Ok asking this for a friend.

Has anyone here been diagnosed with Bells Palsy? How did it effect your pregnancy?

Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

RB my mother had it when she was pregnant with my sister she had laid down for a sleep and woke with it. She was fine, but her speech was slightly affected and now 37 years later her droopy face is very, very noticeable and her eyelid is droopy, but it was quite severe not everyone gets affected the same, it had no impact on her pregnancy. It's a 1 in 3 chance if you're pregnant though to get it.

I have had it RB, but not when I was pregnant, so not sure if I can help much. I recovered completely within a couple of months. They gave me steroids, but I'm not sure that they really made a difference. I think it was just time.

one of the women that I shared a room with in hospy while waiting to deliver had bells palsy. the OB told her that it should go away now that she had the baby. The physio told her that there are exercises and things that she should and shouldn't be doing. can't remember exactly what they are.... but I would be contacting a physio.

I have a family member who has it and didnt really change during her pregnancy. She had her standard good times and bad times. I'm sure we were told its genetic too

I had it just after we got married, though not when I was pregnant. I didn't go to the doctor till 3 days after it started and was put straight on steroids. Now, nearly 8 years later I still get twiches under my eye and in the corner of my mouth on the side that 'fell' when I get over tired or stressed. Though you'd never know I had it.
My doctor told me that you need to get on top of it straight away or the 'droop' may be permanent. I don't remember much about the exercises though, just mainly plenty of rest and try to stay stress free.

I know a girl who had it a few years ago in her pregnancy. It didn't effect the pregnancy in any way and she fully recovered from it and went back to normal. She had another baby a last year and didn't get it that time.

Thanks ladies.

My friend is currently in hospital under obs for it. Bub is still happily kicking away. Last I heard she was waiting for a neurological consult.
