Hi, I know this is going to sound really strange but I have never had a bikini wax, I know, I know what 24 yr old hasn't had a bikini wax, but I never needed to until I feel pg with Liv. I have never been very hairy (sorry if its tmi) but when I feel pg I suddenly got hairy, it has mostly gone away now but I wanted to know whats involved in a bikini wax & will it hurt much the first time, how do you feel comfortable with the waxer? Your responses are greatly appreciated.:D

I have had my bikini waxed a few times i am very hairy(i hate it)and it is a bit painful i guess its a bit like getting your eye brows waxed except slighlty more paiful.I was a bit embaressed when i got mine done because i am very hairy and didnt want anyone to see but then i would rather get it done than not.

The pain factor, IMO, all depends on how much hair you want removed. If you just want the parts that might show if you were to wear, say, a pair of undies (like little sticky-out bits on your very inner thighs)...that's called a bikini wax, and it really doesn't hurt very much. At least, for me it doesn't.

If you wanted all that was showing if you have a g-sting on, that's a g-string wax, and it's a little more painful, but still not very. It covers your behind as well...because many women have hair on their bottoms (so don't feel embarrassed ANYONE who has this - it's normal).

If you wanted it all off - or all but a tiny strip - that's a brazillian and it's OUCH! The closer to the actual vagina the waxing gets, the more painful it seems to be.

I hope that helped a little.

I'm Arabic - so you don't even know what hairy means! lol.

It's not that bad - I've had full brazilians, and still not that bad. That said, my pain threshold is pretty high, I can epilady my underarms myself, even though it usually bleeds.

Put it this way - it ain't nothing on child birth!!!

I'm with Rahmi's Mum on this one.
Although i don't have a very high pain threshold, i don't think it's that bad. Yes it does hurt a bit but childbirth is heaps worse.

It is so much better than shaving so if you can get it done, go for it.

wow! someone asked the question i wanted to, but was too scared to! :yelclap:

when i was getting facial once the topic of conversation turned to bikini waxing & the beauty therapist said that they see soooooooo many bikini lines, etc EVERY day that they're used to them (i guess like doctors are to human bodies). so, i guess there's nothing to be scared of in that respect - but i still am!! lol

i'm actually thinking of getting someone who makes housecalls to do it - i think it might not be as scary if u r in your own home. the pain is not a factor for me, i just don't like the thought of someone seeing my privates... i'd prefer a brazilian to a bikini wax...

also, to those who know more about it: do u do any sort of preparation? like make sure the hair is a certain length? sorry to ask a question that may make some of u uncomfortable, but i am TOTALLY naive in this area!!

& livsmummy - don't feel bad, i'm 26 & asking this! lol

Hi livsmummy!!

Lol I cant believe you havent been waxed before!! But thats okay...I was really really scared/nervous when I first went. I get the full Brazilian....and theres two ways they can do it...(from my experience...but i'm not a Beauty Therapist) There is Hot wax and Strip wax...I love the hot wax...It dosant hurt as much they kinda put it on then roll it off instead of Stripping...(stripping is faster, they put fabric over the wax then quickly rip it off..but I think it hurts more)

All of the girls that have done mine are great...they make you feel heaps comfortable and they usually keep you talking so you be distracted..The more you get it done..the softer the hair grows back so the pain will decrease each time...(lol aparently) Waxing does hurt dont get me wrong..lol but believe me...it is WAY worth it...It feels so much smoother and like cleaner..lol and your man will LOVE it!!

Good luck whateva u decide to do!!
mwah!

KiLLaKaZ just make sure the hair isn't too long as it will hurt more I normally trim my own a little not to like stubble but like an few CMS

Hi Livsmummy,

Trust me once you have it done once you'll never look back. I'll be honest in saying OMG the first time having it done hurt...AloT.

But once you keep getting them done they don't hurt as much or at all...(compaired to labour it's no pain really..hehe)

Just like diamonds22 said go the Hot Wax...

Goodluck!

I'm a hairdresser and I work along side beauty therapists, and trust me they see all kinds of hairy!!! With that in mind I'll add, I never have bikini done with ppl I work with (bit creepy for me!!)

I Get nearly everything waxed, I'm the hair removal queen, I've tried everything and waxing is definately the best!!! besides laser therapy/electrolisis (where the hair is never coming back)

I wax eyebrow, top lip, underarm, full leg, and bikini, Some ppl even wax their arms and tummies, I not hairy enough for that, every time you wax the hair root gets thiner, causing less pain as they rip it out,

Start with something easy, like eyebrow or leg, doing bikini first might be a bit scary, I also think under arm is the most painfull anyway!! And XXX is gettin pretty close to those sensitive areas, But i'll tell you this, the embarassment of rolling over and spreading your cheeks is the worst part!! (main reason I havn't had many triples)

Also, you keep you knickers on for waxing!! even XXX (I was so scared the first time cause I thought my bits would be hanging out for all to see!!)

PG was the first time I didn't have bikini waxed cause your hormones make the area more sensitive and apparently it hurts alot more, I bought remmington bikini trimmer and kept it a NO.1 instead!! I figured the area would see enough pain later!!

GOODLUCK LOL:smiliedance:

thanks for the tips!

one last think - i get ingrown hairs around my bikini line pretty badly after using hair removal creams, shaving, waxing (i tried it myself once, but it didn't work too well  ) & using an epilady!! is there some sort of secret to not getting them?? i haven't worn a bikini without boardshorts for over 10 years because of this - even if my bikini line is hair-free, it's covered in red lumps from ingrown hairs! :crying:

sorry if that's tmi, but i have no one else to ask & there seems to be a couple of experts around here! ;) & u never know, there could be a few ppl around that were too shy to ask that very question! ;)

Hi KiLLaKaz and ladies!

Heheheh its so funny were talking about this stuff...but so great...I remember I didnt even know we were spose to down there until I finally ask my friends what they did for lol maintenance!!

Oh yep so Ingrown hairs....I use to get sooo many too when I use to shave...then as soon as I started getting Brazillians I brought this cream from Ella Bache (I remember it being expensive and its in this tiny tub!...but god what beauty stuff isnt anymore?!!) Anyway its called "Creme Intex No.2" ...its like a paste and you just put it on the area after a shower...now i never get ingowns and I didnt even finish using the whole tub..I just dont need it anymore...so i dont know if its cos of the waxing or the paste...but yay no more ingrowns.

I've also heard exfoliating with a loafer (sorry spelling) its spose to help too.

lol hope that helps...you'll be back in your bikini briefs in no time!

It's because it's a pimple creme and it opens up the pores, you can also put it on your face, clears up existing pimples almost over night!!!

You can use cheaper ones aswell, ella bache can get expensive!!

Exfoliating can help!!

Thanks girls, I always knew I could count of you all for honest, realistic & helpful advice. I think that I will bite the bullet & have a wax done, I usually get my u/arms done so am not a complete novice but have never needed a bikini wax before. I don't think I will be getting a XXX  anytime soon but a normal one I should be able to cope with, fingers crossed.

Someone asked about the hair being a particular length to get waxed...good question!

The answer is pretty simple - it's a good idea to make sure it's under 1cm long, or just before the hair begins to curl. That's much less painfree, and the wax can pick it up much better.

Most Beauticians/Beauty Therapists will use HOT or HARD wax (it's the same thing, but you can call it 2 different names). It's applied thickly, and removed when almost dry. This type is best for coarse hair...like the bikini line and underarms. It also is more likely to get the smaller hairs.

Strip wax is best used on legs. You can use hot wax on legs...but it costs so much more and is really just pointless. Strip wax is applied with a metal spatula, and thinly spread on the leg. A strip of either fabric or paper is applied (not "reflex" type paper!) and then pulled off...removing the hair. It can't really remove very short hair...which is why you have to wait a while in between leg waxes.

As for ingrowns...it's probably a good idea to go "commando" after a wax, and have tepid baths/showers...not hot or cold. You should also exfoliate prior to a wax, and massage with oil (or cream) afterwards. Generally, your beautician should apply an oil/cream afterwards, but she probably won't exfoliate.

And yeah - seeing bits shouldn't be an issue. Firstly, beautician's are very used to seeing all sorts of body parts, and are kind of "immune" to them. And secondly, they're professionals...just like doctors...they're not going to make you feel like you're a freak. In my opinion, the hairier the better...it makes you feel like you're actually ACCOMPLISHING something...at least I do...lol. That makes me sound weird...

Another thing to remember is that you should not have to go undie-less, or show any of your inner labia or actual vagina (or, to be vulgar, your "pink bits") to the beauty therapist. You should be wearing a g-string, either your own, or a disaposable paper one supplied by the salon, which will be moved around to cover you, whilst still accessing all hair-covered parts. This is with a brazillian btw...you can just wear regular bikini breifs when getting a bikini wax (boy-legs are probably a stupid choice) and a g-string when getting a g-string wax (or your salon will supply a paper one...but make sure when booking your appointment!)

I do hope this helps. It feels good to be able to share my knowledge!

Hi livsmummy,

I have been waxing myself for more than 10 years. It gets easier everytime you do it. It will hurt at first, but then you'll get used to it. It will also become easier to do it. I use Nair Easiwax Organic Gel Wax. It is really good and easy. It has a leaflet inside which explains how to wax very well.

Good luck

Ladybug ur game for waxing urself!!!

I am part asian and I don't really grow much hair at all! I get brazillians and it hurts alot less than getting ur eyebrows waxed!!! U just have to remember the beautician sees alot of "private parts" in a day so they r so used to it.

I have a great beautician and she chats the whole time so I don't think about it!
