In this mornings Herald Sun pg 26, there is an article that talks about the links of Cancer with Digital Baby Monitors.

Thought you might be interested
This is a summary of the article

Children may be at risk of cancer from Digital Baby Monitors parents have been warned. The monitors emit potentially dangerous radio waves even when not in use. A UK Consumer group is warning parents against using them, because research as suggested that it increases the risk of brain tumours, and it also may be linked with Leaukemia, breast cancer, headaches and disturbed behaviour patterns in children.

PowerWatch founder Aladair Philips said
" This technology poses a risk to everyone, but babies in particular should not be exposed to it at all. Babies are more likely to be affected because their cells are rapidly dividing as they grow and can be more easily damaged".

On the other hand Dr Michael Clark from the British Health Protection has said that he would be surprised if they could cause cancer as they magnetic fields are operated at low levels and the devices were not held against the head.

Moral of the article keep it away from the babies heads

I don't really know either Neaby. I assume that they are the new whizz-bang ones with video etc but who knows.

I'd take articles like this with a grain of salt.

The big difference (to explain in layman's terms, provided by my DH - expert in all things electronic) is that with analogue you can get interference (ie. other people close by also using monitors/garage door openers/some older TV remotes/CB radios etc) but you don't get any interference with a digital monitor. Most product packaging states whether the monitor is digital or analogue.

Which is why I bought one.

And why I will continue to use it.

I figure I'll cause my bub more harm by not hearing her crying for me than to not use one at all.

Articles like this give me the willies......HONESTLY!!!!

everything causes cancer... according to one researcher or another!!
who wants to be so careful about what they use/ do/ eat everyday that life becomes one big stress? i say make the most out of life & forget these ppl saying this & that may cause cancer ('cept the obvious ones - like cigarettes!!)

I'm so glad I found this post. I read a comment on another forum posted by a member and have been trying to find info about it ever since.

Another thing to lose sleep over as a mum.
