What do you say? Rockmelon or Cantaloupe?
I always thought that they were generally referred to as Rockmelons in Australia :confused:
I call it Rockmelon
Americans call them Cantaloupe...

My DH is from the mainland and he seems to think that they are called Cantaloupe :confused:

Cantaloupe isn't Australian... so I don't use that term. It's like using "Mom" instead of "Mum." It's just not Australian, so I don't use it.

I never knew people called rockmelons Cantalopes.. sounds REALLY odd to me lol

To me Rockmelon is light green and Cantloupe in light orangeish colour. But I think they taste the same :o

This is what we call the both of them never heard of cantaloupe before,as someone said it sounds like an animal :laughing:

Ditto. And that applies in WA & Qld - I can't speak for any other states...
Oh, DH is from Vic & says rockmelon too...

Definitely only heard Rockmelon here in WA
Back home in England we call them Cantaloupes, Honeydew, Galia and prob other varietial names too...not just American ;)
The same with mandarines...we call them satsumas, tangerines, clementines, mandarines,etc etc depending on the variety...I have noticed here most people refer to them as mandarines whatever the size, variety etc.
But then we say courgette and aubergine too! oh and red and green peppers (my poor children are going to be soooooo confused!)

I'm from Victoria and we've always said rockmelon.
