Glucose test

Hi everybody,
just a quick question, im going to get my glucose checked in the next couple of weeks and was just wondering if anybody could tell me what they actually do ?
I've heard they last for 3 hours ? :confused:

Hey there, what they do is they take some bloods when you get there, for you normal sugar levels, then the get you to drink a glucose drink (not yummy!!) they then get you to sit down for 1 hour. After that they take some more bloods, and get you to sit back down for another hour. You then get more bloods taken. The reason they take so much blood is to see how your body reacts to a sugar hit after 1 and 2 hours.

The 3 blood tests one is the extended version of the test and unless your doctor has specific concerns (or you get a bad result on the first test) you are unlikely to have it. The standard Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) for pregnancy is you arrive, have the drink, and have a blood test an hour later. Provided you have no family history of diabetes or similar, no personal history of it, your weight is under control and this is your first pregnancy then you should only have the one hour single blood test version (but if your doctor is worried you might be up for the 3 hour marathon) - you would have to ask your doctor to be sure.

ah well i like your side better, being there for 1 hour is better then 3 lol, but at least im prepared for the worst now, insted of going there thinking its an hour trip and being stuck there for 3. i'll be making sure to take lots of magazines :)

When they booked me in for my glucose test they told me it would take 3 hours, so maybe depends where you go.....mine isn't until next month so can't tell you much more. Good luck !

At how many weeks do they normally do this test?

28 weeks is when they sem to do the glucose test from my understanding.

all mine was i drank the glucose then waited an hour then they did a finger prick test...

i hate the drink... makes me gag lol...

my 1st 4 kids it took an hour... the last 2 it was 3 hours... so boring.

Ive never had a problem with the results... i 'think' I get the 3 hour one purely because of the amount of children Ive had.
