Hi my name is Kelly and my first bub Ben was born on 4th Jan so he is 7 weeks old this week. He was fairly small - 3.14kg but is now a hefty 5.270kg - loves his food!
The nights are going OK - he settles quite well and wakes about avery 3 hours for his tucker and generally goes back to sleep OK. I'm having trouble getting to sleep on his own during the day - he loves sleeping in the baby sling but this means I don't a rest at all. I put up a post about this in the sleeping/settling category. Are any of you experiencing this? I only get about 5-6 hours sleep a day and usually that is in 2 x 3 hour blocks at the most. A daytime nap would be fabulous but only achievable at the moment on the weekends when my husband is home. Look forward to chatting with you all about new baby issues.

Hi Kelly,
My daughter was born on the 5th of january I found at first she would feed and then sleep for 3hrs but as she is getting older she wants to sleep less during the day but is sleeping about 5-6hrs at night. She goes down at about 9pm sleeps 5-6hrs then has a feed sleeps another 3-4hs has a feed then will sleep 2 hrs if i am lucky and then she only sleeps for 1 hr blocks during the day but it is much harder to get her to sleep during the day, so i think it may just be that they sleep less during the day as they get older.:banghead:

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. Kelly, Ben has been doing a similar pattern as your daughter over the last few days. He sleeps in his bed from about 8:30 at night now (takes a couple of efforts to get him off but not too bad) and then doesn't wake up until about 1 a.m. One night it was 3:00! which left me with too much milk and I had to express some for comfort. He then usually wakes up again at about 4 or 4:30 and then I put him back again until 6:30. Compared to our initial 2 hourly feeds this is a massive improvement! Initially he had big problems with sleeping during the day in his cradle - he would only sleep on me in his sling. This has improved now as well - I don't put him in his bed, I wrap him and put him in his rocker. This means that when he wakes up slightly I can rock him for a second and back to sleep he goes. If he was in his bed, when he woke slightly that would be it - he would realise he was on his own and would start crying. The other day he spent 3 hours asleep in the rocker but usually it is more like an hour and a half. Things are becoming much more peaceful. Hope everything is going well for you guys as well.

Wow my daughter is so the opposite. She is perfect during the day - feeds every 3 hours and sleeps one and a half to two hours between feeds!! At night though, she is usually up every 2-3 hours so i am normally up 3-6 times a night and sometimes she is up for 2-3 hours at a time!! It is exhausting to say the least!!

Hello again,
Well I decided to bite the bullet and try the Sleep Right Sleep Tight book to help get Ben to sleep in his cot during the day. I know that ideally this is what I want him to be able to do. Yesterday was the first day of it and was quite frustrating - most of my time was spent trying to settle him in bed. He grizzled a lot (and outright screamed quite a bit too!) and only got 2 x 15 min sleeps in the morning but in the afternoon he admitted defeat and had a great big sleep in his cot. When he woke up I could settle him back twice - which was unheard of previously.
Last night was perfect (well as perfect as things can be for a boy who wants to be fed 3 hourly -I had thought we were extending this out a bit - but he has changed his mind again apparently!) and he is in his cot asleep at the moment (about 8 a.m.)
Has anyone else noticed sleep problems got worse around the 7-9 week mark now the baby is more alert? Ben had an absolutely shocking weekend - hardly any sleep at night for 3 nights in a row and would not go to sleep in his own bed - had to be held. This was after his 2 month immunisations - did any of you notice a big change after your baby's shots?
Cheers, Kelly
