Am in my 23rd week and am sitting at a computer all day. During the day, every time I get off my chair I can hardly walk due to the pressure that feels like I have on my pelvic floor. Has anyone else experienced this? The doctor told me it's just everything moving but it only happens after I've been sitting upright. When I'm not at work and can walk around or lie down I have no pain at all. I'm thinking I will have to finish work earlier than expected because the pain is quite bad.

Hi Caitlin's Mum,
In my last pregnancy when I was working as a receptionist I had a lot of pain in my pelvic and hip area when getting up after sitting down for a while. I also had a lot of trouble with fluid retention from sitting down so much. I found a soft cushion under the bum and behind my lower back help. Those you beaut ergonomic chairs just don't cut it when your pregnant. I ditched mine and stole my Dealer Principal's meeting chair. He hardly used it thankfully and didn't miss until about a month later by which time he was happy to give it up for a pregnant lady. I found it helpful to get up and have a little walk around every twenty minutes. It also helped to get up slowly and use support to get up. I worked through to 36 weeks but I reduced my hours to 9-3 each day instead of working full days.
Luckily this pregnancy I haven't had to worry about work as I didn't return to work after my son was born. Things are much more settled this time and I am more active during the day trying to keep up to my son.
Just try to pace yourself and see how things progress. But like I mentioned a bit of extra padding and those little walks around the office made a big difference. Don't get me wrong I still got uncomfortable but it was much better after those few changes.
Best of luck to you through the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi!
I am also experiencing a similar thing...I am 22 weeks pregnant and my right hip joint is extremely painful....so much so that once I lay down, i can't move my right leg with out intense pain!.....
I am seeing a chiropractor and also making sure I get active as much as possible, I have started walk of an afternoon (on my way home from work, I get off the bus a few stops early and walk the rest of the way) and I have found that helpful, also making sure I don't spend all my day at my desk.....
so I get up every hour or so (normally to go to the loo hehehehe)
The pain comes and goes, I think depending on where my little girl decides to make herself comfortable!!
Hope this helps, all the best
marilyn.

I had quite bad pain in my pelvic joints (3 of them, one in the front in the pubic bone - which was the worst and two at the back either side of your spine). I had pain walking and rolling over in bed was worse! I saw a physio who taught me how to use my muscles to make up for the slackening of the ligments that is part of the pg process. This was really helpful - one visit saved the day.
Oh and I strongly recommend against jogging - I made up for a quick trot to the bus with a week of pain - seriously at 7 months what was I thinking
Cheers

Hi
I have the same symptoms. I sit at a desk all day and every time a get up I feel like I am hobbling because of the pain. I too spoke to my obs about it and she assured me that it was normal.
I find that it helps if you use your abdominal muscles consciously when getting up, that is, breath in contract your abdominal muscles then stand up. Use the same concept when taking the first few steps after sitting for a while.
If you find out anything else that helps, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Hi all.
I'm not hear to scare any of you, but I would like to give you a small warning.
I started feeling these pains arround 20 or so weeks. I'm now 33-35weeks and have pelvic displacia also known as symphis pubis disfunction. Although what you are all experiencing is quite normal, without proper care it can get alot worse. My advice is to go and see a pysio who can show you exercises you can do & advice on how to lesson the causes. Please do this as you don't want to end up like me. I now have to use a walking frame and am being induced early due to severe pain. If you want to know more, read my thread on Pelvic displacia.
Best of luck with your pregnancies.
