View Full Version : No HB heard- very concerned.
According to my U/S, I am due 27th August 06 which puts me around 13weeks and 5days preggie. I went in for a check-up yesterday (at my GP) because I've been cramping over the last few days, so I just wanted some reassurance.
She examined me and found that I seemed to be further ahead than what the U/S suggests (closer to my original edd from my last menstrual cycle- which has me at about 16 weeks). Then she tried to hear the heartbeat with the doppler- but nothing. She was looking for it for what seemed to be ages- the longest 5 minutes of my life. She then said its ok, that its probably too early to hear it, but I still feel very uneasy and uncomfortable about it.
Do I have a reason to be concerned? When did you first hear your baby's HB? Should I see another doc. My next hospital appt isnt until 6th of March which seems like a lifetime away...I'm just so worried.:crying:
I wouldn't stress too much.
I went to the dr at 16 weeks too and she couldn't find a heartbeat. I got very paranoid and a few days later went to a different dr and told him my worries. He said if he didn't find it, he would send my for a scan to ease my mind. Funnily enough he found it straight away.
Try not to worry too much. I would see another dr if it is really concerning you.;)
Do whatever you can to ease your mind. Make appointments asap if you can, although there may be nothing wrong, you probably won't stop worrying until you hear that little heartbeat - I wouldn't either.
I'm sure everything will be fine. I'm due 24th Aug, so understand where you're at. Fingers crossed for you.
I certainly wouldn't worry about it. At a few of my checkups my GP couldn't find a HB. Usually it just means bub is positioned in a way that makes it difficult. Having said that I would go to another GP to put your mind at rest. This is something you are going to stress about no matter what other Bubhubbers say...so do what those motherly instincts are telling you.

the midwife couldn't find Gus' heartbeat at around 16 weeks either, but my ultrasound a week later confirmed everything was ok. I wouldn't be too worried about it, i'm sure that your bub is ok. The midwife even had trouble finding Gus' heartbeat when i was in labour with him 6 days past his due date!

They couldn't find Noah's HB at 13 weeks with him, luckily I had just been for an US so I knew he was fine. It's just hard when they are so teeny tiny to get an accurate position

We went for our appointment at 16 weeks with the midwife too, and she said that we might not be able to hear the heart beat!
Dont stress, if you are really worried, as to go for a scan! :-)
My Ob refuses to check for babies heartbeat before 19 weeks,
she says its too hard to guarantee you'll hear it and then mothers worry for no good reason....
She says the best way to know bubs is going ok is mums fundal height growing.
Try not to worry (easier said than done i realise)
Don't stress, but do what you need to ease your mind.
Today I had an appointment (19 weeks 2 days) and the doc had trouble finding Nugget's heartbeat, she got a small US machine out and found it with the machine, then went to get the heartbeat just so I could hear it and in that time Nugget had moved again and we spent a long time trying to get her to stop wriggling!!! When they're so small they just keep on moving so you never know where the heartbeat will be and it's so hard to find :)
Thank you for the reassurance and advice ladies. I took your advice and went to see another GP who said pretty much what you all were saying, that it is highly unlikely to hear the heartbeat so early on. I feel slightly more comfortable after getting a second opinion so I will sit patiently and wait for my hospital appointment.
Will updae you then with good news hopefully!
