hi,

i'm just interested to know where other canberrans have had their babys and whether they chose midwives, hospital delivery suite, home births etc.. and how they found it.

i had my first through the canberra midwifery program at the canberra hospital, and was lucky to also get in with my second (i'm due in oct) as they fill up quickly
- but if i hadn't got in i'm not sure what i would have done and am curious to know what else is available

i should probably add the midwives in the cmp, i found, were all wonderful, obviously i wouldn't be going back if they weren't - so i'm not looking to change. however, in the future ( we hope to have 3 or 4, no more for about 5yrs though!) and all going well this time, i might consider a home birth nxt

any opinions? :)

I had my two at John James.
I went there as my sil went there my mum had my sis there, & my ob/gyn delivered there.
I went to my ob/gyn as she had taken over my original gyns practice & I felt more comfortable with a female dr.
I found most of the mid wives excellent, couldn't fault them on any thing. But there were the odd 2 that if I never saw again it wouldnt bother me. ;)

I had my first daughter at Calvary in Canberra and was really happy with the service they provided - the only midwife I had any dramas with was a temp filling in - the rest were fantastic. I went there because friends had recommended it and my gynie who helped us to fall pregnant could then be my obst as his rooms were there. I realised how fantastic Calvary was when I had my second daughter in Brisbane at the Mater and the hospital and midwives were not even half as supportive as the ones at Calvary. If we have another baby (which my husband swears is not going to happen) I would seriously consider moving back to Canberra and going back to my doctor and Calvary.

I had both my bubs at Calvary, mainly because I work there ;) I LOVE my OB, and trust him completely, so between him and the midwives I was a happy girl :)

:) thanks for your replys. i have heard a lot of good things about calvary, in fact in the birth announcement part of the canberra times always has ppl praising this one OB - whos name has slipped my mind- from calvary. (this kinda of sparked my interest)

my sister booked me into the cmp first time because she went through them and i didnt know what to do, i was around 8 wks and got the second last spot and once i understood more about it all i was happy she did. its nice to have the same ppl supporting you the whole way

and for the public system i was very happy, especially when you hear so many ppl in other states getting turned away when they need special care.. like that woman from syd who was sent to about 5 places

canberra seems to have good antenatal/postnatal care

Canberra's system isn't too bad. I can guess which OB you've seen lots of notices for, as I said, i work at Calvary (in theatres) and so work with all the OB's regularly...means I got to know them all before I had to pick one, which was great! Glad that you are happy with the care you are receiving at CMP, have heard good things about them too
