View Full Version : Negative Blood
Last week when I was spotting I went to the hospital and they gave me an anti d injection. Last night I started bleeding quite heavily. I have an appointment to see my gyno on Monday but I am not sure if i need to go and get another anti d injection now because I have started bleeding again????

I'm RH- as well, although i have never had any bleeding in my pregnancies (so far...touch wood) so i'm not really sure...but i would ring your hospital/midwife/OB/GP/whatever and ask them.
good luck

I'm O Neg. I'd see your doctor and find out, because you have to have the injection within 72 hours of the blood crossing over, or bleeding.
Might be good to check that all is well with bubs too if it was heavy bleeding.
I think after bleeding you should get the injection. But as other's have said check with your Dr!

I would give either your doctor or midwife a call it wont hurt !
I am also Rh negative but had no bleeding with the injections so i cant really help in what they would advise to do but i would assume you would need another but im possibly very wrong.
Make the call at least then your mind will be put on ease.
Wishing you all the best :)

Hi, sorry to hear about your bleeding, I'm O neg and have had a lot of that too. You probably won't need another injection as the other was so recent, you're probably still covered. If they are in doubt about whether or not you're still covered, they can do a blood test to check your levels. Don't stress if they don't think it's necessary, I've bleed a few times and when they've checked my anti-d levels were fine, so I didn't get the shot. Hope it all settles down for you.
All the best,
Katie
Hi girls. THanks for the replies.
I did end up going to the hospital (thought I had better go back to where I got my last injection) and I didnt need to get another injection because I only had the other one recently.
I did however get told that it sounds like an 'inevitable miscarriage'......
Eventhough I thought this would be the case, it was still horrible to hear. SHe gave me a referral to get an ultrasound done, but there were no appointments until the next day. Anyway, when i got to the ultrasound place the lady said that we would go straight and do an internal ultrasound to make sure everything had 'passed'. So she inserted the HUGE rod thing and shock horror, there was a heartbeat!!!!!!!!! I dont think I have cried so many tears of joy before EVER! There is a healthy heart beat of 150bpm and the baby is measuring at 7weeks 5days which is exactly where i thought i was!!
I know that I am still not out of the danger zone, and that most people who bleed go on to have a miscarriage, but at the moment there is a heartbeat and that is fine with me :yelclap:

Hi everyone
I'm also O negative & had bleeding about 2 weeks ago. Spotting for about 5 days.
THe doctor didn't mention anything about injections. Can you guys explain why you need them & what do they do? I'm pretty sure my husband is A negative.
I went to the doctor as i was concerned & he said that as I am eight weeks, if that was a miscarriage (& there really wasn't alot of blood - mainly dark brown "stuff" and one day a bit of bright red normal looking blood) he said that I would have been in alot of pain and I wasnt. He knows my blood type is as above.
I'm pretty sure I was just really stressed & overworked at the time.

I agree you should talk about this with you Care provider. It is a serious event during pregnacy and can have implications to subsequent pregnacies if not delt with.
This topic is alos discussed on this thread.

Hi there
Thanks for your replies. So sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I really hope it works out for you one day. I wonder what is causing them?
My MIL had 7 miscarriages back in her day but still had 3 beautiful children. All I would say is keep being positive - they'll find out what's causing them and hopefully you'll have some beautiful kids of your own.
My husband has gone for a blood test & then we're waiting for the results & then we'll figure out what to do.
Thanks....
Sharyn
