So, it's been 10 weeks since Ella was born ( well almost) & my bleeding still hasn't stopped  . Well it has on & off for 1 or 2 days.... anyway I went to my doctor today & she's sending me for an ultra sound coz she thinks there may be some placenta left behind  !!! Well I hope she is able to find out what is causing it anyway. :o

Has anyone else experienced this?

I bled for a long time too, I think it was 7 weeks with 2 days off and then 6 more weeks. It finally sorted it self out but now I am irregular as hell with my af and things are just not right.

I did have retained placenta but that came out on day 3 but have since found out I have polyps on the uterine wall which could be the reason for heavier bleeding etc. Will be seeing a specialist next weekto find out.

I hope things are ok for you. You could just be one of the unlucky ones that bleeds for a long time and all is fine.

Thanks Kirsten... it is driving me absolutely nuts!! The bleeding is quite dark brown ( sorry tmi!!) which indicates that it is old blood hence why doc thinks it placenta. Well whatever it is I hope it sorts out soon!!!!!!:o
I hope your visit goes well & all is sorted for you too....:) good luck!!

Hi i too was sent for an ultrasound when ds was 8 weeks old as i was still bleeding and had some discomfort. Inmy case it didn;t turn out to be retained placenta, not sure what was causing it but it did settle down. Goodluck hope all is well.

Hi Becca
Just read ur thread and when charlotte was born about a month ago I haemorraged and ended up with retained placenta but thanks to my wonderful gp/delivering doctor she literally worked a miracle and we delivered it about an hour after she was born THANK GOODNESS. But she did say that coz she couldn't be sure it was all in tact that if I had excessive or continued bleeding for a long time it would be due to retained placenta. Anyhow the ultrasound will show it up good luck:thumbsup: .

Well, there's a little bit of retained "product" in there... :o I'm now on antibiotics to treat any infection & if that doesn't work than I have to have a curette (sp?) Let's hope the antibiotics work........

I hope it works out for you Becca-Rae. Goodluck and don't let them bull doze you into accepting everything they say if you still don't feel right.

I did and now its become a problem.:(

Will be gunning for a good result. Good luck:)

Hey B-R,

At least they have identified the problem - I know that this has been stressing you for a few weeks.

If you have a curette, it's not too bad but still nice to avoid it if at all possible.

Thinking good luck thoughts !
