I'd like to organise to take my son somewhere on his 1st Birthday in Perth but I'm not sure what there is to do for such a young one. I know there's the zoo and such but are there any other tourist kind of places that you think he'd like?

Also I keep doing searches on yellowpages and such but can't find cake decorating stores. I'm wanting a place that sells supplies to make my own cake (piping bags, special colours of colouring, etc).

thanks for any help you can give!

There is kitchen supply shop in Joondalup that I know rents the fancy cake tins, so they probably will have most of the other supplies. I'll try to remember the name of it.

Places to go - the beach :) The playground in Kings Park.

any kmart, target, or big w have all those sorts of things, along with spotlight.

i find going to a cake dec place for some things is much more expensive and something are cheaper, so shop around.

i have a great book on cake patterns for kids, or try your library. I'm unsure whether you have done it before, but it is so easy and fun, but don't spend allot of money getting things as you wont use them again, or very rarely.

anyways, have fun, give a shout if you need any help or suggestions.

I'm the nut that decided to try to make a character cake for my son's bday so aside from recipes not many books can help. Thankfully found the template (Blues Clues) online. I'm no where game enough to try the fancy tin one yet.

The problem I'm facing is that the local shops don't sell the food colouring I need. I'm not wizz bang enough to figure it out myself (nor do I expect to find the time lol). Wilton sells a pack of colour for Blues Clues that I'm trying to track down in Australia. Hopefully one of these shops you've mentioned will have it or can get it. Nothing's too good for my boy's bday!

Dee,

I went to this shop last week for Declans birthday, it has a huge supply of cake stuff. I was very happy with the cake I made.

Cake Tinz `N' Thingz located 2/ 6 Corbusier Pl Balcatta

I know a friend of mine has hired cake tins from them before and said they were good

I use the wilton novelty cake tins to make kids b'day cakes - which is fun but very time consuming!!! If your looking for the Blues Clues Wilton colour pack Ebay is a good place to look as well, if not google wilton and go there website and they have a list of wilton distributors in Australia.

Wilton cake tins are good once you get the hang of it - definately worth looking into for future bdays if you luv making cakes - heres a couple I have made

:o Thanks.

It all started 2yrs ago when my Thomas freak of a son wanted a Thomas cake for his b'day - found the Wilton tin on EBay, and now I have most of the novelty tins and an enjoyable little hobby

Would you be able to give me a bit of baking advice if I messaged you? I'm the kind of bake from a box sort of person but want to try to do this from scratch IF I can. Apparently the Blues Clues colours from Wilton show as no longer available. Such a bummer! I'll just find similar colours elsewhere.

Hi Dee I've found you *stalker* Don't forget that when you finish making that 'trial' bday cake for Ethan, I want in on the sample action!
I reckon that Ethan would love Aqua or the Zoo as places to go for his Bday.
C you soon :D

Lol ya nerd! :D

Will most definitely need assistance with the cake trials. YUmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Think those will be good places to go for his bday. I've told hubby to take the day off work so we can spend it with our little guy - lots of fun!!

Major Cakes it's called and it's awesome!!!!

Get some stuff called Dairy Whip, ask for it and ask them about it...it's great, Cholesterol Free, tastes great, you can freeze and re-freeze etc as much as you like as long as you keep it cool and it doesn't go funny, keeps for a year, you don't have to refridgerate your cake once you've decorated it...there are so many benefits and its very easy to work with.

I love it!

For my sons first birthday we hired an undercover area at Whiteman Park near a playground for the day. Just had a picnic with family & friends and it went down a treat. There is also Caversham Wildlife Park located at Whiteman Park which is quite enjoyable for everyone.
I can't help on the cake front tho. Baking is certainly not my forte!
