So Dan And i where talking about him adopting loch....

I have a few questions if anyone can help...?

1: is it silly IN your opinion for him to adopt loch before we get married??

2: What is the process involved?

3: How much will it cost?

4: HOw long does it take?

not sure about elsewhere but in Qld I am pretty sure that you cant do step parent adoption before you have been married 2 years.

And noone is on his birth certificate...

On that link you gave go to legal requirements...it says that tyhe child must have been in your (and your partners care) for three years:smiliedance: So you might be OK!! Just dont move too Qld...lol

Oh, and to answer one of your questions...I dont think it is silly to do it before you are married at all.

In Qld we have been advised they don't allow step-parent adoptions as it doesn't change the family unit.

So we (at DD's insistence) changed her surname to the same as DH's and she's happy.

Thats what we are thinking of doing maybe......

BUt the thing s what would be his legal standing if heaven forbid something happened to me......

I looked into it and it will cost min $2500!!!

So i dont see if being possible for us for a long time if ever....

We are thinking of changing his last name when we get maried anyways cause thats up to me.......So yeah...
