For the last two days Julius has been having trouble feeding, he crys with hunger.I try to give him BF's & he turns red, crys, draws up his legs & wont suck much, if he does then not for long.If I persist with trying to feed him he becomes unresponsive & crys & crys!!! until I give him a dummy then he is fine!
He is starving  What could be wrong?? He hasnt made as many wet nappies so iam worried. He is feeding more at the night (he still crys with pain I just persist more because Iam tired so he feeds a bit more but comes off crying constanly until he is done) I dont know whats up with my little guy!!!

Could he have wind?, just thinking if he draws his legs up and looks in pain
Is he due for a poonami? I am sure you have thought of that though.
Could you be ovulating again? Hormonal changes can alter the taste of your milk, so he might just be complaining about that , if that is the case, it should sort itself out in a couple of days.
Umm... sorry, I can't think of anything else, except maybe he has an ear infection, or is sick in some other way?

I dont know, Could it be teething?? what should I do? what do I do if he looses weight? I feel sorry for him because he just spat his dummy out & is telling me he is hungry but I know he will most likely cry!!
They do go through stages like that Neo :hugs: When they start to feed less, it makes us feel a bit unneeded, cause we are used to them being at the boob 24/7! He might turn back into a boobie lovin boy in a few days  Just offer it when you think he wants it, but don't press the issue (unless he is showing signs of dehydration)... you don't want him associating boob with crying and frustration. If he is healthy, he won't let himself starve.
Loosing a bit of weight isn't a huge issue, but dehydration is... if he is having less than 6-8 wet cloth nappies in a 24 hr period, he gets floppy/listless and his skin doesn't pinch back, or his fontanel sinks in, then they are signs of dehydration.
Maybe try to have a nice relaxing feed in the bath or in a different position to normal if you are worried.

from memory my dd went through a pulling on and off stage at about 10 -12 weeks..... however i didnt feed for much longer after that as my dd was in plaster for 3 months and it made it difficult as it was. it was very distressing and basically i gave up..... (ok im rambling )
however...... if i had of known about these forums and probably received the support and knowledge of these ladies, ( ok rambling again )
point is at this age they "apparently" go through a growth spurt and become fussy at the breast.... however if your bub is not having many wet nappies then maybe you should see your gp or community nurse for any other realated issues.
hope that helps you in a round about way:)

these are the signs of dehydration in a baby.. the pinching of the skin is for toddlers and adults so please dont try it cause it will mislead you.
• Has not wet any nappies for six hours or has wet fewer than six nappies in a 24-hour period:
• Has persistent dark yellow urine
• Has less energy or is less playful than usual
• Has a sunken fontanelle (soft spot)
• Has a dry, sticky mouth and lips
• Isn't shedding any tears while crying
If your child continues to lose fluid, he could become seriously dehydrated and need intravenous fluids. If you see any of the following danger signs, get your child to a doctor straight away:
• Sunken eyes
• Hands and feet that feel cold and splotchy
• Lethargy
Dehydration is serious, so please watch for these signs
Maybe you could try feeding him when he's sleepy. My bub is 9 1/2 months now and on 3 meals a day so she doesn't need as much milk as your bub would, but she has become disinterested in the boob during the day. I am finding that she feeds more early morning and through the night when she's sleeping, where as she used to sleep for about 10 hours at night straight. They all go through stages so don't worry. It usually passes as quick as it starts.

I guess he would be making about 6 wet nappies in 24hours (normaly he has more). But he has no signs of dehydration he still seems to have as much energy as normal.I guess I will just see what happens. Thanks :)
by the way he just whinged for a feed, he fed for about one & a half minutes with crying breaks, I kept trying then he went bright red & cryed.I had trouble consolling him, I wrapped him & gave him a dummy & walked him around and now he is sleeping but he cryed for 10 minutes! I feel so stressed.

I was just getting ready for bed and caught a glimpse of julius 'searching' for a nipple on DP in his sleep, so I picked him up & fed him!!!!! he only fed for 6 minutes but at least it is something.I cant figure out the problem..maybe he is a night feeder?

around 12 weeks or so Ryla fgot very good at feeding he would empty my boob in about 5 mins
i was worried cause he didnt seem to be feeding much, but the CHN said hes just very good at what he does.
if hes sill happy and having 6 or so wet nappies a day, he should be fine.
but if hes pulling his legs up it sounds like bad wind. have your tried pushing his legs up to his belly? or pushing his legs in a bicycle type way to help with the pain?
try something lke brauwers (sp) colic relief or wind relief and see if that helps

Everyone has given you some great info here but maybe you could try feeding him elevated?Try feed him until he is unsettled have a break and burp him and then back on the boob a bit longer.
Could he be constipated at all? When he is in pain try massaging his tummy gently,i usually do this to ds and he burps straight away.Another good way is to put him in between your legs with him tummy across one leg and rub/pat his back. They find it very soothing and usually gets the most stubborn burps up.
Last but not least is Sasha went through this at the same age,i thought it was teething but he got his first tooth at 7 months, who knows maybe the teeth are shifting around.Maybe try some bonjella before a feed?

have u tried infacol drops b4 a feed to eliminate the gas? maybe it could help?
also u could try moving his legs in a 'bicycle' motion, to get out some gas???
maybe hes just changing a bit too.....its hard sometimes 2 keep up with what they want!
It could be the beginning of an ear infection...sucking hurts them so they don't feed well and cry, even though they're starving. Being upright they can be happy as.
I'd be inclined to get him checked out by a GP....then you can rule out any health issues.
If he continues crying during and after feeds i would take him to a dr just to rule out things like a UTI and silent reflux.
:hugs: I hope he settles down soon

Have you looked on the ABA site for Breast Refusal?
DS did it at about 4 months, just decided one day that it was booby laying on the bed, or not at all. We had a rough couple of days till I worked out what was going on.
Try different positions for feeding, too.
