View Full Version : (golden) staff infection??
hi there,
Just got home from hospital with our newborn yesterday (5 days old) and noticed two blisters on her body. The nurses there took a swab and they are going to have it tested for 'staff' (not too sure of the technical name for it). Apparently it's a bacterial infection of the skin. They seemed concerned which in turn had me start to worry. Looking it up on the internet, there is so much contradictory advise, I'm not sure what to think! Has anybody's baby had this and can it get serious? The nurses seem to think that antibiotics will get rid of it - but on the internet, someone's baby died from it!!!
Please help in easing my mind...
Thx

My little boy had it at about 2 weeks old around his genital area...
We unfortuantely didnt get a proper diagnosis straight away and was told it was nappy rash!!!!!
As soon as my doctor returned from holidays we went straight to him and he diagnosed it with one look.
Peter had to go on antibiotics and then it cleared up.
He was fine :)
It can be serious but most cases are handled with antibiotics.
Im sorry your baby is going through this too.
:hugs:

poor baby, i hope it clears up soon, try not to scar your self reading internet stories, as generaly you only see the worst cases, i know that golden staf can be very dangerous but from what I know, that is only in the cases in wich surgery has been performed there for there is an opening into the skin or with other open wounds

My child hasnt had it, but I have. DS had to spend a bit of time in hospital at 6weeks old, so I was there with him. Came out and a weeks later I had it on my face. Basically my whole face was swollen, the pustules had turned into one joined big scabby thing, and it was ALL over my face. So embarrassing, and disgusting! To treat I had to be on anitbiotics and steroid cream, took a while to get rid of it though!
Not sure how I got it, but yeah started off as blister like lumps, sort of like when you get sunburnt then get all those little blisters!
It can be serious, but as long as it is being treated and monitored, all should be ok!

My daughter had golden staph she picked up in ICU at a big childrens hospital. She was in the MRSA isolation ward for a wekk and we had issues a couple of times with it, but it settled and cleared pretty quickly. I can't recall what the Dr treated it with, it was a tiny blister next to her thumb nail
