Sheer Bliss

The MIL decided a political discussion was a good idea yesterday  . And sat there saying a few things that i thought not quite true (but had to bite my tounge - of course :p ).
There will always be points of view on 'we don't want liberal/labour in power as this WILL happen - it happened last time. Her point was interest rates - if Labour are in power then interest rates will go up - back 20 years ago interest rates were 18%, and that was when labour were in gov. It will happen again if they get in. (her words NOT mine). I did a couple of very basic economic subjects at Uni - and learned that these types of things are often cyclical, and there are MANY other factors that come into it. As far as i am concerned what she said is a Myth - one that people throw about to scare others into voting the way the do. Interest rates are probably going to keep rising - no matter who our government it.
Have you got any more common myths that get thrown about at election time? And your reasons behind them? I am probably guilty of believing some of them myself - it would be great to hear others POV to help us all see through them.
