Hi jlk

If I was to have anymore kids (which I can't) I would love to name them

Boy - Declan

girl - Mahalia

I love these names I also love the name Arabella, my hubby doesn't like any of them so I ended up with 2 girls named Jacki & jayme! (but their names suit them) :)

Hi there, we have just found out we are having a boy and we have loved the name Jude forever...

I also like Seth, Asher, Amish and Cohen for a boy and
Bella, Charlotte, Ava, Grace and Ella for a girl...

I just love names that are unique and strong for boys and pretty and feminine for girls :p

hi,

I am due on 23rd June and I am having troubles with boys names at the moment!

What do you think about Dylan Patrick? (surname starting with H).

I'm 90% on the girls name being Ella Rose.

Your feedback would be wonderful

Rose seems to be such a common middle name, not only is it feminine but it is also significant to me because my mothers name is Rose.

Hi everyone,
I really like old fashioned names but am really struggling with girls names because of the fact that most of the nice old fashioned female names are way too popular at the moment. If you look at the birth notices there are heaps of babies beng called Ella, Isabelle, Grace, Ruby, Ava, Charlotte, Lily etc. which is annoying becasue I love all those names but just don't want my child to one of the 10 Ella's in the class at school. We will just have to keep searching (we have come up with one that is not really being used but we're keeping it a secret to try and keep it that way - sorry). I also really like Olivia but that is pretty popular (and we have a dog called Oliver so can't really use it).

The boys names we like are Patrick (Paddy), William (Will) , Jack (unfortunately probably off the list due to popularity), Connor (actually my husband doesn't like it becuase he thinks he will get Con) and Nathaniel (Nate).

I had to reply since my little darling's name is Patrick and we call him Paddy! I hear you about all the old beautiful names making a resurgence which is lovely.......and yeah, some of the names are getting a tad worn out! Up until recently I worked in child care so I heard them all! At one stage we had four Ella's, two Isabella's, two Graces and FIVE Ava's at the one centre! I had my mind made up on Charlotte but not sure now(if my next child is a girl)..........I like Ivy too, a few around but not too many. Does anyone like Violet? I think it's sweet but lots of people have said it makes them think of the word violent :( Scarlett is excellent! Pearl is another of the old names that's been dusted off and I like it too. Perhaps those names will be like the most common names of my generation (Michelle, Kim, Karen, Joanne, Sharon, Leanne, Lisa etc)
I guess really if you love a name so much it shouldn't really matter how popular it is......we live in a society with so many names (ranging from great to tragic depending on individual tastes) that once they are in the big wide world it shouldn't matter too much. I s'pose I much prefer a name like the ones you mentioned (last post) than some of the awful made up weirdly spelt or American sounding names that are also very popular.....but that's my taste ;)

Jen

I have a Patrick John too, and a Sidney James and now thinking of a name for number 3...
I like Alice and Isabel for girls, but I'm a bit stumped for another boys name...
maybe Samuel ...ahh DH likes marvin (after Marvin Gaye) but not sure if I can do that!! I do like Mahalia for a girl as well.

it seems so much more difficult this time, probably because i know so many more children, so consequently names have connotations that sometimes puts me off, or else already been used by friends or family.
First time i didn't really worry about that, second time was a family name,
we've always taken a few days after the birth before we announced names as well.
Great for driving the rellies mad, but we felt we needed the time to see if the names fit

i'd use some smilies if i could figure out how

We love the old fashioned names too, but have discovered that our choices are very common - particularly Ella Grace. Chloe Lauren, whose names are both after family or friends, is not so common, but she was nearly Chloe Rose, which would have made her quite common too. (Or as we say - not common, just showing very good taste!)

So if we have a third......I will be checking the 10 most popular names for the year before for both girls and boys and trying really hard to stay away from them! Of course, at least if they are common they won't have to worry about people not being able to spell them etc.

thanks Jen for saying you like the name Alice. i always loved it (fave book was Alice in Wonderland as a child!). My husband opposed it vehemently all thru the pregnancy (said it reminded him of the housekeeper in Brady Bunch!) but relented at the 11th hour and now loves it!
The other names we had in mind for her (not surprisingly I suppose!!) were:

Ella (she almost got called this!)
Charlotte
Isabel
Madeliene

Very beautiful names but very popular at the moment. I don't think Alice is all that popular though. DOes anyone else know any other Alices??

hi Jen
Sorry for the late reply. didn't see this one!
Alice's middle name is Louise (my own) since she was getting DH's surname I thought I'd better give her one of my names as well!

The other middle name we considered with Alice was Amelia because we also loved it as a potential first name.

let us know what you decide!

Jen
07-05-2005, 22:29
Hi Louise,

Louise is my mother's name and I was thinking we might use that as a middle name, and Amelia is another I like :D , not sure what DH thinks, but he's usually pretty pliable after they're born.
I agreed to Marvin Anthony for a boy, with the proviso that I can change of course!
I'll keep you posted...... it probably is a boy again anyway! I'm so tempted to find out, but DH is dead against it. I wouldn't be able to keep it to myself either.
I didn't find out for the first two, but this time I feeln as though I need to be more organised. Maybe that's just panic at the thought of three!!

which boys names do you like?

Hi everyone,

I'm expecting a boy and finding it really hard to choose a name. I have a great list of girls names that I love...

My boys ideas are Christian (but does it sound religious?), Alexander, Justin, Cameron, Matthew,
(I tend to go for traditional names) but none really stand out.

I'll keep an eye on future postings, maybe suddenly I'll see the perfect name (does it happen like that?)

Cheers,
Mea.

The names I like change on almost a daily basis at the moment. I guess it will be more *real* once i am actually preggers!

My great grandmother's name was Alice, and my hubbys great grandmother is also Alice, so we have pretty much decided that if we have a little girl her middle name will be Alice after them.

As for a boys middle name...my brother died when he was 21 and I would like the boys middle name to be John after him.....

Alexander (Xander)

hi cath, i named my first born son Connor, i think its such a strong name, however i hope he doesn`t get called Con when he is older, especially when my partner is italian and my son has my partners curly hair, some people have joked and called him "con the fruiter" which drives me insain, but i am always quick to replie "My sons name is Connor NOT con. But im sure no matter what we name our children others will always find a abreveation with either there first or last name! :)

Hello again,
I love the name Connor and agree that it is a nice strong name. I love little boys with curly hair - he must be very cute. I would definitely be correcting anyone who shortened Connor to Con as well but I guess you're right that no matter what name we choose it will be used in some sort of way that we don't like at some point.

Hello to all the mums,
I have a little boy (well he is not soo little he is 2and half) and i am expecting my second bub in four weeks, and when our little man was born we called him Jason Patrick 'cos he looked like a jason, he as mousey brown hair which curls and the blackest eyes you have ever seen the type you simply can get lost in. Hubby and I found out what our second was (not by choice) at my 22 wk scan its a girl so now we have one of each!! We are in huge debate on what her name is going to be, myself personally like the unsual names like Yasmine, Tegan, Ella, Rosemarie but hubby dosent like them, hes more of an old school person when it comes ro names, but we have agreed to the middle name of Elizabeth thou which is good.
If any one has any suggestions on girls names it will be very helpfu.

I really liked the name Amelia until my husband said all the kids would tease "i'll make 'a meal of ya'". I have been put off ever since.

I quite like the name Shea (pronounced shay) for a girl, but now I am leaning towards names with more then one consonant.

I loved all the old fashioned names aswell and I can't belive how popular they all are now and it is kind of off-putting, however with my name Siobhan (pronounced Shi-vorn) there were three of us in the same form at high school, nearly as many as all the Kates and Sarahs!

So we've decided we love Bianca for this one.

I like Charlotte as a middle name and DH like Lauren.
Both sound just as lovely and flow with our last name.

If we were having another boy we were in a lot of strife!
We cannot agree on anything and clearly, we decided, picked the only good name out there for boys *TIC*

our Son is Benjamin Seth.

Names I like for a second boy are
Cameron, Noah, James.
And that's about it really!

I'm not due until next year, but these are some of the names i have been thinking about...

Girls
Paris
Isabella (as a middle name after me)
Tahlara
Delta
Haylee
Mikaylee
Leyna (means little angel)
Ella/Ellie/Elle

Boys
Jarvis
Ryan
Jarryd
Aiden
Adrian
Anthony (Only as a middle name)
Matthew (unsure about this one... what do u think?)

I dont mind whether a name is common or not, i just want something that is feminine and pretty for a girl and something that is strong and meaningful for a boy.

Hope i helped somehow.

I have always wanted to call my little girl Nova! For as long as i can remember. Her middle name was going to be Skull but i toned it down.

Axle is of course after Axle Rose from Guns and Roses! My partner and i had originaly decided on the name Busta for a boy but we're no longer together so it felt strange sticking to that name. Originally i chose the name Bones for a boy but was told that that would be cruel.

I only have 11 more days till my 18 week u/s and can't wait to see which name i'm going to be using!

I love Irish names and dh and myself absolutely love the name Kaelan Thomas, Thomas after DH's father and grandfathers middle names. We also have an Irish surname so I think it would go well together. I guess its one of those names that everyone will spell wrong, but having said that, my name is Rachel and it still gets spelled wrong by most people, so I guess you cant win on that count.
The best thing about slightly unusual names is that they usually have a story to tell :-)

If you were to have another baby what would you name him/her?

Mine would be

Boy - Ryan
Girl - Sienna

I already have a James, Skye, Ebony and Isabella!

Just curious to know :D

You have great taste in names, they're ALL good.

I wanted to name DD Scarlet Delilah...but I didn't get my way (now it's Chanel Elizabeth instead).

So if I had another girl, I'd definately try to get my way with Scarlet Delilah again.

I also like the names: Aurore, Versailles (said Ver-sigh - it's a french building), Sapphire, Ebony, Portia, Octavia, Olivia, Violette...

Dh and i had agreed on Payton for our next if it is a girl but now he has decided that he is "over it" now, i still really like it.
For a boy maybe Brodie or Bailey.

We are looking at really trad names for our next two (hopefully!)!

Matthew Joel and Jordyn Anna Blue

Pretty boring but I think they will be nice with our others ... Bella Cate and Daniel Arthur!

Well current bubby will be Sehana Scarlett or Jett Alexander but if we have any more we will more than likely use Caprice for a girl and we haven't really agreed on any other boys names- I like Ashton but my cousin had that picked out for his baby but used something else, i don't wanna seem like i'm copying kwim?

Df loves the name Ty but we already have 2 sons that start with Ry and Ky i don't want them all to sound too similar.
