So far I've called MIPP in Melbourne, left a message. I've also contacted a couple of Midwife's from the list via email and phone.

I'm yet to actually speak to anyone so I thought I'd also post my request here.

I need a Midwife for a home birth, I am trying for a VBAC. At this stage it looks like I also need a midwife who will provide ante-natal care.

Currently the situation is, I have no doctor, no hospital, and I'm really frustrated about the lack of options I have available. Monash Clayton have said they will not take me due to zoning restrictions. Even though I do live in the area, all my ID etc has another suburb as my address, for privacy reasons. The lady at the booking office told me today that the only way I'd be having my baby at Monash is if I come in an ambulance to emergency!
I would like to know price etc, and if an arrangement can be made to pay the birthing costs when I receive the baby grant.

Thanks

I'm getting somewhere, spoke to Joy Johnston so far, who was very helpful.

Good on you Catalytic, hang in there and go for your home water birth. Another thought - write to your local MP and really lay it on about the lack of options in our maternity services. I've just done that myself. Just before an election is a good time to bend the ear of politicians.
It's disgusting that women like you, like me, like us all have to go through this just to get gentle, low-tech, continuity of care if that's what we want/need.

Whether we decide to give birth at home, in a birth centre or in a hospital, the funding should be uniform, as is the case in New Zealand (and other countries too).

Fantastic idea, as I have to approach my local MP and interview them for a political story for my News and Politic unit at uni. This would be a perfect political issue the state of maternity health in Victoria! Thanks for the brainwave!

Have you looked in the Bubhub directory? There are quite a few listed in Melbourne - you can find it here (http://www.bubhub.com.au/servicesmidwives.php#vic).

HTH :)

Hi, My midwife was great....I'm in Carrum Downs, I'm not sure where Mulgrave is?

I payed $400 +pre-natal appointment costs ($80 each, in my home) during pregnancy, and then the rest ($600 +post-natal costs[same as pre-natal costs]) when i got the maternity payment.

I had a home water VBAC, all went beautifully

PM me if you'd like my midwifes details :)
