Well here it is, the birth story of my darling little Prince. Its still so hard to believe that last week I was sitting around waiting for my baby to come and this week he is here! This is how it happened….

Tuesday 25th Sept – Went out for coffee and shopping with a friend, came home and started getting pains on and off. They weren’t really that frequent so I put it down to Braxton Hicks and didn’t think much of it…

Wednesday 26th Sept – Went for second Fetal Heart Monitoring, noticed that my so called Braxton Hicks seemed stronger and more frequent than the first monitoring but didn’t think much of this either. Then we had my Ob appt, he decided to do an internal – usually this although uncomfortable doesn’t really bother me much but this time it was extremely uncomfortable and painful – then I found out why. I was 2cm dilated! The Ob said sometimes that can happen a week or so before labor actually starts properly but he offered to induce anyway to get things started sooner since things were already happening anyway. After some discussion with hubby we decided to go for it so we got booked in for next day at 6am….

Thursday 27th Sept – It was a weird feeling knowing that I was going to meet my little man this day. I got up at 3am coz I was so excited and couldn’t sleep (I regretted getting up this early later!). We got to Hospital before 6am and sat down to wait for Ob. He rocked up at about 7:45am and put me on the Oxytocin (sp?) drip. Then he attempted to break my waters – Ugh. This was even more painful and uncomfortable than the internal the day before. He informed me that he was ‘pretty sure’ he had knicked my waters and that things would get started soon. The drip caused my contractions to start properly but by 11am I still hadn’t leaked any fluid so the Middy decided to attempt to break my waters again – this turned out to be a lot more comfie than when the Ob did it and it worked! – Yay! After than things went fast, before long I was asking for Peth and when the Peth turned out to not do anything for me I asked for gas. The gas was good but more because it gave me something to focus on. I was in so much pain though and they told me the baby was posterior and that’s why it was more painful than my DS’s labor had been. So when I couldn’t handle it anymore I asked for an epidural. It felt like forever before the Doc came to do my epi but when he finally did it and it started working it was instant relief. I could still move my legs and feel what was going on but the pain wasn’t really there – if that makes sense! Things had been so calm but suddenly I had all these people in my room, there was about 4 middy’s, my Ob and a Paediatrician. My Ob came up to me with a very concerned look on his face saying that they are getting ready to take me down for a c-sect coz the babies heart rate is dropping. I started to get scared and between contractions I was crying and feeling confused and scared. Then my little man decided he had other ideas and a c-sect was not for him because I suddenly felt like I really needed to push and my little man started entering the world, the middies and Ob had the ‘concerned’ looks the whole way through the pushing, Ob did an episiotomy and they were all telling me to ‘push harder’ which I thought was impossible but somehow I managed it and with the help of a vacuume my darling little Prince entered the world. The cord was wrapped around his neck twice and he was very blue but the sound of him screaming was the most wonderful sound in the world and I cuddled him for a bit until they whipped him away to check him over. Hubby cut the cord and I layed back thinking “I did it...”.

And here is the prize I get for over 12 mths of TTC, one miscarriage and 9 months of pregnancy…. Well worth it I reckon!!
