Just a quick post to let you all know that baby Annabel Grace Lauder was finally born - 9 days overdue - on Wednesday 13th April at 4:21pm.
I avoided a medical induction this time - so the acupuncture and raspberry leaf tea must have done something! My waters broke at about 00:30 on Wednesday morning and the hospital asked us to come in. There were no contractions happening but I decided that hospital was probably the best place to be and settled in to read a book and watch some daytime TV whilst I was checked for blood pressure, temp, etc. Contractions started at about midday and were getting painful by about 2:30pm when the midwife took me back down to the birthing area.
Contractions were now coming thick and fast, just 2-3 mins apart and at 3:30 I was only 3cm dilated so asked for an epidural to be arranged. As usual, this is not an instantaneous thing - anaestetist had to be found, drip line needed to be inserted... The registrar came to fit the drip line but everytime she started inserting the needle, I had a contraction and moved so I now have four holes in my hands and arms from unsuccesful attempts! She was just attempting the 4th try when I just had to push. Baby Annabel was born about 4 mins later - just as the anaesthetist walked in!!!
So...no drugs, no pain relief, but a healthy, happy baby and just one stitch. We're back at home now and baby has settled well. Her older brother and sister are delighted and so far have only cuddles and kisses for her. And she's still in that 'sleeping lots - I've only just been born' phase, which is great for me!!
A fast and furious labour - going from 3cm dilated to born in 45 mins - but worth it in the end!!
