hey when u decide to stop working cause ur too fat or too tired or just too emotional to put up with all the CR@P all the customers give you do u start to get the fournightly maternity payment or is that only for after the bubby comes out????
Im sure u all have been there and done that so PLEASE let me know how u did it
thanks
With my first I left at 36 weeks, but wish I had left sooner. It was a definite struggle to get to work and be happy each day!
With the second, I was only working part time as I had an 18month old too, but I worked to 37 weeks with her. I generally felt better with her pregnancy and it was easier to sit at work for those 2 days a week than to be chasing my toddler!!!
Although the fact I couldnt have a nap at work was annoying.....
I think it depends on how you feel and also how desperately you need money. Unfortunately you get nothing til after the bubs arrives. But the money may not be worth jeopardising your health for.
I gave up work when I was 20 weeks pg, I had high blood pressure & work was a 2 hour commute via 2 buses. Unfortunately you wont get any gov help until you have had the bub but I know that I did what was best for my (then) growing babe & you will too.

i heard that if the doctor says you can't work any longer u can go on newstart allowance (but not have to search for jobs) until the baby is born. does anyone know if this is true? i ask because i am finding it VERY difficult to save money (too many bills, rent, etc) & my husband left me last month, so i don't have access to any other income! i'm 26 weeks now & am getting VERY annoyed with work! i am a nightfiller, so i guess i won't be able to carry on too much longer, anyway! at least i'm owed 4 weeks holidays... :D

I left work at 37 weeks. Couldn't afford to leave any earlier. Lucky I left when I did though, as MJ was born at 38. Not much rest for me :p

I left work at 11 weeks :smiliedance: as I worked in an OR and the risk of needle stick injury was to risky and I just didn't want to risk it!!! and there was a lot of heavy lifting and they didn't really want to change anything so I said ADIOS!!
Yes you can get newstart allowance if your dr says you can't work any longer, I know this as a friend at work did this. I think also if you have 6 weeks to go you can apply for this also.
I was going to finish work at 37 weeks but left at 36 weeks as I was so tired, plus my feet and hands started swelling.

i went into centrelink the other day & the guy that served me confirmed this. he said that 6 weeks before your due date u can go on newstart (without having to look for the jobs), or earlier if you have a doctor's certificate saying u can't work any more... i'm sure i could get a doc's certificate because the work i do requires a fair amount of heavy lifting & it is quite a strain at times (esp. my 9.5 hour shifts!), but i know that surviving off a centrelink allowance is VERY difficult & i still have another month b4 i've been a permanent at work for 12 months. & so then i can take my 4 weeks paid holiday up till my 6 weeks b4 being due & then change onto newstart :D
