I know that compared to some other women, reaching six months of breastfeeding is nothing.... but I just feel really proud of myself:smiliedance:
We had a few problems (again not too bad compared to some) but I feel so happy that I struggled through. It's really been worth it!
DS was premmie (induced at 34 weeks) and I didn't get to feed him until a week and a half after he was born. I really felt like it was such a hard slog to get my milk establised, all that painstaking hand expressing for tiny drops of colostrum, and then 'milking' in the hospital expressing room with a machine surrounded by other women. Going home without him and waking up twice/three times a night to express and never having quite enough was fairly stressful too.
Then two or three weeks after I bought Hudson home, I got the chicken pox! So I had to go back to expressing and start bottle feeding, and was advised by my GP to comp feed with formula, which I now know was not the best for my supply:thumbsdown:
I'm also a insulin dependent diabetic and when my sugars are 'out' my milk production goes down!
When I could start feeding again, he was not too keen on working at the breast after getting it so easy on the bottle, so that was another struggle! Which led to very badly cracked nipples and almost mastitis. :banghead:
But now, we're powering! 6 months was my initial goal (my dream goal!) but now I'm hoping to reach 12 months!
Just thought I'd share with my fellow bubhubers.... since none of my childless friends seem particularly excited by the feat!:D
Thanks for reading,
Madi
