View Full Version : Camping with MCNs.
We are going away camping in a few weeks and id like to take my mcn.
We are leaving Friday morning and cming home sunday.
They have flushing toilets and hot running showers. I believe there is a small bath for babies to use?
Has anyone else attempted it before?
What do i need to take?
What will make it easier?
How do i dispose of the poo?
When should i was ect?

Never done it before here, but found some info for you.
1. Have a large wet bag and bi-carb (to absorb smells) during the drive.
2. Use flats and fleece covers - they stand up better to commercial washing machines and dryers and have the added bonus of drying in half a day (in the shade, less time if in the sun).
4. Take flushable liners.
3. Only use fitteds for nights.
4. As much as possible, let the kids go nappy free. I find this easier to do for bush camping. I get a bit self conscious in caravan parks but it does depend on the spot and how crowded it is.
On another forum some people have said they have gone the whole time without washing  others have gone into town to use the laundromat.

I haven't been camping for a very long time, especially with a child in cloth nappies.. but I would suggest taking a big bucket with a lid, a spatula to scrap the poo into the toilet then rinse the nappy the best you can under a tap or shower.
The only concern I would have is that if you don't rinse them properly they may go mouldy.
Make sure you take more than enough nappies to get you through.
I don't think there's much more you can do :detective:
I haven't been camping with yet, however I did have to handwash my nappies for 2 weeks (due to machine breaking down and being fixed). Plus we've done a trip from Sydney-Adelaide a couple of times (2-3 days).
I'd wash nappies in the bath, warm-hot water, and if you're able to actually get in the bath and stomp all over them as you would grapes. Rinse a couple of times.
I'd take some MCN for night for the extra absorbency, then just use terry flats for during the day. I would only use covers at night, and if possible not worry about them during the day. If it's warm enough just have a nappy and shirt on.
Take a garbage bag or a wet bag rather than a bucket - just for extra room in your car when travelling.
Poo goes in the toilet. If you don't have access to a toilet, do as you would for youself. Dig a hole and bury it.
Some good ideas there..like the one about going into town to wash...hmmm
Anyway should add
Only ds in nappies will be 4.5 months, and only breastfed. Hoping to take pockets, as flats take up a lot room. So far all my pockets are same absorbency as ds is not sleeping through yet.:banghead:

Personally, if it were me and I had enough nappies, I wouldn't wash untill I got home..............from Friday Morning till Sunday Night is only 3 days and many people only wash every2-3 days anyway. I think you would be really unlucky if they went mouldy. I left a nappy ina wetbay in the boot of my car for about a weeka s I completely forgot it was there ands it was fine once washed. Aslo in that short time I think you would struggle to get them dry in time if you were handwashing as they wouldn't get spun dry.
Now taht I read thta back, i tsounds a bit negative, didn't mean to at all!! Just jotting down what I thought of! I think if you wan tto/need to wash, if you can get into town that would be the easiest. As bub is fully breastfed, you needn't worry about getting the poo off before you wash! Another option could b eto get some microfibre inserts a sthey dry super fast!
