View Full Version : So what's the low down with newborns and mcns?
I want to use all cloth with the next baby and am looking for some newborn mcn's that aren't too bulky but that won't use ALL of the baby bonus to buy them :D Any ideas?
I currently have fitted pockets and 2 BBBs for toddler, more pockets on the way but they'll be too big for a newborn I think :detective:
Any suggestions would be great girls

I am planning on using flats for the first month or so as i cant see the point in buying some then buying again :) thanks to the BH who told me it was the best way to go about it :D
I just brought some of a lady who makes them and sells them on ebay. They are really quiet good, and I got six for $30.00. They are not bulky and would suit a newborn, they do however need covers.
With #1, the hospital provided cloth nappies for free so I thought we'd use them while we were there. They were just the terry squares but omg the first time I went to change him, I couldn't get the pin through the nappy!!! So I gave up and put a sposie on him that I had in my bag :o I'm not a fan of terry's for that reason - the pins!! Bit of a wuss aren't I?
I was thinking maybe some PUL and old terry flats sewn into pockets? I think I could manage that......................

use those y shaped snappy things whatever they are called LOL cant remember :) and you can also get those snibs from the chemist they are a t shaped style plastic wrap that you tie at the front, thats what i will be doing for the first few weeks :) i just figure as they are so little and you change them all the time at that age its not really a hassle if that makes sense
I have a few hemp inserts here i will use with my flats though till bubs fits into the 4kg nappies
What are these snibs you speak of  Are they reusable or disposable? And are they used in place of pins or snappies?

They are like a plastic t shaped wrap you put it around bubs and just tie it at the front and it will hold the nappy in place (when they are little it works not so much when they move around lots) i used to reuse mine from memory they are about $10 a pack for 50 or something and i found one pack was more than enough (still have one half full from dd2 here lol!
they are used instead of pins and snappies as well :) just a soft layer of plastic really will try find a pic of them for you so you can see otherwise i can send you one if you want and you can see for yourself :)
Thanks Punk - a link would be good otherwise I'll have a look tomorrow. I need to buy folate anyway

Yep flats are great for the first few weeks or so then you can use your BBB's, other OSFA's or possibly even be moving into a sized nappy that will be suitable for a number of months.
You dont need to pin or even use a snappy on flats if you get covers like Bummi's or the Tots Bots PUL. All i do is fold the terry flat into a rectangle pad pop a liner on it then throw it in the cover & its ready to go.
I often use this on my toddler especially now im trying to get him to TT as he realises he is wet etc. Whereas a newbie only wee's a smallish amount so you are changing so regularily it makes no difference iykwim.
Are bummi's sized? Thanks Punk, I'll keep an eye out for them!

Bummi's are sized ... I got the small & we use them with flats or they quite easily go over the BBB's so no dramas in them lasting awhile yet !
