I know that compared to some other women, reaching six months of breastfeeding is nothing.... but I just feel really proud of myself:smiliedance:

We had a few problems (again not too bad compared to some) but I feel so happy that I struggled through. It's really been worth it!

DS was premmie (induced at 34 weeks) and I didn't get to feed him until a week and a half after he was born. I really felt like it was such a hard slog to get my milk establised, all that painstaking hand expressing for tiny drops of colostrum, and then 'milking' in the hospital expressing room with a machine surrounded by other women. Going home without him and waking up twice/three times a night to express and never having quite enough was fairly stressful too.

Then two or three weeks after I bought Hudson home, I got the chicken pox! So I had to go back to expressing and start bottle feeding, and was advised by my GP to comp feed with formula, which I now know was not the best for my supply:thumbsdown:

I'm also a insulin dependent diabetic and when my sugars are 'out' my milk production goes down!

When I could start feeding again, he was not too keen on working at the breast after getting it so easy on the bottle, so that was another struggle! Which led to very badly cracked nipples and almost mastitis. :banghead:

But now, we're powering! 6 months was my initial goal (my dream goal!) but now I'm hoping to reach 12 months!

Just thought I'd share with my fellow bubhubers.... since none of my childless friends seem particularly excited by the feat!:D

Thanks for reading,
Madi

 Well down, you should be very proud of yourself! :yelclap:

As for the 12 months of feeding, stay positive and I know you will be able to do it!:D

Congratulations Madi!! Hudson is a lucky boy to be getting all that loving goodness from his mumma!!
My DD is just over 6 mths and like you I am still bf, that was my initial goal, and now like you I want to try to continue to 1yr, or until she self weans. I had sore cracked nipples, poor attachment but nothing compared to your experience, I am just glad I had the support of ABA, my LC, DH, family and especially all the supportive bubhub mums whose support and advice really got me through those really difficult first two months!! Thanks everyone!! Z :yelclap:

Congratulations. It's a great feeling isn't it.
I was the same as you, I really wanted to make that 6mth mark then continue to 12mths. I had a few problems in the start to. Can I just tell you that for me from 6-12mths was a breeze compared to the first 6mths. So hopefully it will be easier for you too.
Godd luck

Madi, you are an inspiration to us all! Well done :yelclap:

You should be proud of yourself. I haven't had half the problems you have, but I know how satisfied I feel when I stick it out through a 'rough patch' and we're feeding well again.

There is just nothing as wonderful as giving your bubs a good feed. That dreamy, drunk look on their face. I LOVE IT :D

You go girl!

Madi,
I have just weaned my daughter at 12 months and it is both emotional (She doesnt need me anymore!!) and liberating (No more maternity bras!!) I have 3 kids and know i wont have anymore so it is bit sad knowing i won't ever breastfeed again, however i know that i gave all 3 the best possible start in life that i could. You did too.
Well done!
