Hi all  Just curious about this as I had NO periods for (gosh, trying to remember) I think about 2 years after stopping the pill, and then fell pregnant with the help of Clomid and now Erin is 7 months old and I got my period this week!!!!
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a one-off? I wonder if my hormone levels / insulin resistance are normal again? Any clues, imput, comments would be wholly welcomed!!! :D Thanks!

I have. I never ever had regular periods. Then when I got my period back when DD1 was 11.5 months and it came back regularly every 34-35 days, until I fell pg with DD2 (all by ourselves this time :p ).

When I had an ultrasound for DD2, the sonographer said that my ovaries were definitely still polycystic.

I still haven't got it back after DD2, hopefully it will come back soon, because I want to start charting before we TTC #3.

I was told to be careful with contraception after having a baby because PCOS will be 'overridden' so to speak, by pregnancy hormones. What I actually found was that breastfeeding also kicked my body into a normal rhythm - when i started to cut back on feeds with DD1 (a clomid baby) I fell pregnant before having a period. Then after DD2 i had two normal 35 day cycles then fell pregnant with DS. I think the effect of the hormones can wear off after time, but they might work for a while! Good luck!!

All over the shop before having #1, much more regular after #1, moreso again after #2, and still regular after #3 once I finally started cycling again.

Wow......the things you don't get told!!!!! What draught said makes sense as I've just stopped breast feeding about a month ago....
Thanks too, aardvark - it will be interesting to see what happens with me

Good question, I was diagnosed with PCO took nearly 2 yrs to fall preg naturally for number 1 - number 2 I fell preg with straight away while still Bf, I went back on the pill and now 4 yrs later wish to have another but am wondering would I have PCO again or would it have gone away, I have had 2 cycle since stopping the pill but my last one was 38 days, I am a little worried about it as I dont want to be trying for ages to find out I have PCO again, this will be the 3rd month of trying and I was thinking that if nothing happens this cycle to go and see a Dr considering my history - do you think thats a good idea or should I wait longer??

Hi Rach79  thanks for your input - I admire your patience persevering for 2 years TTC with bub#1!
Even though TTC for 3 months isn't really a long time to be trying for most people, I would probably be off to see my doctor considering your history, especially if you're not keen to wait for years again. If you do have PCOS you may be referred to a specialist or advised to take some fertility assisting drugs to help you TTC......and these can take some time too.....
I wish you good luck for whatever you choose to do :fingerscrossed: :)

I was diagnosed after 2 miscarriages and finding cysts on my ovaries that I had PCOS.... i was put on diaformin and told to go on a low GI diet which I did.

I fell pregnant within a month and now have a healthy 11 month old.... I breastfed for the first 3 months then my milk dried up and my periods never came back when my son was 4 months old I fell pregnant and I am now 23 weeks pregnant due 17th Feb 2008.....

HI lisacotter  thanks for your input! I too was told to change my diet to Low GI which I think helped in conunction with clomid.
 Wow though! - I often wondered while breastfeeding if it was possible to fall pregnant again (without having had a period) but then thought - (scoff) "who are you kidding!!!" plus I never really understood the ovulation part without a period.....but the human body is still a mystery to me
Congrats on your pregnancies too, by the way, I hope everything goes well for your second.

leilani07 - the ovulation without period is how it all works - periods come after ovulation - that signals the body to build up the lining in the womb. If no fertilised egg implants then the lining sheds - and that is a period. (in very simplistic terms). So breastfeeding 'accidents' like mine and lisacotters happen all the time because we ovulate and catch it the first time!!

Thanks draught for expaining it to me :o That does make sense - I'm sure I did know that once, but my brain has totally embraced the "pregnancy hormone amnesia" and has not let go! :p

thats great to hear, I was about to post a question on getting pregnant again after having baby 1 with pcos. we took clomid then a break and we fell naturally after that.

we want to try again for number 2 but I still haven't got my period. She's only just started solids.

so you guys were still breastfeeding when you fell by the sound of it? I was worried that I might not ovulate till I stop feeding.

I got pregnant after I stopped BF DD1 at 10 months, so she was 11 months when we conceived and didn't even know it! I discovered I was pg when I was 10 weeks along, I mean what were the chances considering I have Pcos right? It can happen  good luck :wizard:
