An in law of mine has a 9 month old baby with an unusual head shape. It is narrow and quite Long. He has always had some obvious ridges on his head. His anterior fontanel seems quite small compared to my 8 month old's one.

His head has always been unusual but it hasnt gotten any better as he has gotten older. Overall his head is quite small but he is a small baby anyway.

His mother doesnt bother with CHN and rarely goes to the dr so i doubt he has had many measurments of growth taken.

Here is my question. She is a very sensitive person and is it worth mentioning to her my concerns about his head shape? she will likely get quite upset at me and not talk to me for ages. I just worry that if his plates are fusing too early than this could cause problems in his future and then i would feel really guilty if i suspected and said nothing.

Has anyones bub has a similar issue and did it require any medical intervention?

I would try to get her to see a paediatrician, not a CHN.
Our daughter has an unusual head shape/size; while her body is on the 10% chart, her head is above 90%. Her sutures were almost closed when she was born. So far scans don't show any problems, but it is something they are looking at inconjunctions with other tests they are doing for syndromes.

I'm not really sure how you'd bring it up though, without making her feel upset.

Having said that, babies heads tend to move alot during the first couple of years, and it may just be because of the birth.

Another option would be to get him into an Osteopath, preferrably a Cranio-Sacral Osteopath (if you can't find one, a normal Osteo is fine). We saw a CS Osteo for a few months with dd2 and is was wonderful for her head and the trauma's of birth.

Perhaps you could offer it as a gift :)
