Hi everyone,
some of u may have seen my thread regarding the pocket of fluid on the back of Elliot's head over the last week.

Turns out our GP and the CHN have no idea what they were talking about and it is a lot more serious.

I didn't feel right about their diagnosis and it has been playing on my mind. I couldn;t find any literature on this 'common' thing and no one here had ever heard of it - not so common hey? So i called out paed who said it didnt sound good and booked us in for an appnt immediately.

That was today and it has been an awful day. We have to take our tiny little man to the hospital on friday for a CT scan as our paed believes that there is a tear in Elliot's spinal cord which is leaking fluid into the skull. It will probably require surgery.

As you can imagine, we are shattered. Please keep our little boy in your thoughts and prayers and take it from me, if you don't feel right about something - go with your gut feeling. i only wish i had listened to myself a week ago.

Thanks:(

Kate, please don't be too hard on yourself because you didn't pick it up last week. The fact is that you have picked it up now and are getting something done about it straight away and not 6 months down the track when it could have been worse. I will be thinking of you. {{{{HUGS}}}} :)

So yesterday is over, praise the Lord. It was a very exhausting and painful day but we finished up with a fairly good result.

The CT scan was clear, showing no signs of leaking, malformations etc etc - very good. The fluid, they suspect, is completely superficial. But, no one still knows what it is and have ever seen it before. So while they are comforting us with the fact that it is nothing serious, we are being referred to a neurosurgeon at Westmead Children's Hospital for a second opinion and some kind of an answer???:o

So, that's that. poor little man was so distressed but was very very brave. While we were there they also found that he has a heart murmur, but it is nothing to worry about and are told that it is quite common. That's fine but we had just come back from the scan and all these doctors come running in the room to listen to his heart and started talking about 'irregularities'... OMG!

So all in all, it is positive but not over yet. We would like to thank you all for your support and love, prayers and wishes. It means a lot to us. And, remember to always trust yourself.

Lots of love and appreciation, Kate

I haven't spoken to you before but I'd like to send my thoughts for your little mans speedy recovery. It's a terrifying experience to be faced with something like this. Try to find solace in the fact that hospital staff and specialists are incredibly brilliant and modern medicine can overcome huge hurdles should they find something the matter (particularly so early). My little boy was faced with the Neuro department at Westmead also.....eventually we found some answers and he is slowly on the mend.

Our little angels are very tough when they need to be, they bounce back brilliantly. What a great mum you are for picking it up so early.

Stay strong and keep smiling as best you can, Elliot needs it.

Hugs to you all,

Ellle x

That's good news Kate, and I'm sure little Elliot appreciates his mummy being so strong for him....I know I would be a bumbling mess! :crying:

Fingers crossed they get to the bottom of it and it's nothing serious. I'm sure it will all be okay, keep the faith :p

You've been referred to the neurosurgeon, I suspect, as more a matter of dotting the I's and crossing the T's, you're doctor most likely wants to ensure that there isn't anything occuring that he has missed, but to also confirm his diagnosis.

You'll most likely also find that the neurosurgeon will be able to give you some plan of action in regards to the condition whether that be management or removal.

I wouldn't stress to much, you'll be in good hands - I hope everyone works out positively for you.
