OK, I've tried a wool soaker now and I just don't 'get' it. It's kinda weird and DD smells of wee when she first gets up. It's clever that the soaker dries quickly and smells fresh again - but apart from that...er, what's the point of it?! Am I missing something?

Was it lanolised before you used it? It really shouldn't smell unless its been used for awhile and needing relanolising.

Yep, I lanolised it myself - maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I used a spray lanolin - perhaps not enough on there?

If you're using it over night it will most definitely smell, mainly because it's absorbed some of the wee. Once aired, though, it will not smell. If it still smells once it's been aired then you need to relanolise it.

Wool is more breathable than any other nappy cover (PVC, PUL, Fleece). It's good for sensitive skin, warm in winter/cool in summer.

Ok, thanks...maybe I will appreciate it more in the summer then.
