I know my DD and her cousin and little friend (all around 1yr) have had the same thing- crying when they are being fed because they have blisters in their mouth from Foot and Mouth disease...

We are all from the Gold Coast & Brisbane area... and I have heard there has been quite a BIG outbreak of it.

Perhaps check his hands and feet for little red spots- and blisters... also, if you can have a look in his mouth... take a look for little blisters in there also.

There is also alot of tonsilitis going around in kiddies atm too...

Dont want to scare you- but best to check, just in case??

Have you checked his temperature?

Hope you sort things out soon- I know how stressful having a screaming bub is-you just dont know what to do!

It sucks when bub is in pain and you have no idea why :( Could he maybe have reflux do you think? Maybe he is associating feeding with pain because of that and doesn't want to feed? I know my bub did the same thing, and she had silent reflux.

Also, do you find the night feeds are really good? It's best to take advantage of those so bub is getting what he needs.

I hope you manage to work out what it is and I hope it isn't anything too serious. Good luck!

I would definately look out for hand and mouth...my little gg is still getting over it and she had a terrible sore throat in the initial stages....otherwise he could jsut have a sore throat from the start of a cold.....i know this sounds like commen sense but is the bottle too warm or too cold....aslo my gg used to do that when the milk came out too slow from the teat or another cause was when she would get a big gulp of wind with the first sips.....so many causes its just about eliminating all the causes. good luck :) sorry also try giving him infants friend half hour before a feed to help wth wind and to calm him before his feed and i know its really early but a friend of mine her little girl got a tooth at 6 weeks so just in case try putting some bonjella on his gums....

Well, he generally feeds every 2 hours during the day, and only takes about half of what he is meant to - Instead of having the 150ml every 4 hours, he will have about 80ml every 2 hours.... He doesnt sleep very much during the day at all but is perfect at night - Will wake once at 3am and that is it... I am wondering if it is silent reflux, but how do I really know??

What you can do, is give bub mylanta after a feed and see if it settles him. That's how I found out my bub had it for sure. Mylanta can't be used for the long term, though - but it is okay just as a once off to see if they have it. (Mght be better to get bub checked by a doc, though before listening to someone on a forum! lol :))

Also, there will be other symptoms and this page should be able to assist:

Hope this helps!

He sounds like our son - who has reflux. He didnt want to feed because it hurt and started wanting a dummy - i guess the sucking took his mind off the pain. Look at the RISA website for more symptoms. :hugs:
