Hi guys. I am bringing my girls (18mths & 4 mths) down for 2 weeks next month and I was wondering what sort of clothes you all have your kidlets in at that time of year??
Also I will be staying mainly in Deloraine (near the racetrack), but flying into Lonnie. Does anyone know if there are any cheap-ish car hire companies around?? You know the ones that hire 2nd hand vehicles.
Also is there somewhere in Tas that hires our car seats??
Thanks
Donna
Hey there!
Congrats on your little (or not so little!) one! You're in the "May" group with Kristy right? Kristy is one of the beautiful Hobart mummies down here!
Weather here at the moment is not too bad - today it's about 18 and overcast but it can definately get cool at night so I'd bring jeans/pants, long sleeve tops, or t-shirts and jackets/cardigans. Maybe bring a hat for the baby just in case.
I'm not sure about 2nd hand car rentals but I always go with Avis - you can usually get a good deal online with most car companies and most of them hire car seats. Otherwise I'd try some of the baby shops in Launnie - I'm not sure of the names - maybe just look up baby stores in the yellow pages.
Hope that helps a little - maybe some of the northerners could tell you the baby shops or may even have something you could just borrow?
Have a great trip!

The Red Cross hires car seats and i don't think they charge very much for them.
I know Budget car rentals hire car seats but not sure on the price.

Thanks kristy - I'll know for sure once we get down there. I'd love to meet you IRL and introduce both Ebs to eachother :D
So far, amazingly, my Uncle has arranged for 2x porta cots, 2x car seats, a stroller and a pram. I think all I really have left to find is a cheap car to hire and a highchair (although not a priority).
My other question to you tassie hubbers is where would be a good place to take the girls for a fun day?? I haven't been down for so many years that I can't really remember anything. We'll mostly be in Devonport and Deloraine.
Thanks
D

Hey
There is a really good place in Devonport called Jungle Gyms, they have heaps of play equipment for the kids (there is a smaller play area for under 4's) and the parents can sit and have a coffee. It's pretty cheap as well, for our kids (aged 5 and 22 months) it was only about $14 for as long as you want. We take our two there whenever we go to see the in-laws.
The bluff at Devonport is also good, there is a nice park/playground and it's close to the beach.
The Don Railway is good, it's about $10 an adult and you can go on a train ride (about 30-45 minutes), DS loved the ride and had a great time looking at all the trains.
There is also a wildlife park at Gunns Plains, they have heaps of animals that you can feed, a reptile room and also donkeys, camels, buffalo and heaps of other. There is also BBQ's and picnic tables...
Hope this helps in some way! :D

Zoo Doo, Bonorong Park, are both good for the lil ones

Take a mixture of summer and winter clothes! I was down there in mid September and the weather was beautiful.
I wasted my time taking anything warm because I lived in jeans and short sleeve shirts.
I second going to Zoo Doo, it's fun (and not just for the kiddies!!)
 hi there. I am just out of Launceston heading towards Deloraine and it has been pretty cool again here at night. So do pack some warm stuff. Hope you have a great stay!!

awww thanks so much for all the advise everyone. I can't wait to get down there and see my family :D The only downside is that we are staying at my poppys house which is soooo old that the toilet and bath are outside in the shed. Looks like daytime baths for the girls and I. I remember years ago my nan got bitten by a snake going to the toilet one night so I'm gonna have to get used to using a chanber pot again. DD2 is currently toilet training so I'm sure she will be wondering why mummy is using the potty

My parents live behind the racetrack in deloraine, theres no car hire companies in deloraine but you can hire one from launceston, try budget car rental, they might be the cheapest.
hope your stay in Tas is nice!! : )

That's near where we are staying. I think it's Railway Parade or something like that. I remember as a kid we used to walk around the racetrack of an evening and there'd be rabbits hopping around everywhere.
I can't wait......
