Sorry just read your thread and thought I would post :o I really liked mine. If nothing else it gave me a lot of confidence and would use it again with my next birth. I however ended up in a c section due to complications with my pregnancy so I dont know if it helps with labour. I think the most daunting thing for most people is the cost

 I agree it is rather expensive! ... This is my 2nd pregnancy and I really wanted to try it with my first ... But the cost was rather daunting when there is soo much else to purchase.

This time around I have been thinking about it again. Even though I had a natural delivery with no tears nothing I would love to have the 'practice' so to speak & the after help that it can provide... Did this help you??

:laughing:It also sounds rather enjoyable! haha :o

Thanks for your comment!

From memory (and dont quote me without checking yourself) epi no was invented by a german ob to slowly stretch the perenium or train it to stretch to the size of a babies head and prevent tearing or episiotomies.

Basically it is a balloon you insert into your vagina and you blow it up to a certain level and push it out yourself. Overtime the balloon gets bigger (as per what you can handle) til it is the size of a babies head and can be expelled with ease. After having your baby you use the balloon to clench down on to improve your pelvic floor muscles. But like I said before they are pretty expensive retailing from chemist for about $200. I think they use a similar product for VBACs from what I have read and can gather from the decriptions others have given.

I used one after I got a third degree tear the first time I gave birth.

It gave me some confidence in that I'd done all I could to avoid tearing again.

I found when I used it I gradually worked my way up to 8 cm a couple of times and both times I began to tear - it didn't feel painful, so I was surprised both times.

I stopped using it after that as I didn't want to injure myself before birth.

I ended up having a 2nd degree tear the second time - I figure I must just be a tearer for some reason - but at least I knew I'd done all I could to prevent it.
