing. I'm afraid to eat anything now. I wasn't eating anything unusual and don't really know how to make my diet more bland. And can't pinpoint any certain foods b/c it happens every day.
For those of you formula feeding - how do you prevent bubs from getting constipated?

Can totally relate to that hon :hugs: We have found the vibrating rocker helps a bit and keeps her settled for 5 mins or so inbetween the screams.. the lower gas seems to take forever to move down.. Never thought about it possibly relating to my breast milk.. def something for me to think about.

Just a quick one from me..
All is well here, just very busy cos DP has started his own business so im sorting all the details and things out.. (totally unplanned but the work was there and it all fell into place..)
OK to try to help answer a few of the questions..
how do you prevent bubs from getting constipated?
Its just a case of finding a formula that suits your baby.. If one blocks them up then you may need to consider trying a different brand..
Once they are a bit older you can give them some boiled water which helps, or when they can have solids you can give them some prune juice diluted with a bit of water or give them some stewed prunes/pears..
(can I use cream on a newborn?)
Yes you can, but dont use it with your MCN.. It can damage them.. Make sure you either use a liner/a terry flat or a sposie while your using cream.. (they may be a certain cream that you can use with mcn but in general its a nono..
(I think from her shanky toenails.. how do I cut them????)
I just use clippers and i do it when she is asleep so she stays still.. But some people use baby nail scissors or baby nail clippers.. Or even just bite them off with there teeth till bubs is bigger..
I find it just as easy to use normal nail clippers while she is snoozing..
To those with day sleepers, they will sort themselves out.. Kaitlyn was a day sleeper but she has changed that now.. To help it remember to keep lights dimmed during night feeds and limit communication with them.. And during the day chat and play away and they will soon figure it out.. Will just take a few weeks though..
Other things to consider and maybe try..
If they have a dummy only give it to them when you want them to sleep..
With Kaitlyn i dont wrap her for her day sleeps (and she still sleeps fine) but i wrap her at night.. It signals a difference and she seems to understand i mean business and its nigh nighs time at night..
After day feeds have some play/awake/talking time before its time to sleep, but straight to bed at night time..
They will sort it out sooner or later..
Hope that helps at least one of you.. :hugs:
Might not work for everyone but its just some suggestions..
Gotta go feed my little one..
Big hugs to Kate :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: If i were near you id be over in a heartbeat..
Em - do you use 'wipes' on Rora? I was, but now a using cotton wool balls dipped in water. Xav was doing so many poos I was constantly wiping her with them and was worried they might give her a rash or worse. Horror story alert . . my sister's friend used wipes (don't know the brand) and her little girl's labia (or something) actually stuck together b/c it made the skin raw etc. Don't know precise details - but it scared me off using them more than occationally, especially on girls.
Re Dummy's - I am trying to get Xav to take one for the simple reason -as you said, I'm not keen on her using me as the dummy, plus I keep thinking if she drinks/comfort sucks and then goes straight to sleep with no burp - it's making the wind problem worse.
I have read to encourage them to take the dummy to comfort suck, but as they are falling asleep they will spit it out - DON"T put it back in. Let them drop off without it in their mouth. That way you aren't teaching them they must have it to fall asleep - or they will look for it when they stir and you've created a 'prop' you have to keep putting back in.
Gonna go crash for a bit . .Xav is asleep - for now.
Hi guys!
Well it's my first post in the mummies section!!! :smiliedance:
It's 4am here and I'm up with my little one because he's being a little nightmare!! Last night he slept from 10-1am then 1.30-5am then 6-9.30am so I was really happy, but tonight he is just so whingy and nothing will settle him.
We are having a few issues..
1. He WILL NOT sleep in his cot at all, day or night so he has been sleeping with me in bed. It's the only way for us getting any sleep, how bad is this exactly???
2. At night he has really eratic breathing patterns that freak me out so I'm constantly listening to him all night
3. He was such a good feeder but the last couple of days he sucks for only 15 or so minutes if that then wants nothing else to do with it....any ideas why the change?
God i'm sooo tired I just want a few hours sleep!! DH is back at work so I'm on baby patrol.
Glad to hear some of us are in the same boat!!

He may have just become more efficient at sucking so 15mins is all it takes him..
You might have a good fast flow..
How often is he feeding approx??
Also have you tried rubbing his little belly, maybe he is up with tummy pain.. Or lie him on his back and move his legs in a bicycle motion to ease wind..

Shana - Have gone back to facewasher and water after the rash started yesterday (and yep was using wipes) wondered if they might be a factor.. VERY glad we stopped.. Story sounded horrible.. Scary. Love the idea of cotton balls, as Rora is also a regular pooer and we were running short to keep up washer wise!
Goose - thanks for the info specially the toenail hints!
Moops - :hugs: For DH being back at work.. Chris goes back Wed.. so not looking forward to it..
Had Maternal Health Visit and Rora not gaining weight so seems I need to feed more often and start to give her some top up express feeds.. Had a bit of a cry.. felt like I should have known.. Bloody hormones..

Please yes listen to them but at the same time go with the mummy's instinct..
There charts are often outdated and based on formula feeding.. And every baby is different.. Yep probably a good idea to pop her on the breast often as this not only will feed her but build your supply..
But as long as she is having a good amount of wet and pooey nappies then everything is fine..
She will have a massive week of weight gain another week and 'catch up'.. Poor thing has barely had time to put on weight.. Shes so new..
Kaitlyn put on 1 kilo the past fortnight.. double the average and well above what the charts say..
And its not as if im about to limit her milk and feed her less often simply because its above average..
She will have a slow week soon with little gain just as Rora will catch up and amaze you with a big weight gain..
Im sure Rora will catch up when she is ready..
And if you think there is a problem then by all means see a doctor..
But if your happy and you think you are doing well and she is doing well then stick with what you are doing and keep up the good work.. :hugs:
You are doing a fantastic job..:goodvibes:
Thanks Nan I will do that except found that most wraps are not big enough for my little whopper. Maybe I'll have to make my own.
mel - A friend of mine gave me a couple of muslin ones that were very big, a couple of years ago. I think they were from Target, from memory.
Well, it sounds as though we are all definitely in the same boat. Caleb sounds like lots of the other bubs. He only eats for around 20 mins per feed, is eating on average every 2.5 hours, will only sleep if a boobie is thrown his way  and is confusing night from day!!! All things I am keen to change, but am finding it harder having a toddler as well.
goose - Thanks so much for the reminders mate! I so needed to read your advice. Sometimes you get stuck in a rut and its good to read others' ideas about how to handle things. You're a champ!
oh.....poo.......duty calls.......be back later for some more personals.

Thanks Nan for the advice will go looking for some wraps as bubs seems alot happier being wrapped. I went to community nurse to check on his weight and he seems to be back to his birth weight , I am happy about that. He is putting on about 20 grams a day which they seem to be happy with. he is well and truly sleeping between feeds so he must be content enough. The CHN came to the house but I didn't feel she told me anything new and will just continue getting Ash weighed to check he is growing. He ihas grown half a cm but his head is shrinking is that normal, born 37.5cm but now 36.5cm????
I hear you with toddlers mine are being brats and just can't wait till they get to bed at night. Trying to keep on top of them but you just can't dedicate the same amouont of time as you used to. You just can't stand up with a baby hanging off your boob to put them in the naughty corner. Any hints??? My Ds2 has turned from bein an angel into a devil must be jealous of Ashie.
Hi ladies feeling a little :o about my earlier post! Was having a horror day! Really emotional, questioning myself on everything. Just horrid!
Robbie, over the last 2 days, has come up in a rash all over his head and face but more predominant on his left hand side. tonight it is a little on his neck as well and a few little spots on his body but nothing in clusters. I'm not stressing because we took Abby to the doctor a while back with a very similar rash and were told it is a heat/stress rash. John comes out in a rash when he gets too hot or stressed as well. We have figured Robbie's rash is either heat/stress related or he is having a reaction to something i've eaten. Consequently he is having formula tonight and i'm expressing to give him 12 hours off breastmilk to see if that changes anything. He had his first ever bottle at about 7:30 and is sleeping so very soundly right now although my (o)(o) are killing me! Just waiting for them to fill a little more before I express.
I made sure I just bought the packet of sticks of formula not the whole container as I doubt my willpower as i know how easy it was for me with Abby on formula. I won't lie, im completely exhausted and really looking forward to handing feeding duties over to John tonight. Although I probably wont get a good nights sleep because I will stress.
We picked up a whole lot of the christmas presents we bought online today. The warehouse for pick up is in sydney so was brilliant! Cant believe the quality of everything and so cheap! it is brilliant! Really made my afternoon!
So will lactation cookies boost my supply in the sense that they will just make me produce more milk? or boost the quality of milk? or bulk it up? Naive questions I know! :o
Ok ladies take care im off to eat dinner
Take care

I was leaking milk all over the place.. lol so yep they boost the amount.. but now my body has evened out..
Im sure they boost the quality as well.. The oats and linseed must be good..
And dont be a dag.. No question is silly or naive.. We are all continuously learning.. No two babies are the same after all so even us ones with kids already need to ask questions..
We are all friends here.. Dont ever think you cant ask something..:hugs:

My bubs has a rash too but it is normal do all breast fed babies get Hormone rashes, the nurse said it's nothing to worry about, Ash has it on his neck and back and creases in his arms. Ds1 had it all over his face so maybe it will spread. I don't think it hurts them they are just getting used to your milk.IYKWIM.
If it was hurting him he would wake up and cry but he is still sleeping as well as he ever has.
At least you feel a bit better, hope it goes well tonight and you get some rest.
He had milk rash from birth is that what you mean? he had it randomly spread all over his body but that went completely and now this rash has come up! Im not really really worried about it but thought best to try to figure out if it is something im doing to him or something else
Hey girls!
2 weeks without the net and I have no idea where to start!
Connor is here and we couldnt be happier. He is feeding like a trooper and I have so much milk that I usually coat his face and neck with it meaning lots of outfit changes in our house!
Not sure I will do a birth story but the c/s went great, I was up the next day (desperate to get out of bed and off my back!) and almost no pain now - except when I am silly and turn my body before my legs.
Will have to try and catch up on everything that has been happening and send some love everyones way.

Hi guys
What a horrendous night! Luca hardly slept at all and I tried everything I knew to settle him but nothing worked.:hair:
Just when we were having a nap this morning my best friend from Australia called and her Mum passed away. I was really close to her and in any other circumstance I would be straight on a plane home to be with my friend. DH and I have been trying to figure out a way for me to go, but it's just not feasible. :(
I'm just feeling so :gloomy:, I know DH has to go to work and needs his sleep so I have been sleeping in the other room with Luca and letting DH sleep. It just feels really lonely and I'm starting to dread night times!
Sorry for the vent girls, I don't think I'm coping very well!
Some pics of Connor - the only way I know he is mine is because he come out of my tummy.... he is the splitting image of my DH, none of my features got a look in

Moops - Apparently erratic breathing patterns in a newborn is quite common, so I wouldn't worry too much. Aliyah did the same thing when she was a baby, and it freaked me out til the community nurse told me it was normal. They grow out of it within a few months when their little lungs are more developed.
I agree with Goose about the decreased feeding times. Blake has cut his feeds down from about 20-25 mins each boob, to about 15 mins each in the last few days, and I feel that his sucking reflex is much stronger. As long as they have between 6 - 8 feeds in 24 hours and their nappies are nice and wet, it's all good!
Does the UK have a 24 hour parenting phone line you can ring for advice, Moops (like Tresillian or Karitane in Australia)?
Kizmet - I'm sorry you've been so unwell, you poor love! Not a good time for it! I hope you feel much better soon. :hugs:
Melbryan - Blake's not a small baby either, so I'm in the same boat as you with the wraps. I actually bought some from Big W when Aliyah was a bub, and they're huge.....plenty big enough to wrap Blake in. I don't know if they would still sell them as that was 3 years ago, but they came in a 2 pack and are a really good size.
Vespera - those are gorgeous photos of little Connor.....what a sweetie!!
Well, Blake's still a little trooper. We have his paediatrician appointment on Thursday, so I have quite a few questions to ask. Even though Blake's doing really well now, I want to know what effects he could have later in life from the lack of oxygen at birth and the fact his heart had stopped. It's something that's always going to be in the back of my mind I guess (sometimes I wish I wasn't a nurse.....I know more than I should about this sort of thing and I'd rather not IYKWIM!) I'm concerned about everything now from learning difficulties to autism to epilepsy.....sigh! No.....I'll just keep thinking positively, damn it! :chillpill:
Morning,
Well our night was surprisingly good. Xav went down at 10.45 (after much screaming) but slept until 2am then fed and straight back to sleep until 5am. And she's gone back to sleep now without any screaming. I'm preying that means the wind might be gone. I've cut back on what I'm eating. No snacks - just cereal, sandwich and bland dinner. Also no hot drinks (was drinking a lot of hot milo), I'm only drinking milk and sometimes apple juice. I ran out of bottled water so had been drinking tap water for the last several days - now that's out. I'll wait for some more bottled water.
So hopefully, if it is me who was the culprit, this will ease it.
Moops - I slept on the couch last night with Xav in the pram. It's just easier than being paranoid Xav is going to cry and wake up Dh and then he'll be grumpy in the morning too. And I hear you on the 'not coping' feelings. Yesterday every time I spoke to Xavia I cried. I felt so bad that I couldn't seem to help her. I sent my sister an email and she called me - I cried some more. Dh came home, Xav is screaming again . . . he asks me how I'm going - out pour more tears from me.
It's hard to tell youself you are doing a good job, but as my sister said to me - if you did nothing about the crying, then you'd be doing a bad job, but you are trying everything you can to help and that's all you can do.
Ves gave a great tip - a bath does help settle a baby. Xav almost fell asleep in it yesterday! I lay the face cloth over her chest/tummy and keep wetting it with the warm water to keep her warm.
Another thing you might like to try is some natural colic relief syrup (from the chemist suitable from birth). Or a dummy?
Hope your day is better.

Morning All,
Well sounds like all our little bubs have been cheeky. Don't worry mine is too. She better grow out of it that's for sure LOL!!!
We have just purchased and Lullabub Cot rocker hoping that will help here's a link if I'm allowed to post that http://www.babyhugs.com.au/index.html hopefully that might help her reflux too. We are going to try anything for a decent night's sleep LOL!!
Last night I went to a book party and she was unsettled a little bit there and got home around 9.30pm and she finally went to sleep at 10.15pm. Woke up at 2am for a feed and thenshe was wide awake at 5.15am and back asleep at 6.30am. Then DS comes in at 7am so haven't had much sleep last night so will be resting most of the day today.
Hope everyone else has a nice day.

Moops hugs to you hope you friend is coping OK.
ABout reflux my last two bubs had reflux you can get silent and projectile vomitting. It's when they start losing weight reflux becomes a problem cause they can't keep the food down. One was on meds the other I just put up with it and for 10 mths he chucked and no one would believe me he had reflux the paed said he was naughty and that's why he cried. He cried for 7 hrs once and I cried cause I didn't know what to do. I am sure I had PND with him but never got diagnosed. I could hear in his throat swallowing up and down and it really hurt him. Whenever I laid him flat he wailed so they had to sleep sitting up. His wind never came up either so I think they suffered colic too. I would just spend hours patting them. I really feel for parents of babies who are very unsettled cause I have been there and it's damn tough don't feel bad for crying but if your feeling bad all the time see a doc it will help. Baths are great to settle I second that.
Nicole my Ds2 started choking at birth and I too wonder about that too but have never looked into it, I'd be interested to find out what you find with it.
Ashie is 2 weeks today he is angel finger crossed though. I am in love all over again and it helps that he is an easy baby. I said that about Ds2 he has turned into a monster.

Last night Kaitlyn had a shower with her daddy and it calmed her right down, helped get rid od her tummy pain (she done a poosplosion in the shower lol) and she drifted off to sleep nicely once she was dressed and had a feed..
Hi everyone
just sticking my head in to say we went to the CHN. Robbie's rash is just a hormone rash! He also has inherited his daddy's heat rash it seems as well. His hormone rash comes up after I feed and it appears all over his face and head sometimes chest but the rash over the rest of him is a heat rash and goes as soon as i get him cooled down!
Poor little bubba! Thankfully neither of them seem to be annoying him! Oh and I asked her about his feeding and she said she thinks he is just comfort sucking most of the time and I should just put him on 20 mins one side then change him then 20 mins the other then distract him by playing with him for an hour then put him down to sleep. He screams when he isnt feeding though so dont know how this is going to work out but we will give it a go!
He is also 4.09 kg now! happy he is putting on weight! Have to go back to CHN on thursday probably or maybe next week as it was appt only today ( i had no idea) so she had no time to do the full check up thing.
Ok totally buggered be back for personals later!
Just a quick hi from us... Rylans been very cranky the last week so not getting much sleep.. :hissy:
Today is the day that I thought I was going to deliver him.. and I'd estimated 8lb 6oz.. I weighed him this morning and he's 8lb 5.9oz... how freaky was that.. mind you I was nearly 3 weeks out on delivery day tho lol..

Wow Tally good estimation. Hope ylan gives you a bit more sleep.
Hi Ladies
Thought I would join in the fun. My little boy Jacob is a month old today. I can't actually believe how far we have come. He was born by emergency c-section after 6 hours of labour. He ended up having the cord wrapped around his neck three times so his heartbeat was getting dangerously low, but he recovered prety quickly.
He is being pretty good with feeding and sleeping, but for some reason is really unsettled from about 4:30am for a few hours and I can't work out what that is all about just yet. I am enjoying the whole mother thing, just pretty tired by the end of the day as we all are.
I noticed someone was looking for some big wraps. I got a pack of 3 from BigW recently for under $12 and they are fabulous.

Congratulations on your little man.. (Great name, my son who is 2.5yrs is also a Jacob.. )
Welcome to the group..
I look forward to getting to know you and chatting on this wonderful journey that is motherhood.. :goodvibes:
What time do you last feed Jacob before you put him down for the night?? As in bath or pjs, some awake time and big feed then bed??
Maybe you need to try pushing it back a little later so he doesnt think its time to play at 4:30..
When you say unsettled do you mean grumpy/windy/sore tummy or just unsettled as in he wants to stay awake and look around instead of sleeping??

Howdy yummy mummies!!
I am on :cloud9: today after a much better night than the one before. Caleb only woke once at 3am for a feed after feeding at 10:30pm & didn't eat again until 6am, so I'm stoked with that. We'll se what tonight brings...... :fingerscrossed:
Moops - Sorry to hear about your friend's mum & that you are feeling down. :hugs: Don't forget, we all get baby blues, hun. The old hormones are going nuts at the moment. You're doing the best you can and that's all Luca could ask for in a mum. You do have good and bad days. Its good you're talking about it.

Howdy june78. Welcome to the thread. Sometimes babies just have feral time and there is no explanation. In fact, most of them do. I have worked out that Caleb's is from around 9pmish to 1amish. Anywhere in between there he can go a bit feral for no reason. Thankfully its not every day!
Speaking of erratic breathing......I don't know how you girls cope sleeping in close proximity to your bubs! I have to put Caleb in the lounge in his bassinet, as I would NEVER sleep. I hear everything and freak out at everything! As it is he's just across the hallway from our room, so not too far away, but far enough not to hear every little niggle.
Yeah, I reckon they get more awake time at around 2-3 weeks. I was freaking out coz Caleb always sleeps, but he is a normal 5 day old!!!! He has about 2-2.5 hours every day of alert time where he 'plays' with toys & Eden!!!
Well, must be off to get some tea. Shane is cooking again! :smiliedance:
Lots of love and :goodvibes: to all.

GOOSE - :hugs::hugs: Your reply and support was much appreciated.. I never would limit roras supply if she measured over either.. teh comparisom helped me to feel alot more confident and calmer in feeding.. We did the 4 hour feeds and she seems to like that! and so far I have been able to express about 20ml so hope that helps boost supply too. With Roar only a week and 1 day old I figure supply still establishing?
Kismet - Oh What a relife to know what the rash is! Big huggs robbie and Mum
WELCOME June78 :)
Anyone using Angelcare monitors? We found we hear other babies on it! Freaked us right out!
Rora a bit scaley so a bath and moistiurise tonight see how we go!

Just popping in to say hi to everyone. Im pretty drained... Peyton is a good bub sleeps well at night which is a blessing, today she was pretty unsettled and wouldnt go down. Thank god for the hug-a-bub sling. It's just having Keenan a 16month old and a newborn it gets really busy. Trying to get all the washing done, housework in between feeding, playing settling the kids- its starting to wear me out a tad. But I know Ill manage. I know it will get easier as they get older, but for now I just have to percivere (sp)...
Hope everyone is doing really well
Sorry for no personals I barely have time to even post, I feel selfish. I will try my best to read through posts tomoz.

Hi all
just had a quick read through the last pg or 2, soumds like evryones bubs are doing great.
Thought id pop in and tell you how bub is. He is 3 weeks 4 days old, he is a real good baby, just goes with the flow ( has to fit in with the 2 girls), and has already rolled over from tummy to back, which he did at 1.5 weeks old!!!
He sleeps 3-4 hr lots, likes to have a bit of play time and loves the :tree: just stares at it.
Im having a mental blank  so ill come back later and write more.
Take care :flowerz:
mum of 2 angels- Robbie rolls as well! Started doing it from birth basically  John and I were in absolute shock! Pretty sure it is just a reflex but we were so proud
mummymer-I know how you feel! I rarely get the headspace to do personals so im making sure I do them now while John looks after the kids :smiliedance: It is exhausting isn't it! We have a 21 month age gap between the kids here and it is quite tiring. Not sure if it is more physically or mentally exhausting but we will get there!
Em-love your avatar! we're not using angelcare monitors but we can put ours on the other station and pick up on truckies or the kids next door, across the road! Really is strange!
Nan-everything is going well, tiring but well! Trying the CHN's suggestion of 20 mins each side with nappy change inbetween for feeding. So far so good although I have to say I totally caved all day without John here. I just stressed at him crying so comfort fed him to sleep 3 times :o but when John got home I gave him his feed, got John to change him and give him a bath then fed him again and handed him over and John sang and rocked him off to sleep! I did have to express after though but only 30mls from both boobs combined so I think they were faking being sore
Goose-6 weeks already!!! Time sure does fly!!! Do you have any more pics of her? has she changed much from birth?
melbryan-Robbie in the last week has only really wanted to have some awake time he was 3 weeks on saturday. He had awake time before then but wasnt alert IYKWIM. My CHN used to be drop in tues and thurs with wed by appt but when I got there today they had changed it to tues and wed by appt but thankfully they fit us in for a quick visit.
June-welcome!! Look forward to sharing this journey with you! What a scary birth experience for you! So glad everything is going well now!
Tally-I hope Rylan sleeps better for you tonight hun :hugs:
Moops-i'm so sorry for your loss! :hugs:
Ok ladies I must admit I hit reply and have been scrolling down to read everyone's posts to do personals as I just cannot remember anything right now! I know there is more to write but the posts have cut off so I will have to be back for more personals later!
Take care everyone!
Hi!
We had a slightly better night last night, Luca was really unsettled till about 11pm then slept till 1am then to 4am then to 7am so not tooo bad.
Glad to hear that other bubs are following the same pattern and we're not alone. I think he has wind problems he looks in pain and goes all red, i will have to mention it to the middie on Friday.
Here are a few pics from our wedding, we finally got them! We had to scan them so the quality isn't perfect

Hi ladies.
I feel so slack not posting as much as I used to, just finding it so hard at the moment. When i'm not feeding Anakin, i'm getting him to sleep or spending time with MJ.........& Thats WITH DH at home. Don't know how we'll go when he's not here. Hoping to get some sort of routine going to atleast give me time to do things. He still prefers to sleep with me, which part of me loves, part doesnt. I do like him being near, but I just can't settle. I'm always worried about moving with him in the bed so I end up staying in the same position which kills my pelvis.
Just wanted to update, he is a little pig. He was, at 8 days old, heavier than his birth weight. He's up to 3.91kg. My milk is certainly doing the job. He feeds anywhere from every 2hours of a day & some nights sleeps up to 6hours at a stretch. Just a shame its in the morning & not first thing at night so that I could sleep too. He is a very sucky bub, so I am VERY tempted to introduce a dummy...........I don't like them but it would give me more time with MJ as he has to suck to go to sleep & as soon as he detatches he wakes. Nipples are still very tender & peeling cause he is comfort sucking. Engorgement is no more thank goodness, that was so painful. Just getting the re-fill pains every hour or 2.
Nappies are annoying me. As soon as I change him, he poo's, GUARANTEED. Might stop using wipes on him as he seems to have my skin & everything makes him red.
MJ has stopped feeding, still not sure how I feel about it. Part of me is happy, part isn't. I miss our time together, her drinking from a cup on my lap just isn't the same. But at the same time, she wont suck properly so ends up making my nipples peel. So many conflicting things. Who knew parenting would be so difficult
All in all, i'm coping ok. Baby blues aren't near as bad as with MJ, have my teary moments & tend to yell to quickly, but coping ok. MJ is being a pain most of the time, refusing to take no for an answer, especially when she wants to touch bub. She just doesn't get that he doesnt like being poked, patted, etc constantly.
I'd better go this post is HUGE & he is due to wake again soon, so will take this opportunity to eat.
:hugs: to you all :hugs:

I hear everything and freak out at everything! As it is he's just across the hallway from our room, so not too far away, but far enough not to hear every little niggle.
Yeah, there's no way I could sleep with Blake in our room every night! He snorts and snuffles and makes so much noise when he's asleep. It was bad enough rooming in with him in when we were in the special care nursery! When Aliyah was a baby she did the same thing.....we used a monitor for about the first 2 nights home with her, and ended up switching the damn thing off as neither of us got any sleep. We aren't using a monitor at all with Blake. He's in the room right next to ours so we hear him anyway.
Blake seems to be having more awake time during the day, the last 2 or 3 days (he'll be 3 weeks on Thursday). Aliyah loves playing with him when he's awake, and he's quite responsive to her. :goodvibes:
Morning,
So all (a lot) of babies have inexplicable feral times of day? Is it their digestive system working things out? Or what? Xav seems fine but when she gets tired (yawning) I put her to bed and it starts. She doesn't want to be put down, wants to comfort suck but ends up drinking anyway - refuses one or other boob. And sometimes even giving her the bb doesn't help, she just keeps screaming. I can only think she gets overtired very quickly and it's so much harder to settle. Eventually (after an hour of on/off crying) she crashes - on me, maybe on the bb and I can transfer her to bed.
I'm just so confused why she can't switch off and go to sleep easily. She did it fine up until a few days ago. I guess their little brains are developing at a super fast pace and maybe they are confused too?
It's just so awful that her 'awake' time - what little there is, is spent crying. She was feeding for about 40 mins (20 mins drinking, nappy change, burp time)then having about 10 mins 'awake' time in the rocker before the yawns start and I would wind her down for sleep. So in all, she'd be awake for about 1 1/4 hrs all up. I was putting her on the bb for sleep, but am trying to switch her to the dummy. Sometimes she takes it and falls asleep beautifully, but more often than not, she gets real agro about it.
Well, I'm sorry so many of you are going through similar things. But glad it's not just me. :o
Hi guys!
Sorry i've only posted in here once been heaps busy round here and as i type now Jacy and Caleb are climbing all over me and whinging.. They are driving me MAD.. Balin is great feeding really well I have no idea how long for but it's always a while and always both breasts, he is such a good sleeper too.. but then the others were too, he goes down at about 9.30 after a bath and a feed and has slept til 4am the last 2 nights then sleeps again til at least 7.30 when the boys wake up. He doesnt really sleep too much during the day. So i'm not as tried as i thought I would be but still nothing much is being done around the house and the boys have started dressing themselves when they wake up the probably think it's a game or something but it's cute cause everything is always inside out and back to front:laughing: I havr to re-dress them when I see them.
Well take care
Hi Ladies
Im totally buggered this morning! Didnt have the best of nights! Was supposed to be going out to meet with friends today but the storm here is so bad and im that tired I dont feel safe driving so we're housebound.
How's everyone's christmas preparations going? we did half our shopping online so im feeling happy we finally have some things wrapped under the tree. I sorted out christmas dinner with MIL yesterday so i dont need to stress about everything to do with that any more. Now just need to finish shopping (:hair:) and put the outdoor lights up!
RB it is so good to hear from you! I have been meaning to pm as my skype isnt working but everytime I go to pm something happens then my baby brain forgets what i was going to do when i get back to the laptop

Ooooh, hang on, have I missed something:confused:When's this happening? That would be good.....to put some names to faces!
Well, I had a chat to the counsellor this morning about Blake's birth. She definitely thinks I have a bit of post traumatic stress and wants to keep an eye on me to ensure I don't develop post natal depression. I don't feel like that will happen, but she said sometimes stress can trigger it, or tiredness. She's coming back next week so Craig and I can both talk to her together about our thoughts on the birth, which will be good, as Craig tends to bottle things up (like most blokes I guess!). I told her that I was starting to feel a bit of anger towards the doctor who reviewed Blake's 35 week scan, because it should have been suggested to me then to have an early induction or a caesar because of his size.....the counsellor told me I could write a letter of complaint to the hospital if it would make me feel better. I think I might, as there's no way I'd want anyone else to go through what I did.

Well we ad an absolute shocker last night. Ali was crying non stop from 7.30pm till 3am this morning. I've booked a doctors appiontment for tomorrow and it looks like she may have to go on medication. We'll see what the doctors says anyway. I feel bad if I have to resort to medication but she's in so much pain and I don't think I could last much longer feeling like a zombie 24hrs a day esecially with DH working away at the mines. Has anyone else's child/ren been on any medication for reflux/colic?
I have read everyone's posts just can't do personals right now but wishing you all a good night tonight!!!!

Shana our bubs are the same age and I have noticed he is more awake after a feed so I am leaving him on a mat for up to an hour. He doesn't cry but when he starts yawning I put him to bed. He is crying in his bed so I think he doesn't want to sleep alot. He is only 2 weeks old but I s'pose he is pretty alert for that age.
Perrywinkle Ds1 &2 had reflux I asked the paed and she gave zantac 1 ml per day. I kept him on it until 3 mths and would take him off to see if he improved I found that when he is upright he started feeling better. My Ds' s cried for about 7 hrs staright and I wasn't going to go through this as it was worse with Ds1 I demanded some meds as it settled him alot. SO far Ds3 has no sign of it.
I'd be in a for a meet up to see everyone's bubbas.
Take care all,

hi guys
Just joining the group now, baby Kikki was born on 15/11/07, pretty easy labour, got induced, had drugs straight away and pushed her out in about 1 hour.. i honestly can say the "poo's" after the birth for me was far worse than the pushing! damn that constipation!
anyway, glad to join the group, Kikki is 3 weeks old today and sleeping on average for 3 hours at a time and feeding well. She wakes twice during the night, sometimes taking about 1 hour to settle and put her to bed, but its not too bad...
ANyone up for a Melbourne meet session??? maybe a Xmas lunch thingy??
Ok, I'm of two minds - I think I need some type of fabric sling. I have an Infantino Carrier, but I tried puting her in it the other day and she swam in it. So a more snug sling would be better.
On the other hand - if I've constantly got her in a sling all day, how do I get any rest? Am I not teaching her that she needs to always be on me to sleep? (though I know it's lovely to cuddle them all day)
She is alseep now - on me. And I really should be lying down myself, but as soon as I put her down she wakes up.
She seems to be up hourly today (if not sleeping on me) and my boobs are taking a beating to get her back to sleep again!
Sorry to ramble only about myself and no personals. . . . you are like my diary :o.

odette is going well at the moment with at least one unsettled period a day, the rest of the time she feeds and sleeps reasonably well. DF has caught a coupla bad shifts while i've been fortunate with a couple of wuick ones in the night.
apparently they grow out of falling asleep on you!!!!!!!! this would be just devastating! it's my fave time with her at the moment!
hope everyone is going well...!

Hi guys
I'm just feeling so :gloomy:, I know DH has to go to work and needs his sleep so I have been sleeping in the other room with Luca and letting DH sleep. It just feels really lonely and I'm starting to dread night times!
Hi Moops, im a little worried about this too.. hubby goes back to work next week, and im dreading it already... i have one idea to help with the lonliness... i bought a video ipod and have put some fave dvd's on it so i can watch it while b/f at night.., especially 1/2hour sitcoms... it really passes the time!
Well we are having a bad day here today :gloomy: - Connor is happy to go to sleep as long as its on me or DH.... He wont sleep for longer than 30 mins in the bassinette but will happily sleep for 5 hours on your lap or on your chest. Needless to say lots of tv has been watched here because I cant sleep when he is on me. Wish the idea of co-sleeping didnt freak me out as I think he would be so much more settled in bed with us.
Heres hoping a bath this arvo will tire him out and I can get some stuff done!
Ves - that's just what Xav was doing. I kept trying to put her down and she would keep waking or only sleep 30-40mins. In the end it was making her overtired b/c she wasn't getting the blocks of sleep she needed. So I let her sleep on me a couple of time, just so she got her sleep. Overnight though she slept in her bed fine. I'm not sure if they just need the extra security of hearing your heartbeat sometimes or maybe they have a little wind that is uncomfortable when they lie down - but ok if they are semi upright on you?
Perrywinkle - The pram is Xav's bed! For the express purpose that I can move it around the house wherever I am, plus it allows a slight incline to her position which is better for wind. I'm hesitant to start rocking her in it though as I don't want to create yet another habit I'll have to de-train her from down the track.
Thanks for the tips on slings ladies (another habit in the making).
Snake eater - I have had some really bad stomach pain yesterday and a little today. I'm not sure if it's the uterous though as it was more 'gas pain' rather than period/uterous pain. I did read somewhere that from having a c-sec sometimes air can get trapped inside and is uncomfortable until it works its way out (somehow). Not sure on that . .but I did read it somewhere. . .
Things are getting better here. Xav is sleeping better (on me a lot during the day) and the screaming is few and far between now, thank god. I hope our good run continues. I'm now feeding her while I'm reclining to slow the flow down, giving Infant's Friend during every feed, B'feeding exclusively (no bottles of BM or F) and letting her fall to sleep on me. Also eating the boringest food you could imagine.
Im dying for a glass of coke though. My diet is so plain it's enough to make you cry.
Morning ladies just quickie here everything is great my (.)(.) are killing me i really hate the filling up feeling, Balin spent all night sucking so now he's not hungry and i am engorged! Thanks bubba! Might express some soon if he doesnt wake cause they are annoying and soo hard and sore must do something about it!
I have finally done a birth story heres the link for anyone interested http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=140480
Snake Eater Odette is a cutie
so is Aroura Em just read ur birth story love all the pics!
U guys with partners at home are lucky Dh took 4 days off from when i was labouring and 2 days after the birth then went back to work when i got home from the hospital, He's having 4 weeks off over christmas so i really cant complain i suppose just would have been nice if he was here at the moment.
Now it's time for the boys to have a sleep so i have to run, my only peace thru out the day! Take care!

WOW!! Finally had time to read everything I have missed on this thread! Cngrats to all of you who have had babies since the 24th LOL - haven'thad time to read thru our Nov mummies thread but am sure that I will catch up on all the goss in this one. Have had one day home alone with Noah and he had a restless period from 9am til around lunch time. Small feeds and didn't like to be put down. You guys have once again made me feel normal!!! He has continued like thatfor a few days with shorter & moe regular feeds. Doesn't really burp much, but poos and farts heaps! Buying some of that Infant's Friend today but don't know where to buy it - helath food shop/coles/phamacy??????? I think my milk is still establishing, so he gulps it in, then feels unsettled for a while.. at least it isn't happenig during the night! He wakes every 2-3hrs mostly, but has slept for up to 5 or 6 on odd occasions. Worried about is belly button - it fell off on day 7, but since day 10 it looks like it's bleeding, but 'diluted' blood. Anyone else had this prob? Bathing him once a day cos he has peeling skin in some areas, & find it impossible to keep nappies from rubbing on it/keeping wet part of nappies away from it. By the way, what are terry flats? No rashes here but paed said to expect 'mozzy bite' looking things, never happened though.
Welcome Snake Eater & June78!!! xx
Gotta duck out for nail appt, will finish posting when I get home! Love to everyone!!!!xxxxxxx

Hi girls!
Just a quick post to let you know that we had Blake's paediatrician checkup today. Everything is going really well, and the paed is very happy with his progress so far. He wants to keep an eye on Blake so he can make sure he is reaching his milestones over the next 12 months or so ( which he is doing ok with at present). He told me there is a slight possibility of speech or learning problems in future so as soon as we are concerned about any of Blake's milestones we are to contact him straight away. As for the possibility of epilepsy later on, the paed said that all babies have a 1% chance of developing it......because of Blake's problems at birth, he has about 3-4% chance. In saying that, the paed said that still means there is a 96% chance he won't develop it.....so epilepsy is highly unlikely :smiliedance: Because Blake is doing so well, he doesn't foresee any major problems down the track.
Sandralee - you can get Infant's Friend from the chemist. There is another one similar too, called 'Marina Infants Mixture' that my sis used. Terry flats are the old square terry towel nappies you fold.
And Ive noticed dried blood coming from Xav's belly button.

Yeh is all normal hun.. Little bit of blood or clearish ooze.. As long as it doesnt look pussey(cos then it may be infected..) Just kept it clean and it will clear up in time..
No rashes here but paed said to expect 'mozzy bite' looking things, never happened though.
Kaitlyn only got hers at 4 weeks.. Just like pimples.. Its from all the hormones in there body.. They are clearing up now..
Miss K slept for 7 hours last night.. Little angel.. now if only i had a good block of sleep instead of getting up several times to check she was ok.. lol Totally wasnt expecting such a long sleep.. She does 2-3 hour blocks during the day and 3-4 hour blocks at night (plus that marathon 7hrs which im praying keeps up :goodvibes:)
She has bad wind also but as long as we burp in between and after every feed she usually is ok..

Goose, how do you put Kaitlyn in the baba sling? I have one but when I have tried to put Sophie in it she looks really uncomfortable - like her head/neck is all squashed. I'm obviously not doing it right.
Kaitlyn only got hers at 4 weeks.. Just like pimples.. Its from all the hormones in there body.. They are clearing up now..
Sophie has little lumps on her face at the moment. I wasn't sure if it was a rash or pimples or something that I should get looked at. Is this what it would be??
No time to write anything else at the moment. Heaps to do before Sophie wakes up - which could be any minute now...
Hope you're all going ok today.

Well we've got back from the doctors and we will be going to see a paediatrician tomorrow about her reflux. He's concerned about the about of chucking she's doing and her weight gain. He had a good feel of her tummy too and has asked for an ultra sound whilst I'm feeding to see if everything is working properly in there. So we'll see how we go tomorrow.
Lozie - 4 weeks over Xmas sounds great. DH had only 4 days off when Ali came along but he is also having 2 weeks off over Xmas due to work shutting down.
AliyahBlake - Glad everything went well with the paed. That's great you can see him if you have any concerns. Must be worrying for you both.
Goose - 7hrs Oh I'm so jealous!!!!!!!!
Hey ladies!
Not sure how long this will be as Robbie is starting to think of waking aka Abby is trying to give him cuddles to wake him up
I have been getting John to give him bottles at night so I can try to get some sleep as the headaches from lack of sleep were really hard to deal with especially since Abby has discovered that she likes to shout everything instead of merely saying it to me :hair: Trying to explain indoor and outdoor voice to a 21 month old isnt very easy!
I have been trying my hardest to cut Robbie's feeds down to 20 mins each side with a burp and nappy change in between and it works brilliantly when John is at home because I hand him over after the last feed and John 'plays with him' and sings to him and gets him off to sleep whereas in the day time I find myself more willing to give in and feed him to sleep just to keep the peace iykwim. I know bad habits and such but im sure things will settle once he gets a little older.
We are having trouble with wind here too. Sometimes he brings it up so easily or farts away soooo easily (and loudly it is hilarious) but then other ties it is such a struggle to bring the wind up. Am waiting until he is 1 month old before bringing wind drops in. We use infacol. They are the ones we used with Abby so tried and tested here.
Ok he is waking must go will come back for more later

Goose, how do you put Kaitlyn in the baba sling? I have one but when I have tried to put Sophie in it she looks really uncomfortable - like her head/neck is all squashed. I'm obviously not doing it right.
Ok then.. bare with me in case this makes no sense at all..
Are you putting her in it with say her head where the tag is and her body along the sling with the material.. ( so head at one end where the material goes to strap and feet at the other 'thin' end where the strap starts..)
or are you putting her in 'across' the material so her head and feet are along where there is the slight raised padding on the edge of the sling..
I found the first way i described works well and she is fine and comfy.. The second way i described is unco and she was all bent and odd looking..
Shes crying right now but ill get the names of the two different ways im talking bout and get back to you.. Have you had a look at the pictures on the site??
Sophie has little lumps on her face at the moment. I wasn't sure if it was a rash or pimples or something that I should get looked at. Is this what it would be??
Yeh thats what it would be.. If it looks worse than a case of pimples or like its itching/hurting her then use your instinct and get it checked.. But id say it would just be the usual baby 'rash/pimples' from the hormones and there little bodys adjusting..

Noah didn't wake the whole time I was gone - left Steve with 2 bottles of expessed milk just in case, so I am very happy to have them sitting in the fridge for tonight! MwahMwahMwah.. I like to call them 'liquid gold' cos they give me freedom to go shopping or have extra sleep in between feeds! He has had a few bottles now and they dont seem to have interfered with BF at all.. so YAY!!! Thanks for yr advice re wind drops & bellybuttons! Do you guys 'open it' and rinse the inside of it, or just sponge bathwater over it? I have just been sponging.
EcstaticEm - we have angelcare monitor, haven't picked any outside noises up yet.
Shana - takes me about half hr to express, I get sick of it after that. I do it after a feed and only get a total of about 50mls with both boobs combined - have only exressed about half a dozen times, but would probably get heaps more if I didn't wait until after I fed Noah. Sh*t, I think that much alone pours down my shirt while I am feeding him with the other b**b!
Kittylou - gave Noah his first bottle at 5 days and hasn't given me BF dramas.
Goose - what is MCN?
Kizmet - my place has been adorned with a whirlwind of baby stuff and I have found it hard to keep ahead with housework too. Even just bathing him on the kitchen bench leaves a tornado of baby products behind. Took me days to recover from my parents visit LOL, they put everything back into unusal places, meanwhile washing was piling up, and beside our bed was a lot of baby cr*p.. I find it hard to relax if my place is messy and that has made it pretty much impossible to snooze, even though I know I should be! Have had one small 60min arvo nap, and that was yesterday after doing a huge tidy up! Too much else to do, so can't relax enough to sleep and 'waste time' LOL.
Moops - I hear you with niht time feeds, cos I too have felt a bit daunted as the sun goes down.. not every day, but it's almost like I know I will be the one who gets up to Noah during the night, and never know what will be in store for me. Even on the days Steve has off from work, I know that I will more than likely be the one to get up to our sprog during the night. One night I counted 7 nappy changes in almost as many minutes, his little butt just kept on pooping, after a big feed.. then he wanted to feed again afterwards.. so ya never know what getting up in the middle of the night holds in store for you! And it does feel kinda lonely knowing that everyone else gets to sleep peacefully while you could be running an absolute marathon! As cute as they are, there is always the unknown in the midde of the night to consider!
EcstaticEm - I file Noah's nails every couple of days as he likes to scratch his face and poke his eyes etc, and I am not game enough to use clippers yet as I have heard too many horror stories about clipping their finger tips LOL!
No nappy rash here, I am using Lucas Paw Paw ointment - I also rub some where his disposables rub on his upper thighs. Trying to use cloth nappies (hehe 'terry flats' LOL) during the day, which feel so much softer BUT when I lay him down in his bed, his bottom seems to be up so high that I wait for his stomach contents to pour out of his mouth LOL!
Melbryan - I have found that the soft stretchy cotton wraps from BigW work really well for swaddling, the muslin ones didn't have a s much 'give' in them. We started buying 2packs of them at a baby boutique for $30, then I found packs of 3 at BIgW for $11 this week. Sometimes he likes to be swaddled (bedtimes) and the rest of the time it gives him the sh*ts, as he likes to play with his hands.
Have tried introducing a pacifier, somtimes he gags or screws his nose up, and other times he will have a few sucks before pushing it out of his mouth. Any tips girls? I have bought a few different kinds, but maybe have to offer them more regularly until he gets used to them. Otherwise it looks like he will be a finger or thumb sucker!
Using lansinoh on my nipples in between feeds when I can remember, and no sore nipples at all.
Got so sick of doing up buttons on bodysuits every 5 mins that I went out and bought a lot of bonds tops and leggings - we have air con, so he needs to be covered with something that is also easily accessible at nappy time.
Haven't altered my diet much, but wa eating lots of fesh fruit, so maybe that is why he does so many explosive poos! I knew to avoid cabbage and lots of coffee, but as far as anything else I am totally oblivious! Have cut back on the fruit, but refuse to have a bland diet.. Sounds like too much effort to figure out what foods give him gas or the poos! I am flat out remembering one feed time!!!!:dizzy:
BIg hugs!!!!! XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Yep that's what I'm doing but looks uncomfortable. Do you put her head right at the top or further down? I've downloaded the instructions and tried to follow them but it just doesn't seem to be working for me. I might just need more practice.
Sandralee- you are a classic! I love reading your posts.
My mum told me to express about an our after a feed. Apparently it takes an hour to replenish the stock? lol. When I've given her a bottle she loses half of it out the side I reckon because she cant control the flow.
I'd like some tips on getting the dummy in too. Xav will do the same, suck a few times, spit it out, gag. She has put her self to sleep with it once I think. But I'm real paranoid about letting her get overtired (gets ugly), so I cave and give her the boob.
Oh, speaking of boob .. . .time to get it out again . . .back later.

hrmmm.. I think she has her head almost to the top but not quite.. prob about 10cms from the top..
I put the sling on.. then hold her across my body.. and basically pull the sling up, over and around her with my other hand..
Then i need to wriggle her and the sling to make sure she is in a comfy position..
It took awhile to figure out.. and even now sometimes it doesnt work and i have to take her out and try again..
I cant wait to be able to use it when she is sitting up, that looks much easier.. lol

time.
Blake's the same with swaddling.......he gets too hot during the day to wrap him up too much, so I've just been lightly swaddling him and leaving his arms out. He still settles pretty well that way.
Blake is also the same with a dummy.....he hates 'em! Aliyah was the same. Blake gets cranky everytime we try and put one in his mouth, and on the rare times he does take the dummy, he spits it out after a few sucks and won't have it again. He loves to suck on his fingers instead! I have no tips, Sandralee.....I would just go with the flow and not worry about the dummy if you don't have to. It's one less thing to wean Noah off when he's older!
:iagree: The Lansinoh ointment is a sore nipple's best friend!! I've had no cracked nipples this time as I use it after each feed and after my shower. The stuff is magic!

Thanks to everyone on the tips for the wraps will go and buy some from Big tomorrow.
Having really itchy left nipple which I am not really feeding off only when it gets too full because of the cracked nipples. I am using Lasinoh but hoping it's not oral thrush, will ask the CHN next week.
Went out with the gang today and yep we got some looks a lady said 'gee they're close together, don't worry they'll be great mates' and she might as well had her whole head in my pram. We got through and it's just lucky I am a patient person. Not likely to go to the shops to soon again though with all three boys.
I will say Ashton is an angel hope he doesn't change but knowing my luck he will be a toddler soon and a terror. He is feeding beautifully and has 7 hrs at night and 5 hrs between feeds in the day. Can't really have asked for a better bubs, my last 2 were refluxers. I am falling in love all over again, I think he is just georgous. Have to protect him from my 16 mth old while he was feeding got a moituriser bottle and whacked him on the head, I am always having my hands up shielding him but Ds2 is so quick.
Hope the blues don't stick around for too long for those feeling down. I had the energy to clean today but most days just laze around in my pj's I don't feel bad just need to get through each day at a time.
Does anyone used tampons or pads, I have always used pads for PP bleeding don't know why. Any ideas. Is there a reason for pads and not tampons??
 Hi guys. I'm home! Just wondering if I can stick with you guys even though Luigi was bon on December 1st? You guys are like family to me!
Hi!
Hope everyone is doing well and settling in with their bubs. I met up with the girls from my antenatal class yesterday and some girls are really struggling so i guess I can't really complain. However....I need advice!
Luca will not sleep in his cot! He generally sleeps well with me in bed or when I'm holding him on the couch but as soon as I put him down he screams the house down - any tips??? I'm worried that he's going to become too needy and attached to me but is it right to just let him cry and cry in his cot? He's only 11 days old today, I don't know if I'm being too tough.
Do you try to limit their sleeping during the day so they sleep better at night? Yesterday Luca slept for 5 hours without stirring and we had a horrendous night last night, he didn't sleep till 3am then only 3 hours and 2 hours. I just wish he was a better sleeper! Is everyone's bubs in their room?? Luca makes so much noise that when he finally sleeps he keeps us up anyway, is it very dangerous to have him in another room?
Melbryan - I think they advise against using tampons so you don't get any infection.
Sorry for all the questions!
sandralee

Melbryan - ditto with infection from tampon use, like Moops said. Although it is so tempting!! Wearing pads AND full undies to bed and under clothes is making me cranky LOL! Cannot WAIT for this stage to finish.
Rianna - we have all bonded in the november thread, & I think you sticking around is a 'given!'
Moops - Noah doesn't seem to have too much of a sleeping pattern, he has slept for 5-6hrs on a couple of occasions, but is generally 2-3hrs. We have had him in our room in his portable cot with a snuggle bed so he feels cosy. Tried putting him in his nursery for a day sleep but he just lay there looking around until he got cranky - babies are extremely sensitive, so they probably just 'feel' like they are in a different environment and have to take the time to adjust. I mostly keep him out in the family room during the day in his rocker, where he is around heaps of noise for the most part - he seems to have some of his best sleeps when it's noisy. He also is okay at going to sleep by himself in a quiet room at night - about 95% of the time I haven't had to help him off to sleep.. I just feed him, wrap him if I feel like it, and pop him in bed. He seems to get pretty tired after a feed, & usually falls asleep (or close to it) on his way to bed. I want to train him to be able to sleep anywhere during the day, so I am constantly mxing things up by putting him down in our room or the family room etc. Might also bring his pram in out of the car and get him used to that - I put him in it when he was 4days old and he didn't seem to like it, so carried him around the shop. Gotta work on that one - maybe a snuggly sheepskin under him will do the trick. Will keep trying to put him down in his cot though, to get him used to it, and see if it gets better with repetition - maybe try to pick a time when he looks pretty out of it, so he gets used to at least waking up in there to start with? Good luck!

Yep, I am doing the same thing as Sandralee.....Blake sleeps in the main area of the house during the day and is only in his cot at night. He sleeps no more than a couple of hours at a time during the day, which means that at night he is getting better quality sleeps. His "witching hour" seems to be around 6-8pm, where he just gets downright cranky and windy, and not much can calm him (typical, it's dinner time for us, and also when we try and settle Aliyah down for the evening!). Usually, he's fed, bathed and in his cot around 7ish, and he carries on for an hour then eventually settles himself to sleep. We're starting a bit of controlled crying with him, but he is only 3 weeks old, so we only let him cry for a couple of minutes before we go and cuddle or pat him to settle. Controlled crying worked well with Aliyah, and she learned to settle herself fairly early. It is hard to let them cry, but as long as you've worked through the list of possibilities (i.e that it's not hunger, a dirty nappy, wind etc) then it's good to try and let them settle themselves. The trick is not to let them get too worked up (otherwise you're at a point of no return!!), so that's why we only let Blake cry for a couple of minutes tops. I think in the end he gets so exhausted he just falls asleep!
Moops - sounds like your little man has you on toast  I reckon just let him cry a little for a couple of minutes in his cot - babies are resiliant and it won't hurt him.......I found with Aliyah that some soothing music helped to settle her when she was a baby, as she didn't like the cot much to begin with either. I think I mentioned before that Blake sleeps in his own room as we couldn't stand the noise he makes. Aliyah did the same, and we never had problems hearing her when she needed us in the night (the nursery is right next to our room anyway). Give it a go with Luca and see what happens.

Glad to know we're all normal :p Having sleeping issues here too. Anakin sleeps so much better if he is NOT wrapped at all & just laying on his side in our bed. Or ofcourse on me or even better DH. If he smells me he wants boob. We do have the basinette insert from our pram in the lounge room for days IF he wants to sleep. He is just so awake & aware for so much of the day. Of a night he is awake & feeding on & off from about 6.30 - 10.30 when he finally goes to sleep. Wish it was earlier as MJ is up by 6am every single day. Like you AliyahBlake, Anakin's muck up time is dinner time & the time I like to sit with MJ having cuddles & quiet time before she goes to bed......makes it so difficult :(
Just having the issue of one boob being so much sorer & fuller than the other all the time. Was going to post a thread asking (can't remember anything from having & feeding MJ :o) but he is awake again & wants boob.
Need to ask, how is everyone's bleeding going? Mine stopped about day 8 & i've had 2 bleeds since then, just bleeding for half a day & then it stops again.
Hope everyone is well otherwise :hugs:

My bleeding's still on and off at the moment (3 weeks down the track). I don't get any at night so I just wear a panty liner (just in case!). During the day I have what's like a light period, mostly brownish, but sometimes I still get a bit of fresh blood. It is easing though. When I had Aliyah I bled for about a month. Sorry if that was TMI everyone

Noah had his witching hour at around 8-9pm last night, nothing seemed to settle him - I think he was overtired. (well I WANTED to put him down for a sleep earlier, but he kept pooing so I had to keep changing him. He also manages to find his way to pee outside his napy somehow & soak his clothes! And that is when he is in disposables LOL! Then he wants to feed again... yada yada..) I usually find we have these marathons around dawn.. and the cycle can go on for what feels like forever! Hello - groundhog day! I know it exhausts me, so I can only imagine how he feels after the cycle has run its course. Wondering when you are supposed to tuck little boys willies downwards - his seems so little that I don't know if there is any point LOL.
What is normal for breastmilk poos? Some of his look a little like curds and whey or mustard seeds... while others look like pumpkin soup or mustard, & seem runnier. GOsh so many questions! My posts seem to be so long & so full of questions - sorry 'bout that guys! Re cloth nappies - how do you guys fold them? I am doing the triangle style, but wondering if there is a way to fold them that makes it easier for them to sleep - his hips seem to be raised so high up in the air, and I don't like this area to be higher than his head.. wonder if you can buy smaller nappies.. I bought a velcro Bright BOts one to try out, but that seems to be a bit big on him just yet, so won't buy any more for now. Would prefer to use cloth nappies during the day, and disposables for going out & for night time. Disposables just don't seem to look comfy around ther tummy area when you hold them upright, like it squishes them or something. DOn't mind me.. I might not even make sense.. have had a 20min nap since 4am & quite sleepy. xx
hi everyone!!
we had a really unsettled night last night. Decided to stop with the bottles at night and go back to me feeding him but he just wouldnt settle he stirred all night! im buggered today!
ok going to attempt personals
sandralee-Im not sure there is normal with breastfeeding poos  we've had everything from the elusive poonami, bright yellow, bright green, mustardish...whatever goes
We are using disposables with Robbie now but plan to move to MCN once we run out of disposables. We have made up our stash with bumgenius pockets as they are trimmer than a lot of others. We also have baby beehinds, greenkids, peapods and a few others but my brain escapes me at the moment.
RB-I made a thread about my bleeding  mine stopped and has now been on and off when it feels like it but doesnt warrant any special attention just need a liner on
Moops-Abby used to need to be held/rocked to sleep when she was a little baby but she grew out of it. After a few weeks/month when she had settled into everything and I had become settled we just put her in her bassinette and she went straight to sleep on her own! My advice would be just go with whatever feels right for you right now, it will all work out!
Rianna-we wouldnt let you leave us if you tried!
Melbryan-yup no tampons because of infection but god wouldnt it be so much easier!
Ok have run out of personals so will be back later!
Wow well I have just read through a few pages of posts and have completely lost what I was going to reply to everyone.
Thanks to those that replied about Jacob's crazy 4:30am hour. What a difference a few days make. Now he has a full on witching hour at 6pm. Once he is settled though he is ok and we have been feeding again at 10pm, 2am and 5am. After the 5am feeding his is pretty settled for another 2 hours which is fabulous. So it just looks like he has switched his times.
I am trying to have Jacob out of his room as much as possible during the day. But its so damn hot in Brisbane at the moment that I have to air-con the whole house (not very efficient in an old house) for it to be comfortable for him. Otherwise he gets pretty hot and bothered and wants to feed every hour (I think its more just needing fluids than actually needing a feed), because he doesn't feed for very long.
On Tuesday I met up with a couple of other mums with bubs around the same age and it was so nice to get out of the house and talk to people face to face.
Hope all your bubs are behaving themselves today.
Gosh.. you lot can talk... :raspberry: I cant keep up with it all..
I'm still bleeding and have good days and bad days with it.. sometimes its so full on and because of the aneamia I end up totally drained, i'll be glad when its finally over..
The last week here has been yurk, both little ones have had the flu..
Sandralee this is the best way I found to fold a cloth nappy especially for little boys. http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/public/articledetails.aspx?id=146 (i hope its ok to post the link, I actually found it through a bubhub link). btw how to I change the link so that I can write something else in it, instead of the actual link.. if that makes sense..
and finally had Rylans Silent reflux confirmed and I've opted to try Mylanta to start with, I'm so against drugging babies up at this age and would like to try and work through it with Mylanta and proper management myself, before heading down the losec track, and I want to research it a bit more... DS1 had the same problems and back then they didnt recomend drugging them, but that was a looooong time ago lol.. I've got to keep a close eye on his weight gain as hes in so much pain feeding that he comes off the boob screaming and fusses around something chronic, and isnt getting a full feed... We havent slept in lord knows how long and am feeling like a total Zombie, but my discomfort is nothing compared to what the poor little mite is experiencing.
Hope everyone is well and going along ok.. :hugs:

Better type quick - Connor is awake but cuddling with DH..... Soon he will remeber he is hungry and DH doesnt have nipples!
RB: My boobs are the same - I could quite happily only feed from one it fills up so quickly and gets very uncomfortable. Not sure what to do about it tho, I don't want to express incase it amps up the supply even more.
Well we don't seem to have a witching hour as yet and definatley no rhyme or reason to how long he sleeps for. We have one 5 hour sleep in the morning (usually from 4am) and then 3 hour sleeps the rest of the time. Thank god for Foxtel!
Glad someone else is getting cranky from wearing pads and clothes to bed - my boobs leak so much I'm also wearing my boobie bibs 24/7 and the girls need some air!
As for where bub sleeps - he is in our room in a bassinette all the time but lights on during the day and dark as possible at night (yep I've kicked the bassinette several times) for some reason he is a really quiet sleeper but sure makes up for it with his grunts and moans when he is feeding!

Tally, what initially made you think Rylan had silent reflux? I am curious cos Noah has been sometimes having 'gagging' sessions, which the paedi told us should disappear when he was a few days old. It is still happening sometimes though. When I got home from hospital I did some googling & lot of things pointed to silent reflux.. but in saying that, it is hard to diagnose anything with a newborn cos he could be exhibiting the symptoms just from being overtired, or having wind etc. He has had a really restless day today compared to others, as he hasn't slept longer than for an hour at a time since sunrise, and cries when I put him to bed most of the time. He sems fine during the night though, which makes me think he is just being all crankypants & windy, & nothing more serious.
***I want a refund - my baby didn't come with a manual..and he..<meh> confuses me...***
But on the plus side, he is SO DAMNED CUTE! xx

I am wondering about this.. cos I am expressing every now and then & I seem to have an over abundance of milk..which makes it really hard for Noah to have a slow relaxing feed.. comes out hard and fast, creating all kinds of wind probs & choking on it LOL.
Glad someone else is getting cranky from wearing pads and clothes to bed - my boobs leak so much I'm also wearing my boobie bibs 24/7 and the girls need some air!
I couldn't possible wear another thing on me to bed lol, so I hug a soft t-shirt when I go to bed. I am usually a nudie sleeper, so the pads and full undies are as much as I will wear. Gosh, even though our bubs are all out, our bodies and lives can still go through so much for a while afterwards huh!?
for some reason he is a really quiet sleeper but sure makes up for it with his grunts and moans when he is feeding!
Yeah I am glad Noah is a quiet sleeper - somtimes I have to check to see whether he is breathing!

I am sick of clothes and pads too !!! Sitting here with one boob hanging out bit sore so needs some air.
Made it to the shops today and got my Santa photos wasn't liking my chances and didn't like the dummy shots but had to put up with it by this stage they were being very co-operative and Ashton needed a feed. Really not feeling comfy about breast feeding in public.
Bought those wraps today and will use one tonight for Ashton.
Kayne has gone to a party so a bit of peace.
Can you get infections with tampons if you have had a C/S??? I have tried a tampon bit sore though don't know why, gone back to pads.
Have a peek at our first chrissy photos , Ashton and His brothers....
http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m150/melbryan/?action=view¤t=001_1.jpg
Ugh. Pads. I hadn't used them in years and they're so uncomfortable. My bleeding was really light and I was getting away with a liner which was good, but it's gotten heavier last day or so, dang it. I was wondering about using tampons too melbryan since I had a c-sec but wasn't game. And I've been sleeping in my bra too - to keep the breast pads in place. But I'm so tired when I lie down I don't even care.
Sandralee - where does Noah sleep? Can you raise one end of his bed a bit so his head is higher than his bottom? Just put a folded towel/s or nappies under the mattress one end to boost it slightly? That's a good trick if they have a stuffy nose too - helps them breath if on a slight incline.
Kiz - that sounds exactly like Xav's poos.
Well Xav has settled a bit. The screaming I've figured is from wind and being overtired -the pain keeps her awake and unable to settle. I've been making sure to use Infant's Friend every feed and I really think it is helping her burp and pass wind easier. Am having more success with the dummy too - if someone else is holding her. When she gets unsettled/windy, she wants to comfort suck, but only wants the boob with something in it, then gulps it down, but it's uncomfortable, then it comes back up. At least a dummy doesn't make the problem worse.
My friend also showed me how she swaddled her bub - I was putting Xav's hands/arms across her chest, but my friend put them straight by her sides . .and she slept for nearly 3hrs! What a champion!
Hope all your bubba's settle soon and the witching hours get a bit easier.

Thanks SHana, never thought of raising the head of the bed - he is in a snuggle bed in a cot, & seems ok with diposables but cloth nappies raise him up too much.
He is also spendig his first night in the nursery (in a different cot) so will see how that goes.. ho hum.. put him down for a sleep in there today & he was fine for 2hrs. Gave him Infants Friend for the first time this arvo, and he has been sleeping for 4hours! Steve has taken him out of the rocker and changed him, and he is still asleep LOL! Have been doing a lot of cluster feeds of an evening so he sleeps better, but tonight I don't like my chances of getting too many in. Oh well. Shana your baby sounds a lot like mine at the moment - he seems to suffer from wind (Im guessing, cos he rarely burps after a feed), then wants to suck cos he is uncomfortable (or hungry) but gets frustrated with my nipple, because it is probably painful to fill a windy tummy with more food! So hoping these magical drops are helping, he certainly seems relaxed and has barely moved the whole time. Normally he can be a bit restless. THe face he gave me when I put those drops in his mouth were "You b*tch" and then he held his breath with fear lol, I think he has got quite used to sweet breast milk being the only thing going into his mouth! :)

p.s. I messed up my post earlier - I was trying to quote, but somehow managed to mix up my replies with each quote. And I can't blame ack of sleep AS WELL as baby brain for my strange behaviour LOL xx
Hi girls. I had so many posts to read that I decided to multi quote so I could remember everything I wanted to reply to!! lol
Because Blake is doing so well, he doesn't foresee any major problems down the track.
AB - That is great news. I read your birth story today. I had no idea his start had been so tough. :hugs:
He had a good feel of her tummy too and has asked for an ultra sound whilst I'm feeding to see if everything is working properly in there. So we'll see how we go tomorrow.
Perrywinkle - How'd it go? Did I miss your post??
And it does feel kinda lonely knowing that everyone else gets to sleep peacefully while you could be running an absolute marathon! As cute as they are, there is always the unknown in the midde of the night to consider!
sandralee - Ikwym!!! I'm so glad others feel the same way. When I go to bed at night I get this butterflies feeling in my stomach because I don't really like being alone in the dark with the unpredictability.
But I'm real paranoid about letting her get overtired (gets ugly), so I cave and give her the boob.
Shana - It sounds like there are a lot of bubs who have to break this habit. Caleb was doing this every time he needed a sleep. I'm not keen on it becoming a habit at all. I've caved a couple of times and other times I've had the patience to try other things. Thankfully he doesn't do it every feed now. In fact, I think today was the first day he hasn't needed boobie, so :fingerscrossed: that it continues!
 Hi guys. I'm home! Just wondering if I can stick with you guys even though Luigi was bon on December 1st? You guys are like family to me!
Welcome home!!! We'd miss you if you didn't stick with us!
I'm worried that he's going to become too needy and attached to me but is it right to just let him cry and cry in his cot? He's only 11 days old today, I don't know if I'm being too tough.
Do you try to limit their sleeping during the day so they sleep better at night?.....I just wish he was a better sleeper! Is everyone's bubs in their room??
Hey Moops - It is a big juggling act isn't it? I'm inclined to agree with AliyahBlake in that I don't think a bit of a cry is bad for them at all. They need to learn to self settle eventually. I too think its good to not let them get all worked up though as you can get beyond the point of no return....so to speak!!! I don't limit Caleb's day sleep yet, but I do monitor it as if he has too much he will sleep less at night. Having said that I have woken him from sleep twice to feed him. I find if I do this he sleeps for longer stretches at night as he's being kept pretty full in the day.
We're doing the same with Caleb, but more modified because he' so young! We started at 3 weeks with Eden and she's been happily sleeping through ever since. You've gotta do what works for all though, and its not for some parents.
Anakin's muck up time is dinner time & the time I like to sit with MJ having cuddles & quiet time before she goes to bed......makes it so difficult.
Need to ask, how is everyone's bleeding going? Mine stopped about day 8 & i've had 2 bleeds since then, just bleeding for half a day & then it stops again.
I hear you, RB. I feel like I hardly ever spend time with Eden anymore. When I do, I wonder what quality it is as I'm usually tired. :(
My bleeding stopped 6 days after the birth. I only get browny mucousy stuff now. Its weird coz I bled for over 2 weeks with Eden.
Sounds like my night a couple of nights ago......not happy Jan!!
We havent slept in lord knows how long and am feeling like a total Zombie, but my discomfort is nothing compared to what the poor little mite is experiencing.
Your poor little man. How awful for him.....and you. I don't know what to say so I'll just give you a hug. :hugs: You so obviously need one.
Well, Caleb had a shocker two nights ago up every couple of hours, but last night he only got up at 3am following his 10:30 feed and I had to wake him at 7:30am to start his day!!! You just never know what the nights are going to bring......part of the scary factor I guess.
Does anyone else have a shocking hiccuper? Caleb gets them every day at least twice a day and they are so violent I feel sorry for him. I find sucking on the boobie gets rid of them thankfully.
Also, I've been meaning to post this for ages. Someone asked how much EBM to feed by bottle. I got this formula from another BH thread a couple of years ago when I asked about it. You multiply your babies weight in kilos by 150 (mls) then you take the answer and divide by how many feeds your baby has per day on average. Thats how much you need in the bottle. I hope that makes sense.
Anyway, I need sleep......chat soon.
Morning, I cant stay long - DH has organised another BBQ for friends today - I only got rid of my parents yesterday who have been here for a few days. I have yet to have a weekend free from people in my house since I came home from Hosp and I have to do all the work for it :hair:. So about to head off and get some food for today, oh! and he only told me at 5pm last night this was happening. MEN!!!!
We had a great night last night, Rylan only woke at 12pm and 3am then got up at 6am, which means so far the Mylanta is working, tho you would think I'm trying to murder him when trying to give it to him... hes even so more relaxed now.. :fingerscrossed: this stuff works and I dont have to go onto losec.
Sandralee I'll come back later and write a bit more about the reflux, but experience is what helped me identify it a lot earlier, with DS1, I had no idea I thought everything he was doing was normal as I'd never had a baby b4 until I was speaking to the child health nurse when he was about 8wks old and she advised me to go straight to the doctors because she felt he had silent reflux. Also dont dismiss a baby who sleeps well overnight as not being reflux because a lot still will sleep at night, DS1 did, so I thought whilst he was sleeping ok at night there wasnt anything wrong.. and that was wrong lol.. The do make a funny sound its a bit diff to choking, its higher pitched.. I cant really explain it... I've got a link to a pretty good website that I'll post later on for you if you like..
I better go, have heaps to do..
Have a great day everyone.

We've got pretty bad hiccups here but you can't burp a baby with hiccups so like you back on the boob.
Used my wraps last night they are really good thanks. He fed at 10pm woke at 3.15 and then at 8.30am feel like I didn't sleep much I must just lie in bed listening.
He is a really sweaty baby so have just left him in a t-shirt and nappy.
Ds2 has a bad nappy rash he screamed when I changed him I feel bad for him he is just so irritable, he's getting no. 3 and 4 on the bottom row of teeth.
Might have a lie down while no.2 & 3 are down no.1 will watch t.v. colour in and play thomas. Dh had 3 days off with us and had to return to work so I have been doing everything but feel my recovery after C/S has been good.
We are having FIL and his g/F over christmas but I told them to look after themselves I won't be running around after anyone. Tally I feel for you no wya I'm enertaining can't get out of my pj's most days. Off to dads to draw up some plans for our extension it's been a while since I did any draftsperson work. I trained at Uni for this but feel a bit rusty.
I am off to Jack Johnson I love him it's next March though.

Another hiccupper here. Had them atleast once a day when I was pg & he is exactly the same now. Feel so bad.
Nappies here range from mustard to sauce too lol. Such fun. He just did a mighty poo while DH was holding him......SO FUNNY  Better go clean him up :)
Had a great night here last night, bub slept from 10pm-5am then back to sleep till 9. MJ even slept till 7 which is the longest sleep in we've had in weeks!!
:wave:Hi all, sorry no personals, my brain is fried! Luigi has come home and I am so in love :cloud9: I had a really awful time in hospital because my milk never came in and Luigi ended up losing too much weight and on formula. I was pretty shattered because I really value breastfeeding and I love the intimacy of it. I haven't entirely given up and am expressing and taking medication and natural remedies to boost supply but no joy yet. I just feel like my body is against me in some way! Still, I have a really beautiful bub and now that he is getting some food he is much happier and more settled which is ofcourse the main thing. I hope you are all doing well mummas and bubbas.

Oh Rianna :hugs: I won't say I know how you feel. My SIL was the same though, wanted nothing more than to Breastfeed but never produced any milk what so ever.
Hello Yummy Mummies!
How u all doin? We went out last night with Luca and he chucked his first official tantrum! I fed him in the car and he went ballistic he was like a man possessed trying to feed and scream at the same time! I was quite scared!
Sleeping seems to be a little bit better, well maybe I'm just getting used to it. He still won't sleep alone so he sleeps with me in the spare bed and wakes up every 3 or so hours for a feed but generally goes back to sleep after a burp and a change. I think once he drops a feed and is more settled I will try the controlled crying in his own cot.
I thought me bleeding had gone away too but the last couple of days it's been quite red and heavy again. Also I think my stitches have come undone (sorry if TMI) I had a quick look in the bath the other day and it doesnt look great. I have an appointment next Friday to get it checked out, I really hope I don't have to get them redone I was in absolute agony at the beginning and don't want to go back to square one.
Luca was 9lbs 1oz when he was born and he was weighed at 10 days old and he was 9lbs 8oz! He eats so much, he's such a guts! Sometimes he gets so much milk in his mouth that he starts choking or just spits it all out and then goes for more, anyone elses bub do this?
Hope everyone is having a good weekend! :smiliedance:

hi everyone!
quick question for the experienced?
currently odette is awake/unsettled/will only sleep if it is on one of us from say 6pm until midnight-2am... is there anything I can do about this?
Rianna - I had a similar problem. I found the whole experience to be a bit um, traumatic really, the midwives werent a lot of help.
melbryan/rainbowbrite - hiccuper here too- she used t get them daily in utero and there's no change now...
there's nothing bad about it though is there?
I must admit I am jealous of some of you who say you have 4 hour + sleepers already. MAN!
The best we can do here is 2.5 hours with the occasional 3 hours.
I guess she is only 2 weeks old... am i being unrealistic?

Ouchie Moops that sounds sore I would be getting to the docs you don't want an infection.
I don't think hiccups are a problem mum keeps saying it means a content baby. I say mum you're so old school that's just a myth.
I know what non sleepers my last two were so I am am so happy I have a sleeper this time. I do find his bed and his bedroom he sleeps the best. I tried to get them to sleep anywahere but it was just easier for them to sleep at home. I find that if they have an upset tummy or are kicking their legs it's tummy pain and they just need a pat to bring up that last bit of air it seems to take forever. If Ash was a bad sleeper I don't know what I'd do as I couldn't look after my other too being so buggered.
Hope I stop bleeding this week it sucks haven't missed it for 9 mths.

Hi Girls
Hope you're all having a good weekend. I am absolutely exhausted at the moment. 4-5 hours sleep a night is just not enough!!!
We went to a friend's birthday yesterday afternoon and Sophie hardly slept all day so she is having a very sleepy day today. She doesn't seem to be feeding very well at the moment, though. She is only feeding for about 10-15 minutes on one breast and then isn't interested in the other, or I will get about 5 minutes on each side from her. She can't possibly be getting enough milk in that time, can she?? She is also being quite fussy on my left boob - pulling off all the time and yesterday her face was going all red and she was wriggling and pulling up her legs while feeding - I'm assuming this means she is in pain. So I bought some Infant's friend yesterday - for those of you using it, when do you give it? Before, during or after a feed?

Morning girls! Are you all still sane? These little babies vary soooo much, and they can change their patterns in a heartbeat - just to mess with our minds some MORE lol..
THose infants Friend drops have been helping Noah with wind, but he is still quite a fussy daytime sleeper. I also looked on the website for those drops, and was interested to find that they have antacid properties as well. YAY Decided to try putting him in his nursery for every sleep today, just to see if he is more settled & happier to sleep.. will keep the blinds open though. He is starting to look around too much when in the family room - after he goes to sleep I find that his eyes shoot open for a few moments, & if he catches sight of something he tries to keep his eyes open rather than sleep.
Tally - I would love that website addy pls - will do some reading on it!!
Nan - Noah gets hiccups so often, it's nothing for him to have them up to 7-8 times a day, lasting for about 15mins - wondering why he has them so often..he also likes to BF when he has them, and I wonder if that would make him take in more wind!
Melbryan - I am so jealous about Jack Johnson (in a nice way !!), as I adore his music & attitude. Have never got sick of his music one little bit, and play his stuff constantly.
Moops - my little man also seems to cough & splutter with mouthfuls of milk LOL, can't wait until my milk stabilises as I am sure it isn't helping the 'wind' situation. It doesn't deter him from gutsing back in though.
Riann - Did you have a shot at calling nursing mothers assoc hotline? They are 24hrs & help with everything BF related. I've called them twice now & they have been absolutely fantastic. Other things I would try, would be those lactation cookies (well it's worth a shot) - & I also remember reading that Stout beer can boost your milk supply - might taste like **** though. Expressing regularly is good, because it is telling your body to keep up with the supply end of things - so I'd be doing it for a little while every few hours, which is when your newborn would normally be latching on. I am not a midwife or anything, but just thinking of a baby's natural rhythm & how your body responds.
Formula : I bought a tin of S26 alpha gold this week, & contemplating giving it to Noah for his midnight feed to see if I can get a longer sleep period in.. have been struggling the last few nights to get myself out of bed in the wee hours to keep feeding him. I feel a bit guilty though so haven't done it yet. Also don't want it to interfere with BF, or to risk giving him an upset tummy. (or more of an upset tummy than he already has with wind lol) Are any other BF mums giving their bubs a formula every now and then? xx

Kittylou - on the website it said that you can give those drops anytime, before/after/or during a feed. I just do it when I can, which has varied. He screws his face up when I put it in his mouth, so I am more likely to give it to him before or during, so he can rinse his mouth out with some sweet milk lol. Noah is pretty much a non-burper, and have noticed since giving him those drops that he will now do some. I am SO HOPING that once my milk has settled down, so will his wind probs!
Snakeater - our little man prefers to also fall asleep on us <most inconvenient at times.. like um... when you haven't slept in ages.. middle of the night... when you just want to crawl back into bed & fall flat on your face for 3 days!> If we try to put him down before he gets into a comatose state these days, he wakes up. Also he sleeps with one eye half open now, and I am sure that this is to see if we dare try to put him dwn in his cot. In saying that though, I put him down before when he was half asleep, he made a bit of a noise & wriggled around, then got himself to sleep. I was use to having a baby who I could put down awake, but he has evolved into some new creature over the last few days. Er, like a little gremlin. A little gremlin who spraypainted me with poo before, a projectile that sprayed half a metre from the change table & totally covered me from my stomach down to my toes.. & the white carpet. I have never seen a baby poo with so much force & sound before.

N.B. Kittylou - Noah sometimes has quickie feeds and I was wondering the same thing - until I saw how much came out after I had a letdown, while I was expressing. Would be like us trying to drink from a tap running into our mouths, plus think of all the air that we would be taking in.. there is only so much stuff our stomachs could hold lol. The paed also told me to expect this sort of stuff for a while, until milk flow sorted itself out.
Nursing mothers Assoc say to hold your boob into a washer when you feel your first letdown (as it is the biggest one you get during the feed) & let the first part of the milk drain out a bit, then offer your boob back to your baby - so that they don't have to struggle with milk coming at them hard & fast.

I am feeling as exhausted as you Kittylou and Sandra Am I too ld to be waking in the wee hours of the morning?????
I might express a feed for Dh to do so I can get some sleep but I have the guilts if I don't do it all myself, I have been thinking of the FFeed too but have made a promise I would go 2 mths at least before introducing the Formula. I did the same with my last two sons. It's just me beating myslef up I think. I feel I am going good with feeding so I am trying to do it as much and as long as I can.
I used Infants friend to and did it at the beginning of a feed but found most of those things didn't do much for us. Ash burps pretty well but I can see him full up with air and his eyes roll around so I know it's time to pat for a little bit of time.
Ds2 is dancing around to my new dvd of Justin timberlake he does circles and then stands bouncing up and down and then laughs it is so cute .
Hi girls,
Kittylou - I have found the giving the Infant's Friends drops before the feed is the best. Xav burps so much easier then. I was giving them in the middle (during nappy change) but its' not as good.
And yes, Xav gets gob fulls of milk initially that she just about chokes on. Thanks for the tip re: the facewasher Sandra.
I sometimes will suppliment with Formula even now. Only one bottle a day atm, if that. Xav is fine with it (am using Heinze). Not only might it help her settle for a bit longer overnight but it has lots of nutrients etc. My diet isn't that balanced right now so I wonder just how many nutrients she's actually getting from me?
I've decided to express more and bottle feed for a bit to monitor just how much she's getting. Not that I think she's not getting enough - rather too much. The whole comfort sucking/gulping milk thing is getting to me b/c I think it's maikng her so unfomfortably full. So atleast if I know she's had 100ml, I can offer the dummy after that b/c I know she's not still hungry and I don't risk making her little tummy explode!
Have had more success with the dummy last night too, but am using the flat sort which she is taking too much quicker than the nuk? nipple sort?? Actually my sister did it . . .she stayed over and held Xav all night and bottle fed her EBM so I could sleep through. I didn't sleep as soundly as you'd think, but caught a few good hours this morning.
How are you Bris ladies coping with this heat?? Thank goodness for air con.

Perrywinkle - How'd it go? Did I miss your post??
Thanks for asking Nan. Haven't posted about it yet, no time LOL!!! We went to Paediatric Emergency on Friday so we could get a referal to a proper Paediatric Doctor (if that makes sense). No one in Emergency could help there and the doctor had really bad B/O so I wouldn't have been able to last much longer in those small rooms with him. They sent a report to my doctor who rang me up yesterday quite concerned about me and little Ali so we have an appiontment tomorrow with her and we'll wait till the Paed doctor rings me up too. They are concerned about her weight gain. She hasn't put on much weight so it might be best if I formula feed and B/F maybe but we'll decide that later on, what ever's best for my little girl, right!!!!
Moops - That sounds painful. Can you see your doctor any earlier??? Might get an infection down there!!
KittyLou - Alice is doing that too being fussy red faced, keeps spitting the nipple out. I just take her off and give her a rest for 5 mins then try and put her back on.
Anyway she's crying so must be off!!!

Have been missing for a while, have read but cant remember everything that I want to say.
Mel, your chrissy photo is just wonderful. The boys are so cute.
To the mummies who breastfeed. My little man will sometimes only eat from oneside for 5 mins at other times for 15 mins, never any longer though. We never manage to make it to the other side either. He either falls asleep or keeps moving his head so that I cant attach him. In saying that ( the midwife told me to go both sides) he has gained 1.5 kg in just 4 weeks. So I have given up on trying to get him to feed for any longer he must be getting all he needs in that short space of time. His sleep varies greatly to. Mostly he goes for 1.5 to 2 hours between feeds and sleeps in that time.
I wrap him also, find that helps. He is crying now so must go. Good luck to you all, they truly are amazing creatures, but so are all of you for caring and loving them so much.
Moops, at this stage I dont think you can spoil your little one to much, crying is his only way of telling you how he feels, good, bad or otherwise.
Hello everyone.
I hope you all had a good day and are not too daunted of the prospect of another sleepless night.
We had a great night last night with Caleb only getting up at 3am after eating at 10:30. He then woke around 6 to start the day, so not too bad I think.
Sometimes he gets so much milk in his mouth that he starts choking or just spits it all out and then goes for more, anyone elses bub do this?
Yeah Moops, Caleb gets this all the time. He just keeps sucking and lets the excess milk run down his face! I have to tuck a cloth into my bra or it gets a soak!! lol
currently odette is awake/unsettled/will only sleep if it is on one of us from say 6pm until midnight-2am... is there anything I can do about this?
The best we can do here is 2.5 hours with the occasional 3 hours.
I guess she is only 2 weeks old... am i being unrealistic?
Hi snake eater. 2.5 -3 hours is pretty good for a 2 week old. She'll go longer as she gets older. With the sleeping on you, try settling her down until she is almost asleep then put her in her bed. This is working for us.....might work for you. Caleb goes into the bassinet when he is just about ready to close his eyes and he does rest himself.
perrywinkle - I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.
Well, I've got to go tidy my kitchen......no joke.....I'm getting a bit sick of all the mess piling up in my house & having no energy to do anything about it is wearing a bit thin.
Have a good night mums and (even more so) bubs!!

Robbie used to do this while he was getting used to my letdown but now has the hang of it he gulps and guzzles it all down, realises after the feed hes had too much and throws up everywhere:laughing:
We went to a friend's birthday yesterday afternoon and Sophie hardly slept all day so she is having a very sleepy day today. She doesn't seem to be feeding very well at the moment, though. She is only feeding for about 10-15 minutes on one breast and then isn't interested in the other, or I will get about 5 minutes on each side from her. So I bought some Infant's friend yesterday - for those of you using it, when do you give it? Before, during or after a feed?
sounds like what Robbie does sometimes. He latches on then pulls off then on and off etc and sometimes stresses himself and his face goes bright red. I figured out that he needs a burp when he does this so i burp him then put him back on and he latches fine and stays there:thumbsup: he protests like nothing else when i take him away from the boob to burp him but is so happy when he gets back there
Are any other BF mums giving their bubs a formula every now and then? xx
*raises hand* Robbie has had a few bottles of formula. Mainly when I didnt know what his rash was, only noticed that it came up after bfing him so i put him on formula overnight while I expressed to see if the rash went down etc. I only bought the boxes of formula though-the ones that have the 120ml sachets in there? because I knew if I bought a tin it would be too much of a tempation for me to feed him more often with formula when I really want to breastfeed him. I formula fed Abby so I have that experience in the back of my mind
= A little gremlin who spraypainted me with poo before, a projectile that sprayed half a metre from the change table & totally covered me from my stomach down to my toes.. & the white carpet. I have never seen a baby poo with so much force & sound before.
Had to reply to this! Robbie sprayed John the other day as well! I was killing myself laughing! I had no idea they could projectile poo!
Have had more success with the dummy last night too, but am using the flat sort which she is taking too much quicker than the nuk? nipple sort??
We have been through 4 different types of dummy. We started with the nuk ones but they just kept slipping out of his mouth and i dont know about any of you guys but my nipple is not shaped like that  I've foudn the tommee tippee ones to be the best. The ones with the bulb shaped teat iykwim. Teat seems longer and sort of light bulb shaped. Abby uses these ones and we found theyre better because theyre harder for them to spit out of their mouth ... dont get me wrong they still can! when there is a will there is a way! we also bought the tommee tippee closer to nurture breastfeeding dummies but he isnt too keen on those. He will take them sometimes but the filthy look I get given is just priceless!
Well, I've got to go tidy my kitchen......no joke.....I'm getting a bit sick of all the mess piling up in my house & having no energy to do anything about it is wearing a bit thin.

I hear you nan!!! I have been going crazy all week because my house has been untidy! especially the kitchen! i know we've just had bubs and this is to be expected but it was doing my head in and actually getting me quite down. :hugs:
We have almost finished our christmas shopping here and I am so bloody thankful! It is just an added stress I dont want/need at the moment!
Anyone want to swap e-christmas cards? I only ask because I got John to make up ours last night as we left it too late to send out our normal family christmas letter. Anyone who wants to trade pm me your email address!
We have our house decorated with lights and it is so exciting! Abby absolutely loves them and runs outside every night shouting ooooooo lights and ooooooo more light and oh wow!! It is so gorgeous :cloud9:
Robbie is doing very well. He has been extending the time between feeds and cutting down his feeding times as well which is brilliant! we had a tough few days with him crying when I wouldnt let him comfort suck and cut him off after 20 mins each side but now he has cut himself down to about 10-15 mins each side so woohoo!! He started doing this on the weekend so im keen to test it out this week and hopefully spend more time with Abby as I feel horrible some days when im literally stuck on the lounge feeding robbie or changing him and she just isnt getting the hands on attention she needs.
We took Robbie out shopping in the moby wrap on saturday and were stopped that many times! People wanted to know all about the wrap, all about him..etc John loves it as women just flock to him when he is wearing it
Night times are ok here, I bring him into bed with us and feed him whilst lying down so I am still resting but not sleeping IYKWIM then when he is finished I pop him back into his rocker next to our bed. I change his nappy before feeding him at night and only feed off one boob instead of both of them. I find it works much easier to do one boob each feed at night and two boobs in the day. No idea why but hey if it aint broke!
Ok im buggered so am off to do washing and unpack the dishwasher! :smiliedance::raspberry:
Kiz - You're happy about washing and dishes???
I've had a few issues with trying to get Caleb to stop with the boob comfort suck, too. He's a lot better now. Hasn't needed boobie to sleep for a few days now. I'm finding if I hug him until he is VERY sleepy and put him to bed, he can do the rest himself. Sometimes he winges and I leave him for a bit and he goes off. A couple of times he's not been able to and has worked himself up & I've patted him a bit more and he goes off. I'm really proud of him. He's doing so well for 11 days old!!
Well, after I got off the computer last night I walked into my kitchen to find that Shane had done all the dishes (dishwasher AND hand washed stuff), wiped down all the benches and tidied up!! I nearly cried!!! There is still HEAPS of household mess for me to tidy, but it was such a load off my mind to see the kitchen done. I think I could count on one hand the amount of times he's done that (in 10 years), so I was so happy & gave him a big kiss and hug! Valentine
Good night here last night......Caleb did his first 5 hour sleep stint from 12pm to 5am. I fed him and he went back down until nearly 8am!
Forgot to say, I've put Caleb's details in the 'All about baby' thread and also put a link where you can see pics of him....and us! Couldn't remember if I'd given you guys the link or not! Sorry, I don't know how to post links to other threads, so you'll have to go to the 'when are you due' section yourself! I'm trying to do my birth story today......we'll see!
Also, a few things.....anyone else stop bleeding for a few days and then start up again??
For disposable users, what brand are you using & are you happy with it??
morning ladies! I just cant seem to find time to post anymore! I would do personals but Balin is attached atm So one handed typing for me:)
Balin is still jaundice his eyes are a little yellow and his belly is still a little orangeish, we have been sitting in the sun with him and he has his naps in the cot in the nursery which is very open and sunny he's feeding really well so i cant understand why its still there we have an appointment today about it hopefully it's nothing to worry about! Oh and i have a question about the heal prick Balin never got his at the hospi cause they discharged me early and a middie never came out to check on us either
do you have to have it done and if so would i have to got back to the hospital or can my doc do it? I have no clue cause we were well looked after with the other boys never had these problems:rolleyes:

 Normally no im not but this morning I woke up with a rush of happy housewife hormones (weird, must find out where they came from so I can never get them again ) and I was really keen to get the housework done, to have a routine going and feed robbie then put him into his rocker and off I go to play with Abby but Robbie had other plans. So far I have done NOTHING. Well that is a lie I got Abby up and dressed and got her breakfast...it is 12 o'clock and I havent eaten breakfast yet! Robbie is having bad wind pains. I started with the infant's friend yesterday but have no idea how often i'm supposed to give it to him? Every feed?
Nan , we're using disposables at the moment before we move into cloth when Robbie is a bit bigger. We're using the woolies select ones and theyre ok for the most part but they open up too much at the front for little boys IMO. As soon as he wees more than once the gel crystal things swell up so much that they move the nappy away from his skin IYKWIM so where I had previously pointed his willy downwards it now has all the room in the world to point up and shoot to the sky! So we've had a few very very very wet experiences. I wouldnt recommend them to anyone I know having a little boy but then again that could just be my son and his power wees!
Oh and yup bleeding would be regular then go for a few days and I would think woohoo but then come back again. It is still hardly here but just here enough to warrant attention IYKWIM.

I hope you get some answer re: the jaundice Lozie!! When I was in hospital with Abby and again with Robbie (and also after with the CHN) they kept telling me they were both jaundiced and I kept telling them that they werent that my skin colour is a nice olive, yellow colour and they have simply got my skin colour...their eyes werent yellow just their skin was an olive yellow like mine. turns out they didnt have jaundice after all...love how doctors dont listen to mothers sometimes hey!
No idea about the heal prick test. Im sure it is not mandatory as I dont think any of them are? it is a newborn screening test so I imagine it would just be a case of if you dont get it done then Balin hasnt been screened for those things but as I said I really have no idea. Maybe ask the doctor when you see them about his jaundice today.
Ok im off to try to get something to eat as dora the explorer has finished-meaning Abby is busting for some mummy time and Robbie is finally asleep :cloud9:
Take care ladies

Hi snake eater. 2.5 -3 hours is pretty good for a 2 week old. She'll go longer as she gets older. With the sleeping on you, try settling her down until she is almost asleep then put her in her bed. This is working for us.....might work for you. Caleb goes into the bassinet when he is just about ready to close his eyes and he does rest himself.
yeah ok thanks nan for the perspective. Guess i was getting a bit ahead of myself and her. nan - am using snuggies small size and these seem fine for her.
kizmet- i hear you on the getting things done (not). I just dont feel like doing stuff when I have a coupla hours free, I just feel like watching some tv or reading a book - essentially pryaing that she stays down for a coupla hours for her sake. I had all intentions of using cloth nappies btu these disposables are just sooooo convenient.
am in denial about xmas here - havent started it! don't want to either.

It's great when that happens, Kiz! Blake has also cut down to about 10-15 mins each side.....and I know he's getting enough as the breast is definitely empty by the time he finishes and he's very content and sleepy. He's put on weight for sure. When the community nurse came (Blake was about 2 weeks old), he weighed about 4.1 kg (bare weight). Then the paed checked his weight last week (at 3 weeks of age) and he was 4.4kg!! 300 grams in a week. He's starting to get the chubby cheeks, which Aliyah had when she was a bub.....so cute! I think he's going through the 3 week growth spurt at the moment, as we've gone back to the 3 hourly feeds on the dot (actually sometimes he's hungry before that!) At one stage he would make it to 4 or 4 1/2 hours. I haven't been topping him up with formula as I don't think he needs it.....I think my milk's pretty good stuff with the amount of weight he's gained!
I took Aliyah and Blake for their Santa photo today :noel: . I can't wait to get it.....they were so gorgeous sitting on Santa's knee together (Aliyah kept looking at Blake and smiling, and Blake was alert and not crying the whole time....couldn't have asked for better!).
I've finished my Chrissy shopping. I actually did most of it online....everyone's getting a gift voucher this year as I couldn't be stuffed fighting with the crowds of shoppers. I'm wondering what on earth to get for Blake, as he's scored pretty well of friends and family as far as clothes etc goes.
I would definitely go back and get the heal prick done as it tests for a few conditions (major ones) that often don't show up until later.
Just letting you all know that I've done my birth story. Check it out if you want!

Lozie all three of mine have had jaundice but Ashton had it moderately and after being discharged early they sent a nurse who did that prick on the foot and checked for jaundic eand they said just give him lots of feeds and now at 3 weeks his eyes are no longer yellow and feel like the jaundice has mostly subsided.
The dummy I used is the 'happy dummy' all three boys have taken to this haven't tried any others glad its' this one as it 's the cheapest one you can buy.
Ashton is doing really well had a little cry yesterday and nursed him while I watched a movie, he is so cuddly and I find it hard ot put him down.I find straight after he cries he usually does a big poo as he may have a pain.
We saw the CHN today and he has put on .5kg in one week and has ggrown 1.5cm since birth. It makes me feel like I am doing a half decent job with him but it makes it easier he is a great baby. Only thing is he is not that keen on baths and holds on to my finger for dear life.
:wave:Hi all! I'm sitting here expressing away waiting for the Maternal health nurse to show up.
Sandralee, thanks for all the BF tips but I think i've exhausted all the possibilities! I express like a crazy cow, put bubs on the boob, eat lactation cookies, take doperdidone (sp?), blessed thistle and fenugreek but not much is happening. I'll keep trying though!
Luigi is a bit random with his eating and feeding so far but his most settled is around lunch time and his feral time is around midnight  It couldn't be the other way around could it?
Who's using a dummy? I think we will have to resort to one because he gets pretty distressed at night and sucking might soothe him. This is okay, right?
Also, he gets very sweaty, anyone else's bub do this? We keep his clthing to a minimum but he still feels damp??? ahh, the questions!
Hmmm lets see if I get this right
Snakeeater: Connor is 2 weeks old as well and only sleeps for 2.5-3 hours between feeds so I think its normal - he is waking up starving so there is no way I could extend the time even if I wanted to.
Sandralee: Glad I havent met any projectile poos yet but if anyone has any tips for not getting peed on I'm all ears!
Nan: We are using Huggies newborn and no problems here and this boy can sure pee!
Rianna: I have the same problem with wrapping. He wont sleep unless he is wrapped (smacks himself in the face too much) and I am only putting him down in a singlet and nappy but he is still waking up really damp and hot. Any ideas girls?
I have a MAJOR hiccougher here! He gets them after every feed and it doesnt matter what I do differently he still gets them! I'm starting to think its his sneaky way of getting more milk and another cuddle!
We have had a couple of really tiring nights here, from 2am til about 10am Connor sleeps for an hour, feeds for 40mins and then sleeps for an hour. He must be having a major growth spurt or something as he is actually hungry and not just comfort sucking but damn I'm tired!
Really wanted to go and get a photo with Santa today but now I cant be bothered going out so hopefully tomorrow is better.
Hope everyone has a good day!

Exhausted!! Noah has had a witching hour (or TEN!!) since 5am - the longest 2 sleeps he has had have been for 30-40mins. It's freaking me out! Just keeps feeding, pooing, nodding off for a few mins, farting, pooing, feeding etc! I am home alone today so his timing sucks. Just poured a glass of wine & decided to keep hugging him for as long as possible. Maybe I need something stronger than Infants Friend for this kid! Have on;y had time to have an ultra quick shower & peg a load of washing out. Dishwasher has a blocked pipe, bad timing!!! If you dont see me back on bubhub later I have run away from home.. & I am majorly turned off having the 3rd child Steve & I have been talking about! EEK! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sorry to all those exhausted mummies hope it settels down for you all soon,
I was wondering when does the food you eat affect your breast feeding milk. Straight away or next day or so? I may eat an Orange and wondeer if it is too acidy from it and gives him too much wind???
I do have camomile tea each day and it is s'posed to calm their little tummies this is just something I do and it can't be too bad as he is pretty contented. Worth a try.
AliyahBlake
10-12-2007, 16:13
Yeah, Melbryan, I find the chamomile tea good, too. I have some before I go to bed at night, and it not only relaxes me, but I'm sure it helps Blake as well.
Blake has just done a bit of "tummy time" and he absolutely loved it! His little neck is so strong already as he kept lifting his head to have a look around. His legs are strong too....he was doing this little frog swimming action and actually managed to push himself forward a tiny bit....it looked quite funny!
Vespera - talking about projectile poos.....Blake did one on me this morning! So gross! As for the peeing while changing their nappy.....my sister warned me about this and advised me to always have some old face washers on standby to cover the willy during a nappy change. She learnt the hard way when her little boy peed in her face when he was a baby!!

oh man, I feel for you. that's tough. I was up from 3-7am this morning. i thought that was bad enough.
Lots of :hugs: for sandra, snake eater & Vespera. It sucks when you can't get any sleep. Hang in there. Its just the beginning......there is a light at the end of the tunnel. They do get better.
Only thing is he is not that keen on baths and holds on to my finger for dear life.
Another one who doesn't like baths here, mel! I was thinking of changing the temperature slightly to see if he likes it a bit colder or a bit warmer. I'm doing exactly 37 degrees atm and thought it might be that.
I'm not sure when our food starts to effect the breast milk, but I have read that alcohol goes through in an hour so if you have it and don't feed for an hour you can be guaranteed bubs will get nothing. So, maybe food is the same day? Not sure.
I've been really lucky. I'm just eating whatever I want and waiting to see if it effects Caleb, so I can stop eating it. So far so good and I've eaten two different hot curries and some pretty spicey stuff so :fingerscrossed: he can tolerate everything.
Rianna - Good on you for working so hard on the BF. It must be pretty taxing on you. :hugs: I don't mean to be negative at all, but at least if you do decide to go with the formula option you can know you did all you could.
Extra milk vibes for you!!! :babydust2:
Hi ho hi ho......its off to feed I go!

Good idea to alter to temp of the water. We worked out really quickly that Connor likes his baths warmer (around 41 degrees) otherwise he doesnt enjoy it and screams like a banshee. The midwife said that temp was fine as long as he was happy especially as the water looses degrees quite quickly.

Hi ladies
Sorry, i've just read 3ish pages & can remember nothing :o No memory anymore.
On the bath thing, Ani loves it really warm & really deep so he floats. I'm only bathing him about twice a week though. Gave him a shower with me last night & he loved it. Was easier as MJ was in the bath so DH was in there to undress him, hand him over & take him when he was done. He passed out afterwards too, seemed to relax him more than the bath does.
On the sleeping, I think Anakin sleeps better if he is in my room with thte door open. That way he is still hearing all the normal noises but can't see me. I have a gate up at the door to keep MJ away.
Bleeding seems to have re-started here too. Just when I get excited about it stopping :(
On the nappy thing, i'm using both woolies select - not great, & Babylove newborn - fantastic!! Fit great, last all night.
Have taken so many more pics recently will have to share soon. No santa pic yet, been waiting for baby bonus so show. Put the papers in the DAY he was born
Best be off, MJ calls & I can here him stirring.

We got our baby bonus last Friday so you should be this week sometime ( it took us 2 weeks).
When I got the Santa photo done they gave me a disk with it on so I got as many copies for my chrissy card as I could.
I hear ya about the baby bonus RB they are stuffing me around even with my FTB:banghead: I've had to fill out more forms and now we are waiting... didnt get FTB on friday like I was supposed too so things are a little tight just going off Dh's wage the last week or so cause he earns so little.
On the Jaundice the doc said Balin's is very mild.. Jacy and Caleb both had it but it never went this long, she gave me a thing for pathology so i have to duck down there today when Dh gets home and she said they "should" be able to do the prick test.. bloody stupid hospital should have sent a midwife out like they were supposed to and I wouldnt have to drag Balin around.
Baths Balin loves them! He's so cute I'll get Dh to film it tonight and i'll post it if i can figure out how too:confused: He makes little monkey noises and his eyes roll and we have been getting a few smiles too soo cute:biggrin:
Balin is still sleeping really well, but the most annoying part is he wants to feed for 3hrs before bed he starts at about 6 or 7 pm and wont stop till about 9 or 10 depending on when he want to start feeding, I hope he grows out of that soon it's very tiring and (.)(.) get so sore after the first 2 hrs:dizzy: lol.
Anyhoo I must try and get some house work done today been so slack lately and ants are infesting my kitchen so ithink it's time for a big clean out!
Take care:wave:
Morning all, no sleep here! :hair: Luigi seems to settle like an angel all day and have decent sleeps but then sook all night. Any tips on changing his sleep/awake habits?

Lozie I hear you on the sore bobs at night. Ani feeds on & off from around 6-10 :hair: Thank god I then get a break for a few hours. Isnt it amazing how they can stuff up the ftb so much when we already get it
Rianna, i've tried to start a feed, play, sleep routine. I feed for however long he wants (20ish mins normally), burp, then put on a play mat till he gets whingy. Then change, try to top up with more feed & then off to bed. Fingerscrossed it works.
Here's some pics i've taken recently :)

Bugger! We actually lodged our forms at the FTO and got the bonus in our account 3 days later, which was a bit of a surprise. I remember it took a good few weeks to get Aliyah's, but we posted ours in then.
Aliyah is driving me absolutely insane again today......I don't know if she's deliberately being noisy for attention, or what's going on but I keep telling her to keep her voice down while Blake's asleep and she just won't do it! :hair: She's also doing the arguing and whinging and whining today. I'm at the end of my tether with her. Can't wait til Christmas with the family so the grandparents can entertain her and keep her out of my hair!

Booked in for paed visit at 4pm - they want to eliminate reflux. Hopefully my parents will b here by then, as I don't feel brave enough to do a long drive alone with him in this state. Tried putting him down for 5 mins so I could have a shower but he wokeup screaming..so typing this with one hand lol, before I begin the slow process of getting ready with one hand free, and hopefully have us both ready to leave here by 3pm. Amazing the things you learn to do one-handed, isn't it? Blake has a habit of starting to carry on right when I'm about to eat dinner of an evening, so I end up cutting everything up first and eat while I hold him (either that, or hubby and I eat in shifts, but it doesn't always work as Blake settles better when I'm holding him!)

Nicole - MJ has had a day like that. I'm ready to kill her. God that sounds bad & i'd never EVER do it, but i'm exhausted, Ani has done nothing but feed & cry all day............all i've done is cry & yell all day. I just want to go to sleep & not wake up :( As much as I hate giving kids medication, i'm so tempted to try some infants friend or something. He's been so spewy & had so much wind for the last few days.
Good news is that the money will be there tomorrow so I can FINALLY get some food, bra's & clothes to fit both he & I.
Thats cool kate, I thought you might have
Sandralee, I hope you get some answers :hugs:
:smiliedance: MY HOUSE IS TIDY!!!! :smiliedance:
Woohoo! I shipped Eden off to mum's for the afternoon so I could make some headway with my house & its done......not clean mind you. Just tidy! Although, I do wonder how long it will last. Eden untidies faster than I can tidy that's for sure. Now to wrap the remaining 4 pressies before Caleb wakes up!
Kizmet & AB - Tell me about it!! Eden's behaviour the last few days has been shocking. I feel like all I'm doing is threatening her with smacks. It's awful. I'm trying to remind myself that she has a lot to deal with, but my patience is wearing thin with 2 kids!
sandralee - Hope your appointment goes well. Let us know how it went.
The midwife said that temp was fine as long as he was happy especially as the water looses degrees quite quickly.
That's what I'd heard. I'll give it a try.
Luigi seems to settle like an angel all day and have decent sleeps but then sook all night. Any tips on changing his sleep/awake habits?
I do pretty much what RB does - a feed, wake, sleep routine (so that he doesn't need food to sleep). If he falls asleep during a feed, I try to keep him awake so that he gets a full feed to discourage snacking & comfort sucking. Caleb eats every three hours, even if he's not hungry (although I'm noticing he has a little body clock now and has dropped into 3 hourly by himself) so that he has a full tummy at bed time. The idea being that he will sleep for longer! If he is heaps hungry he might feed earlier than I expect, but its all good. Also try practical things like keeping the room dark at night and well lit during the day. Maybe use a different type of blanket or wrapping style for night to give him a cue that this is the long sleep!! I wrap Caleb and put on a light blanket at night. During the day he is just wrapped. Hope this helps.
Oh don't remind me about FTB forms girls! We haven't done ANY of our forms yet!! We're waiting until Shane is on holidays at the end of the week, then he'll get stuck into them.
Hi Ladies
Well my MIL is here, but it isn't the break I thought it would be! She is sleeping in the spare bed, which is where I usually sleep with Luca when DH is going to work so I've been sleeping on the couch either holding Luca or with him in the pram!
She was supposed to go tonight but DH has convinced her to stay another night! Thanks DH! We had an awful night last night he woke up every 1 1/2 hours and I just couldn't settle him, I wish I knew what I was doing wrong cos I feel like I can't take much more of this. :hair:
I'm going to have a talk with DH tonight cos I don't mind doing the night times with Luca when DH is working but we seemed to have slipped into the same routine when he's not and it's not on!
I was expecting my MIL to help get him into some routine, like getting him to sleep in his cot but she's been useless I feel like I've just been entertaining her - I'm so tired!
Sorry for the rant girls! Hope everyone is doing ok.

Moops, you poor thing! You would expect that your MIL would offer you some help! Maybe you should say something....I don't know.....it depends if you feel comfortable enough to speak to her about it. Or ask your DH to have a word with her.
Actually my Mum stayed with us a couple of weekends ago, and she was sleeping on the sofa bed right near Aliyah's room. I thought that was great as she could deal with Aliyah if she woke during the night. I was wrong! Aliyah woke with a bleeding nose one night and my mum slept through the whole thing :hair: So I kind of know how you feel. If grandparents come to stay when there is a new baby in the house, they should expect to help out at some stage!

My mum would be the same Moops :hugs: Thats why I won't take her "help" when its offered.
Wish me luck ladies, i'm out on my first solo mission with 2 kids today  Going up to the shops, then the clinic, then to a play centre so MJ can blow off some steam with some lovely bubhub kiddies (& I can have a nice hot chocolate with the bubhubbers :D). THEN we have to pick up DH from work & probably go to another shopping centre......i'm mad I know :p
Feeling a little better today, not as teary. Just been worried about Ani, he seems so spewy & unsettled lately.........Parenthood is too stressful :hair:

The babys not the problem its the other two. They are absolute terrors and Ds1 is being so defiant, NO to everything and answering back well he is just so naughty. I check em out the back so I can have some peace while I feed.
Had a decent sleep 11.45-5.30am Yay a good boy he is young Ashton. Except Ds2 woke up screaming about 3am if it's not one it's the other.
I will have to go off to the shops to get a layby out get another licence lost my wallet again, or one of the boys have hid it. Want to go and get Ashie's birth certificate from the post office but have no ID.
FIL is coming to stay and his girlfriend on the 19th so fuin and games from then on he will be here for 3 weeks. I just hate how they try and tell my kids off when I am here. That's my job.
Hope everyone gets to the bottom of why their bubs is unsettled.
WLess than 2 weeks to chrissy.:tree::xmastree:
hey everyone,
feeling a bit buggered and sore today!
The night before last Robbie slept for 6 hours straight and it was bliss! I had so much energy yesterday it was so good! Last night...not so much. He just wouldnt settle. I was trying very hard to not involve dh at all last night but in the end I just couldnt do it, he was driving me mental!
Anyone else's (o)(o) stop hurting then come back with a vengeance? my nips hurt like nothing else it is horrid and I want to cry everytime he attaches. He attaches properly and I have no damage but they just hurt like buggery! Only for about 30 seconds then they settle except the left one hurts more than the right and for longer. Then after the feed I get shooting stabbing pains in my boobs. It kills! I was nearly in tears last night! Things settled down boob wise and I began to really enjoy breastfeeding last week but this week I hate it , it hurts so much and I dread every feeding time:o If this is going to be constant pain for the rest of our breastfeeding relationship I honestly dont know how much longer our relationship will continue:gloomy: My first milestone to reach is 6 weeks then after that 3 months so I will tough it out and see how we go by 6 weeks then harass the doctor at our 6 week check up.
RB good on you for getting out! I get so stressed out at the thought of it! John and I asked his mum to come shopping with us last weekend so we would have extra help with the kids! Although I know if I put Robbie in the wrap he will sleep on me the whole time but you know me I just stress about everything!
Moops-so sorry you have to deal with that! You really would think your MIL would want to help out.
Mel- i hope the boys settle for you :hugs: Abby was a right monster last week, I wanted to curl into the foetal position and cry in the corner but this week is being an angel thankfully!
OMG! Less than 2 weeks until Christmas! Sheesh! That's a bit freaky!! I HAVE to get my Christmas cards out soon.
Moops - Good luck with your talk to DH. Hope it goes well/went well. Sorry to hear about your MIL. Its hard when the reality doesn't live up to your expectations. :hugs: to you.
RB - You aren't mad. You go crazy when you stay at home all day for too long. Either that or get lonely. I'm off to my mum's group Christmas break up tomorrow and its only my 2nd big trip out. I'm so looking forward to it though as I had a 'feeling lonely' day yesterday. Its not nice.
mel - I hear you on the bratty toddler phenomenon!! Not fun is it?
Anyway, I'm getting outta here to spend some time with Eden while Caleb is sleeeping.
Kiz are you engorged(sp?) when Robbie attaches? That happened to me for a while My nips get really engorged and hard right before a feed I found if Balin attached when they were like that it killed but if u have a cloth or something handy and express a bit before you let him attach it helps.
I know exactly what mean Mel the boys are the same Jacy is pretty good tho but Caleb oh my dont get me started he is getting to cheeky for his own good and nothing I do helps he just laughs at me when he gets in trouble so i have been leaving him for Dh to deal with.. he is his father after all!
Balin is great a few messy poos last night all over Dh and this morning in the bassinett just lovely :barf:. His hair is starting to lighten too soon it will be blonde like the boys and me:D he may look like Dh but he will have my hair lol and maybe even blue eyes would be nice if it looked like my children actually belonged to me:p:laughing:
Well have to run i need to have some brekky. Take care!

Oh best of luck RB sounds like a full on day.
OMG! Less than 2 weeks until Christmas! Sheesh! That's a bit freaky!! I HAVE to get my Christmas cards out soon.
Oh 2 weeks WOW I'm just glad Xmas isn't at our house this year. I've just posted all of our Xmas cards yesterday. Took me about 4 days to write 50 odd cards though. Still trying to wrap the presents without DS seeing and the only time I can do that is at night but with little missy being unsettled I have no time.
We had a good night last night down at 8.30pm up at 12 then 4am then 7am so was a good night. Pitty DH kept me up with his snoring (he got back from the mines he always snores the first night home - exhausted!!)
Any way she is crying so must go.
Hi all,
Having a pretty good day today really, DH has been the biggest angel ever  and I just love him more and more each day. As for my little man, I could watch him for hours (except at three am when he's screeching!) Still no breast milk here :crying::hissy: so I'm pretty close to giving up.
Nan, thanks for the tips re: the sleep routine. We tried something similar and actually got some sleep last night. Problem was I could hardly let myself believe he was alseep most of the night and kept checking him
Moops :hugs:Sorry your MIL hasn't been much of a help to you, sounds more like a hindrance! My mum has been pretty hopeless, it's as if she has never raised a child before. Still, she does all the washing so I can't complain!
Kizmet, hope the boob pain settles down, it sounds like agony! I must admit I'm still jealous of anyone who has been able to breastfeed at all but you would not want it to be a distressing experience :hugs:
Rianna - Glad to help. Now all you have to do is relax!!!!!! :p Easier said than done, I know.....especially with child no.1!!
Kizmet - Sorry to here about the breast pain. What a bummer. I can understand your freaking out every feed time. I had the exact same thing with Eden and it took around 12 weeks to be completely gone. At around 8 or 9 weeks it was more bearable. Hang in there, hun. It WILL go away.
I've just posted all of our Xmas cards yesterday. Took me about 4 days to write 50 odd cards though.
Holy cow! I really had better get cracking. I have to do about that many!!! I did manage to finish wrapping the last of the pressies today though. Yay!! :smiliedance:
Just had to say HOW MUCH WASHING AM I DOING NOW??!!!! :crying: Unbelievable!!! I'm also going through nappy wipes at the rate of knots!! Aahhhh, I'd forgotten what these days were like!
The reason I asked about the nappies is that Caleb is a side sleeper. I put him on his back and he almost always rolls onto his side. The problem is that the wee runs out of his nappy via the leg and onto his clothes and blankets. Runny poo does this too. Its been happening around twice a day and its exhausting changing everything!! I'm using both Babylove & Huggies and am having the same trouble with both. I think its just my boy unfortunately. :( I went out today and bought a waterproof sheet for my bassinet. I think I'll put one on the cot too. Unfortunately that doesn't take away the problem of washing the clothes.
Hey girls!
I'm mighty perky today! Had 2 good nights with the boy and its amazing what a good sleep does for your outlook on life. :smiliedance:
Took Connor out today, put him in the baby bjorn for the first time as he hates the pram and the baba sling and we have a winner! He just flopped his head onto my chest and slept the entire shopping trip! So yay for him.
Got a photo with Santa as well which I am excited about so once I pick it up on Saturday I shall scan it.
Pfft Christmas Cards! I admire you girls but its not happening in this house - I have presents fort the ones I love and everyone else can have an sms on the day :p
Love, hugs and perkiness vibes for everyone! :babydust2:

Hi girls!
My parents arrived by 3pm yest so Mum was able to come to the paed visit with me. THANK GOD! Turns out he has reflux & also a bit of wind from the distress side of things. Dr put him on zantac twice a day, which tastes disgusting - you should see his face when I sneak it into his mouth! He screams and holds his breath. He also has to have some mylanta at each feed until things settle down. I actually got to sleep in 2hour blocks last night, which still isn't back to how long he WAS sleeping for. but an improvement. He has been sleeping for most of the day like a little angel again.. boy what a difference medication makes! Would never have thought it was reflux though as he isnt very spewy & has put on about 600g above his birthweight. So maybe it is that 'silent relfux' where he has comfort fed a lot to ease the pain. Oh well, either way, I feel more human again. Could rarely put him down for very long, and it's nice to be able to see him so relaxed again. Dr said we may not notice a difference until after 24hrs but I have noticed a difference already.. now I just have to get him out of the comfort sucking pattern. I didn't think newborns really had any patterns for a while.
Bleeding seems to ease off and start up again, but seems to have dropped off again. Only wearing a really loose comfy gstring to bed with a small gstring mini liner - thank god the full undies and thicker pads are gone for good.
Using huggies nappies and some cloth nappies - Noah seems to still manage to soak a disposable but I think that happens due to doodle placement. He drinks a lot though so may even be because of that.
Finishing off this post nearly 4hrs later, & Noah has continued to sleep - have even managed to change & feed him a few times while he has slumbered on !!
Big hugs & good night sleeps to all - fingers crossed that alll our babies let us sleep and recharge! Love Sands xoxoxoxox:hugs:

Glad to know all toddlers are feral not just mine. He stands on the lounge jumps and laughs at me when I tell him to get down.
Kiz are you sure they aren't cracked underneath and it's hard to see??? I have this with my left boob and can only stand to feed off it once a day. I hear you it absolutely kills.
Is anyone taking vitamins??? I am tempted as I am feeling pretty tired and want to perk up definitely need some iron.
All you girls seem set for chrissy, Just got to send my cards off and wrap the last few pressies. I am very tempted to assemble all pressies so on the day I am not cutting wires and boxes off toys. There is such a mess and the kids can swallow lots of the bits on the packaging. Don't know when I'll get time to do that though. Will put the :xmastree: up on the weekend.
So glad you got to the bottom of it SL as not many docs give you meds so it does make a big difference been there and done that. Here's to your little bubs having better sleeps.
Anyway take care all, get some sleep tonight,

Would they bleed if they were cracked? They dont bleed or anything, i got the doctor to look at them today and she didnt mention cracks. Might get DH to inspect them in a bit. We went to the doctor today because I suspected Robbie of having oral thrush and i was right! Doctor told me to not feed him while he has it and I have the sore nipples rather express every feed for him. Really not looking forward to 2am expressing then sterilising  Possibly she told me to do this because they are cracked?:detective: No idea! But if the expressing makes my (O)(O) hurt less im all for it!
Robbie is going through a growth spurt so was feeding every hour today and not settling inbetween! im buggered!
Anyway am off the the land of  hopefully for more than an hour as I have no idea how im going to work that one with expressing!
Oh and Mel im still taking my elevit i have left over from being pregnant

Kiz, not meaning to sound like a know-it-all nurse (Craig often accuses me of that!! :D), but I find it quite strange that the GP told you not to BF while Robbie has oral thrush. What usually happens in this case (and this is what we advise people who ring the nursing advice hotlines I work for) is that you can buy oral Daktarin (or equivalent) thrush gel and put some on your nipples before each feed - that way it's treating the thrush on your nipples as well as some of it going into Robbie's mouth when he feeds. Many early childhood nurses recommend the same thing....and this way you can still BF. Might be worth discussing it with your ECH nurse to see what they think. Is Robbie having any sort of other treatment for the thrush? As for the sharp pains you're getting in the breasts, it could be cracked nipples, but I think it's more likely from the thrush.....it's a classic symptom. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth!
As for the nappy situation, I remember using Huggies, Baby Loves and Snugglers when Aliyah was a bub, and they all had major leakage problems! I began using the Mamia brand from Aldi when she was a toddler, and never had a problem after that (they held her night wees like you wouldn't believe!). I'm now using them for Blake and have only had 2 leaks (one because I didn't make sure his willy was pointing down, so he weed out the side, and two because I didn't have the nappy done up tight enough.) I recommend if you have an Aldi store near you to give the Mamias a go!
I'm with Vespera......Chrissy cards are the furthest thing from my mind this year. Usually I send about 40 or 50 of them out, with a little letter to tell everyone about our goings-on throughout the year, but I just couldn't be bothered with it this year. Those who have email might get an e-card, but that'll be the extent of my Christmas efforts this year! Maybe a little bah humbug, but everyone will get over it!! ;)

We did it :D
Went out for hours & the kids were great!! Took MJ to Kmart (had bub in the Moby) then the clinic. Anakin is 4.1kg already  Big boy he is!! Then went to a play centre & MJ had an absolute ball. THEN went & picked up DH from work & went to westfields. Ani wouldn't go in the pram for long & I couldn't carry him as I needed to get measured for a meternity bra FINALLY. But all in all they were great, no sleeps for either but they slept well last night :D The only bad thing was Ani had 2 explosive poos that went everywhere :hair:
Kate, might be worth a call to the ABA or even a clinic visit. Could possibly be thrush.
ETA - just read your update. Not good hun, hope it settles soon.
I get pains but only in the right breast & its more of a constant ache than anything. Thinking I have a duct that gets backed up as it eases straight after a feed.
Perrywinkle, my DH is a snorere too. Always the way, bub sleeps & you can't cause of the noise :hugs
Nan, I was thinking the same thing. All I seem to do is wash & fold, wash & fold. Not fun. Also nan, what about putting a terry or fluffy pilcher over the nappy??? Might hold in tighter so leaks don't happen??
Vespera, i'm the same. Don;t thave the time or energy to sit & write out cards this year.

Thanks for the advice hun! I asked about things to look out for and asked her if the pain could be caused by him giving it to me and she said no the only symptom I would have is itchiness (which I dont have) and the only way I would get pain is if I scratched!
She gave me a prescription for nilstat drops but when I went to the chemist they said that the manufacturer is out of stock so I wont find it anywhere and the only other option i daktarin oral gel but they recommend not giving it to babies under 6 months as it can clump and clog in their throat. I said 'well what am i supposed to do let him live with thrush and have it get worse and worse" so I bought the daktarin and have been putting it in his mouth after a feed. Had no idea I could put the daktarin on me though :detective: I was heading down to the CHN today but now it is pouring I dont know if we will make it there.
Im going to keep expressing today as I want to see if the pain subsides if maybe there is a tiny crack in both of them that I cant see but then again it is so much easier and more convenient for me to quickly feed him and get back to business than to sit and express for an hour! IYKWIM
Am so annoyed at the doctor! I could have not wasted all that precious sleeping time expressing and I could have no woken up soaked in breastmilk this morning
Mammia nappies are brilliant! Im so over the woolies ones at the moment it just isnt even funny any more. Only thing is I still have boxes left of them! Could probably sell them but at the same time once the woolies nappies are done we want him in cloth and with this weather the way it is at the moment I dont think it is a good idea because our dryer is at my mums house as there is no room for it at this house so I dont know when I would ever get nappies dry. Ah decisions decisions :detective:
The doctor's was an interesting experience yesterday! It was fine until i20 mins into the half hour wait. Abby didnt want to sit in the pram any more so started to cry-not scream just a really sad sob like cry I felt horrible but had robbie in the moby wrap so couldnt really do anything. Then she had a hissy fit at the doctor for touching her baby
Anyway ive been up pumping since 6:30 this morning so im buggered  will be back later chickies!
Rb glad to hear everything went so well while you guys were out yesterday! :smiliedance: you give me hope! :hugs:

A&B that sounds right witht the oral thrush thing. I had it last time and they gave me Daktarin but didn't tell me to express.
Can I ask what does Oral thrush do to you or bubs???
Kiz I have a cracked nipple but no bleeding I just knew I had it because it would absolutely kill when he latched on I would be kicking my feet while he attached.
RB well done for getting out, I am glad they were good for you.
I am another Aldi nappy convert I use them with all my kids and they have always been really good. Just make sure you get the right size I found if the were too big they leaked.
A great sleep here Ash selpt from 11pm till 5.45 am I fed and then got to sleep till 9am. All were good boys last night.
I only ever make 20 cards for christmas with a photo and a letter and the announcement cards I haven't snet yet but will this week.
Take care all,
Mel-that feet stamping pain is what I have every time!!! but on both sides! Will it heal while he is still attaching? or will the pumping help that to?
im not sure what thrush does to be honest , Robbie just has a bit of white on his tongue, lips and inside of his cheeks

Havent tried Aldi yet for him. How many come in a pack??? I love aldi for MJ though at night (she's only in nappies at night). Never had a problem with them :s
AliyahBlake

RB - it's $16 for a pack of 56 small nappies - they are the 3-6 kg size. It's the same price for the next size up which I think is 4-10kg but there's only 48 nappies in that one (I think!)
Melbryan - Thrush is a yeast infection (candida) - I don't think it really does anything much except cause mum and bub major discomfort. Oral thrush is basically a coating of yeast on the tongue and mouth, which if you scratch it off, causes rawness and/or bleeding of the flesh underneath. It can easily transfer to the breast during BF. It's pretty much the same as vaginal thrush (not nice!) You don't have to treat it with anything from what I understand - it can just go away on it's own, but that takes up to 2 months! In other words, it is better to treat it as the symptoms tend to go away within a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if it can actually lead to more serious infections.....I guess that's a possibility if there is broken skin around the nipples or in bub's mouth, but I guess if you catch it early enough that shouldn't happen.
Kiz - I have heard that Daktarin is not recommended for babies under 6 months, but if you are only popping a little on your nipples, then transferring it to Robbie's mouth that way, it should be fine.
yup daktarin isnt recommended for babies under 6 months because it is a gel that can clump and get stuck in their throats but we are using it sparingly and monitoring him for an hour after it is put on.
I didnt want to use it but when nilstat is out of stock there really is no other option and im not going to let him just keep having it until they get it back in stock.

The Baby Bjorn what a good idea. I have one from DS and never thought to use yet. I thought she'd be too small but I will give it a go now. I could put her in it whilst I vaccum LOL!!
Is anyone taking vitamins??? I am tempted as I am feeling pretty tired and want to perk up definitely need some iron.
Never thought about taking vitamins I've just bought heaps of red meat lately to increase my iron levels.
Is any one else finding it difficult to put their bub to sleep during the day? I'm finding she wants to be held to sleep and my arm feels like it would drop off. I can get her 3/4 of the way to sleep in my arms then put her down but if I put her in there wide awake she screams.
What is everyone else doing????

Perrywinkle Anakin will only sleep on me during the day. I feel so slack doing it though cause MJ gets so little attention as it is. I just have no idea what else to do at the moment as if he's down on his own he gets so upset. I pick him up & he calms down instantly.
I hve no idea what else to do though :( As I type this he is asleep on my chest inside my dressing gown :p
I think it must be a newborn trait.. or maybe just our newborns :D, Rylans not much better and prefers to sleep on me during the day.. Probably my fault cause I let him too lol..
I'm in the process of buying some mcn's to try and am thinking of swapping and using them during the day, disposables are making a mess of Rylans skin.. :(
I'm back on Elevit plus another Iron tablet due to the Anemia, but have always taken Elevit on its own during breastfeeding.
Rylan is 4wks today, its unbelievable how quick the times gone.

I know, Tally, it has gone so fast......almost a blur!! I forgot that Rylan and Blake were born on the same day.......Happy 4 weeks, boys!!:D
Blake has had a rotten day today, the worst he's been since we brought him home from hospital. I must have eaten something that didn't agree with him (I think it was the mustard I had on my sandwich yesterday) as he's been burping and chucking all day, and screaming the house down...very unlike him! At the moment he's asleep thank goodness, but I hope he's not unsettled through the night. Poor baby!:(
