Hi everyone,

I know that your hair can fall out because of breast feeding, But mine is coming out in hand fulls and ive even got bald spots. I'm not that concerned about it, i actually think its kinda funny. I have the thickest hair ever, well did have.

I was just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?

Cheers

Hiya, iam still losing hair but not by the handfull and no bald spots.
Maybe you should get your thyroid checked. Hair loss can be a symptom of an un der active thyroid; also low metabolism and harder to lose weight.
Would definately get it checked by your doc tho.

My hair grew out of control during my first pregnancy. Not just on my head but arms, legs, down my belly etc... During bubs first 12 months this disappeared bit by bit including the extra head hair. My hair line had crept down my forehead a little bit and after DS was born it gradually receded again. A bit frightening at first until i realised it was only 'extra' hair.

It's quite normal for any woman, breastfeeding or not to experience hair loss at around 2-3 months postpartum. Mine comes out by the handful at that stage, and I think because it is so thick it seems like so much more... See your GP if you are really concerned but ohterwise don't worry... it's just one of those unexpected "joys" of motherhood :D

Hi,
I have waist length hair that is very very thick, my brush was full of hair each morning and night. I was worried and then I noticed that the fine wispy bits were increasing, so I thought it was growing back in. So don't worry as Keara said it comes with the territory;) .

I know exactly what you are talking about.

My hair really started falling out when my DD was about 6 - 7 months old. She's 9 months now. There is so much coming out that I need to vacume the floor each morning so she can crawl around without having a huge amount of my hair tangled between her fingers and toes.

I went to a Healthfood shop on the weekend to see if there was anything I could take. The girl said there isn't anything really besides the pregnancy and breastfeeding vitamins (like Elevit). She said they have the right amount of each vitamin in them so it won't harm my DD. Here's hoping it starts working really soon. We don't all look as good as Sinead O'Connor. ;)

My hair has only just stopped falling out heaps & MJ is 9mths. I too had long hair & had to clean out the brush everytime i brushed my hair.

A little helpful hint - I either go out the back, or stand with my back to the bath while brushing my hair. Then i can see it all & pick it up easier.

It's not breastfeeding that causes hairloss, it's the disappearance of the pregnancy hormone that stops you from losing hair for nine months... you're just losing nine months worth of hair!
