Ladies,
Has anyone else 'failed' their routine 28 week glucose test? I had to return to my Doctor today to do the 2 hour GTT test - which involved a fast before hand, one glucose drink and three blood samples. I have an appointment with my Doctor tomorrow who I assume will tell me how far the glucose levels were raised in the initial test - at the minute I don't know.
I was assured by the lady taking the blood today that lots of people come back from the initial glucose tolerance test with raised levels. Any information would be appreciated.

I failed my GTT with my first son and was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. It means you have to moniter your blood sugar levels throughout your pregnancy and really watch what you eat.
The good news is I didn't get it this time round.
Hope all goes well with you, don't worry to much even if you do have GD it is easy to manage and goes away after you have the baby.

I failed this test for my 2nd pregnancy but I didn't know that I going to have it so I ate yoghurt, grapes and a banana for breakfast. This probably skewed the results, sugar overload :o . I had the follow up test and didn't have gest diabetes. Good luck with your results.

Hi Ladies,
Thanks so much. I hope that I will receive preliminary results at my routine antenatal appointment tomorrow and will keep you posted. I have to say that I have been feeling exhausted and my cravings for chocolate/ice cream etc. are huge - but will wait and see what the outcome is.

Hi Treasure
I also failed my first GTT with BOTH PG  . But I passed the 3 hour GTT both times - so this doesn't necessarily mean that you have GD.
Best of luck - I hope your results are (were?) OK

Hi,
My Doctor today confirmed that I do indeed have Gestational Diabetes and I have now been referred to a Dietician and Diabetes Educator. My husband went with me today and she spent a considerable amount of time explaining what could happen. I will go for an additional scan at 34 weeks to check the size of the baby and to make sure it is okay I suppose and she said that there was a possibility that I will be induced earlier than my due date of 18th June.
I was upset and shocked to be honest when I was with her but she has reassured me that it should be able to be controlled by diet and exercise.
Just wanted to let you all know. Many thanks for your support and advice. Willsmum I will PM you tomorrow.

Hi, I a little late.
I had GD in both my pregnancies. The first I couldn't control with diet, so was injecting myself with insulin for the last 6 weeks of the pregnancy. The second I was able to control with diet. (Must have been the experience of the first time).
I found that these two books were great - The New Glucose Revolution Life Plan and the Low GI Diet book.
I found that I just cut out as much sugar and fat as I could and had smaller meals, more often.
Good luck and if you want to ask any questions, just email me.
P.S. I ate a lot of nuts with the GD, and then read a report that they are trying to link eating nuts during pregnancy with peanut intolerance in kids (Great!) You may want to re-think eating them just in case.
