View Full Version : Psoriasis
I am an unfortunate sufferer of this skin condition (on my scalp and in my ear canals) and was wondering if there was anyone else who had this, or knew of anything I could try on it.
I have tried tar shampoo, steroid-based lotions, the sun... almost everything! It drives me crazy as it is so itchy. I have flakes all over my pillow and on my shoulders. I especially hate it when people go, "Eww... you have dandruff!" If I did, it would be gone. I would rather dandruff than psoriasis actually.
I am also worried that my DD will get it. My dad and sister have it, as well as my aunty and cousin. I believe that it is hereditary.
Does anyone have any info about this?

Hi Polony
I suffer from psoriasis too,on my scalp only luckily....the only things that help me are Elocon lotion (same as Novasone),on prescription, though you've probably tried this already?
And Nizoral 2% shampoo is another I have had success with,it's aimed at dandruff sufferers but my doc recommended I try it,and it did help a bit. It's around $16.
Sorry if I've told you about things you've already tried, maybe someone else has some ideas.:)

Me too!!! i hate it ive had it since i was 7 years old and i scratch it so much some times i make my scalp bleed! I find that Elocon lotion is the best, it does burn a bit when you first put it on but i goes away after about 5 mins. Im always scratch my head, but i just cant help it, im sure people think i have nits cause i scratch so much!
I love that burning stinging though! Dyeing my hair does that and it's like a nice big scratch! Ahhhh!!!

My dad has it on his knees and elbows and my uncle has it all over his back. He uses a heat lamp that cost $$$$$$$ but it helps and it is the only thing that does, still it is no cure for it and it only reduces it.
I suffer from psoriasis too, luckily it's on my scalp too. I've scratched it so much i've made my scalp bleed and i've been asked if I have nits  Two things worked for me, 1. That lovely smelling Tar shampoo  and 2. Try not to get stressed too much (I know easier said than done at times) Sorry I couldn't be more help

My DH has it on his scalp and in one ear. His mom has it as well.
he's found that the special shampoos and whatnot only make it worse. He's found that what helps the most is to only wash his hair a couple of times a week and to use Pantene shampoo, specifically the new kind that is supposed to make red hair more brilliant.
i have it too on my scalp, back and belly and i attend a clinic in Sylvania in sydney. They specialise in natural lotion and vitamins that help me.It halso has alot to do with what you eat.stay away from foods high in acid and eat lots of green vegies. Also don't sress! I have had it for 5 years - pain in the behind.....well maybe not quite the behind:)
Having been a hairdresser for many years I have come across so many products claiming they will help. Not many do but one lady once told me about this product...I then told everyone who asked and all the results came back the same ....problem gone.
It's ummmmm...
cow udder ointment from the vet:p
Don't shoot the messenger lol:thumbsup:
I am at the point where I will try anything!! Cow udder ointment included!!
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I was running low on ideas...
