I am looking to get a back carrier for Eliza and DH :D we both like walking a lot up hills and mountains etc.

What back carriers would you recommend I looked at the ergo but DH wasn't convinced. And I don't know much about them either.

What other back carriers are out there.

Eliza is 13 kilos and tall so something that can handle the weight and height.

TIA

Take another look at the Ergo, if I can carry around my 16kg daughter in it, then it's GOT to be good. :D

i have an ergo, hugabub and philnteds escape. i have a problem with shopping!!

for hikes i reccomend the phil n teds, my DS loved it and i easily carried him but usually DH did it.

its structured, like a seat up in the air really.

i love my ergo but like how in the phil n teds they can put their head to the side and sleep against it, if that makes sense?

I think the features of the Ergo I like are...

That you can wear it on your front (though probably not too comfortable at her size... your DH might be able to do it... I dunno), your side, or your back.

Another is the shape of the seat - it isn't damaging to the spine like some carrier are (like a Baby Bjorn-shaped one where the legs danger from the crotch... I know she'd be too big for that, but just needed an example).

The straps are really thick and padded - I like that.

Nappy bag was a big thing for me - you can buy a backpack that connects to the Ergo... so you have your bub in there, and then have the backpack on the back... it's annoying to carry a toddler around AND try to manage a handbag/nappy bag as well...lol. Can get a pack to put on the front belt thing too, to put like, a wallet and phone in if you need to access it quickly.

Just the general positioning of it made it comfortable... I mean, I can't carry my DD in my arms for more than 3 minutes without having to put her down and pant... she's so heavy. But she seems to weigh less when in the Ergo...

Also has a hood...if DD wants to go to sleep she just rests her head on my back and does so... and then I pull the hood up so her head doesn't fall around.

You can also get an extender belt if you're fat (like me:p ).

I dunno... I just really like it. lol.

What's so good about the ergo, she asks! Ha.

Well, you can carry your baby on your front, hip or back. It has a wide waist strap making it comfy as you carry most of the weight on your hips. It has wide padded shoulder straps and a chest strap for extra comfort. It manages to feel like a really good quality backpack without looking bulky or like you're going camping. It has a hood for popping over your little one's head to help them sleep. You can walk up and down very steep hills for ages and not get sore. All the best people have them. It has been scientifically proven that ergo users are smarter, funnier and prettier than other people*. People stop you in the street and ask about your baby carrier. Babies love them.

Oh well I am rather affluent so maybe I fit the description of the ergo clan :D

Sassy that was I was wondering the legs look really wide apart.

I am concerned about something Eliza gets very travel sick so I was thinking if she's just staring at DH's back or to the sides she might hurl on him :D lol so I was thinking something higher.

I am a fan of the ergo too - we hired a back carrier with a frame on a beach trip with DD1 when she was small and found that she was wobbling around above our heads a lot - a good way to get someone to vomit on you if ever I heard one!
With the ergo I like that my kids are touching me - it calms them straight away and means we can keep them in there for longer than in a pram etc.

I have both an Ergo and a Snugli hiking backpack with frame.
I REALLY recommend the Ergo over the hiking style! It is WAY more comfortable, and quicker to put on and off once you get used to it.
Carrying my 16kg 3 yo in the hiking one is a nightmare, in the Ergo it's great!

Have these ERGO fans tried other carriers I ask:detective: I have tried both the Ergo and a MACPAC VAMOOSE, and prefer the macpac. I like that I can loosen it right off to ease my back up if I need it and DD is still really supported. My DH also thinks it's a bit less girly!

The only way to really know is to try 'em out properly I guess.

I haven't ever tried the Ergo (last child and I wasn't going to shell out hat much money!) but I do use a back pack ALL the time. It's called an Ezi Carrier and has a tag on it that says BYE BYE with a teddy bear picture in between.

I bought it on Ebay so I don't know a lot about the background but I love it and carry my 21 month old in it all the time. He can see up over my shoulders and often "stands" up on the frame to get a really good look over my head and bend around to kiss me. :D It has a harness in it so he can't fall out.

It is embarressingly grotty at the moment but I took these for you anyway.

I am so converted to the ergo after using a framed carrier for my first 2 bubs. What's better? It is just so much more comfortable for me - and for bubs I think.

I used my framed carrier a lot because it was more convenient than a pram for a lot of places. Things that I didn't like about it were - it was difficult to get on and off, you have to sit it on the ground first and then put the baby in and then sort of swing it up, so you need room and a clean place to put it down. It is really easy for a larger toddler to fall over in it while you are trying to get it on and off. I almost always got sore shoulders/neck after a while no matter how well I adjusted it after bub was about 12 kgs. It was a pain to clean. It is bulky to try and take anywhere. Baby sits up at head level, so has free access to hair for puling and chewing, eyes for gouging and ears for sticking slobbery fingers in. I hated they way they would push up in the waist band with their feet and dig their shoes into the small of my back when I was carrying them. I think they fidget around a lot in it because after a while it isn't very comfortable for them either.

The ergo - I just love it. It is so comfy and my boys still fit in it even though they are 5 and 3.5. The sleeping hood is great and the ability to use it as a front carrier is just fantastic. Love it!!
