Just wondering..

Do any of you still drink coffee now that you are pregnant?

I have ONE skim latte per week (it's my special treat!), but a friend of mine was horrified that I even had this much and said I could be putting the jellybean in danger

I think I read that you can have something like two cups of coffee per DAY and it is a safe level. Is this right??

I thought it was 2 cups a day too. While pregnant with Michael I CRAVED coffee and had 1-2 a day.

Yep, 1 or 2 a day is fine. I drank 1-2 cups of coffee when pregnant with DD and she turned out just perfect.

I rarely drink coffee these days so have been drinking tea or hot chocolate during this pregnancy.

1 coffee a week shouldn't hurt the baby in any way.

I couldn't face the day without my coffee, but at about 6 weeks, when the m/s kicked in, it was the last thing i felt like. So haven't had one for 5 weeks now. (How the heck am I functioning? )

The midwife at our early pregnancy class said instant coffee is fine - but max 2 cups a day, but it's best to steer clear of espresso based coffees. Although, I can't imagine that one latte would have more caffeine than 2 instants? Maybe it's better not your total caffeine allowance in one big hit?

But, I can't imagine 1 latte a week would be a problem...

Phew!!

Thanks ladies, that makes me feel better then :)

I think I might give up the lattes though, because at the moment (it's coffee day today), it is making me feel like :barf:

Yeah I still drink my coffee and tea...
As long as you do not have it too strong, I think 1-2 a day is fine.

I don't usually drink coffee but in the last few weeks I've been REALLY wanting coffee !!
I can't believe it ! It's just not like me !
I went out and bought those cafe style Cappuccino packets in Decaf and I have already nearly finished the pack .

It's decaf so I'm sure It's ok .
Read up a bit about caffeine and thought I'd share If any one is interested .:bee:

-There is a 200mg limit of caffeine a day when your pregnant .
-Coffee has 80-350mg depending If it's Instant,Expresso etc also depends on the strength - Instant coffe has less caffeine than fresh, bought coffee .
-A can of coke has 59mg .
-Cup of Tea has between 8-90mg caffeine depending on strength .
-A chocolate bar has between 40-60mg .
-Decaf has about 2-4mg per cup .

i've cut down my coffee intake considerably. I couldn't stomach it for the first 14 weeks, the thought of coffee made me :barf:

But now i like to have probably one bought coffee if i'm out at the shops. And at home and work i have decaf instant, if i'm in need of something other than tea.

I have about 2 cups of tea in the morning and one in the arvo, or a hot chocolate... which is good for me, considering i used to have about 3-4 teas and 2 coffees per day!

Bel: were you drinking lots of coffee or tea with your first pregnancy? if so, how much?

i have one coffee a day and i make it a little weaker than what i used too. i read that you should cut it out but if you dont want to then limiting it is fine.

i drink maybe 3 a week. whether it be iced coffee or hot coffee.
2 cups a day is fine for bub. but if you niotice that bub is more active than usual, the coffee is more than likely the culprate. haha. i just have my coffee a little bit weaker than usual.

Thanks Bel1978 that is a bit of a scary story.

I have gone off coffee. Was still drinking it up til about 15 weeks then could not stomach the taste anymore. I have been getting hot chocolates instead but sounds like they have caffine in them aswell. I have also eaten a whole dove chocolate block in one day a few times recently.
