Hi there, Has anyone out there got any good tips for a cold? My 10 month DS has a lovely snotty nose and dry cough. I also think he might have a sore throat as I have just started to get one. The poor thing had very little sleep last night (and me either!). Any advice would be most appreciated.

Dymatapp for a dry cough is great!!

You can use a vaporiser too!

Oh and some vicks on their dummy handle...so they breathe it in...helps clear their nose.

Just some of my thoughts off the top of my head!

My ds had a cold last week. One of the things I did was to raise one end of his cot slightly so he sleeps with his head slightly elevated.
I didn't take him out either. I just thought when I've got a cold I don't feel like going out so I expect bubs to be the same.

I have same advice. We purchased a vapouriser which I put on at night - ds fondly calls it the "bubbler" due to the noise it makes. I also use dimetapp, but I do try to limit it just to night times as I'm not big on medicating the little ones, but if it helps them to get a good night sleep then its worth a go. I also use a couple drops of Breath Easy essential oil on his pillow. And some vaseline on his little nose to help sooth his skin from all my over zealous wiping!

I'd say use some vapour rub on his chest, throat and back (I put a singlet over it so it protects clothes).

You can also get a little pump thing to suck snot out of a blocked nose... saline nasal drops aren't medicated (just salty water) so you can use those to clear out a stuffy nose too.

I also put a thick firm pillow under the head-end of the cot, to raise the chest so the mucous doesn't gather in there all night... making it easier to breathe.

People use humidifiers... I personally can't think of anything worse than breathing in thick, humid air... so I haven't used one.

If you can, carrying him around upright in a sling/carrier might help during the day too, especially if you have to go out.
