Seeking friendly faces in Carina or surrounding areas. Just moved from Melbourne, wanting to meet up and have a cuppa and chat (about anything plus kids). Also any tips on OB and hospitals nearby. I pass by Belmont Private but not sure if this has a maternity unit. My little boy is 2.5 and I am expecting a second later in the year. Just became a SAHM and not sure how to cope.

thanks in advance

hey :) and welcome to brisbane

Belmont is (apparently) the best hospital in queensland for PND treatment .. but I dont think they have a maternity unit...

I think your best bet is probably the mater hospital ?? most OBs in the region deliver at the mater...

the PA hospital is close to you too (buranda) - but again I dont know if they have a maternity unit ( I know they have a spinal unit... and a psych ward too... dont know about maternity  sorry!!)

If you have private cover and dont mind a 15-20 drive from home I can highly highly HIGHLY recommend Sunnybank Private... they had to KICK me out :D I sooooo didn't want to leave...

I am at carindale shopping centre ALL the time - if you want to meet for a cuppa I am happy to chat ... and shop... as long as you can tolerate a spunky - sometimes cranky 3 month old DS too!! Just PM me :)

ooooh - carindale is the only shopping centre i am game enough to ride my moped to! ;) it's about a 10 min. ride for me - so count me in for a cuppa ;) hehe

unfortunately i sleep most days, tho (i work thursday - sunday nights) :(

i travel to redland hospital (public). i heard from my aunt-in-law (a nurse) that it's EXCELLENT, so i decided to go there. my boss at work's wife also gave birth there & they both were very happy with it. but, they r getting busier there, so it's not AS good as it used to be, but i think it's still probably better than the mater, etc...

Hi I'm at Carina Heights and i'm not far from carindale shopping centre so if you want to catch up for coffee let me know!

I had my daughter at the mater and found it fantastic the nurses were wonderful and I had a great ob. I would recomend the mater to anyone. If you want the name of my ob just let me know.

as for a play group they're are a couple around here best thing to do is to ring playgroup and find out from them.

Hope that helps with your questions.:D

Wow...wasn't expecting any responses yet:D . Thanks for making me feel, not so homesick. Would love to meet for a cuppa at Carindale, what's a good place so I don't get lost (it's such a huge shopping centre). Mornings, say 10.30am any day next week, if it suits?

Thanks for the tips Jenny, I have now changed my profile (hope it worked). A 3mth old can't be any worse than a 2.5yr old!

KillaKaz- moped, wow, how does one get on a moped in such a delicate condition? Must be scary getting over the slopes around Brisi though....happy to meet when you are not sleeping during the day.

Zarby-what an unusual name, I love Zahlia too by the way! Could you please let me know who your OB was?

Waiting eagerly-Purple Ant

I am Carindale quite often as well and always keem for a coffee.
My DS is 9 months old and loves getting out and about, so count me in too.

My best friend had her bubs at Sunnybank and couldnt stop Raving about it. They seemed fantastic there.

I have also heard that the Mater private is excellent as well.

Not too sure about OBs though. Good luck with the search

Hiya Purple Ant and welcome!!:D

Greetings also to Veve, Zarbz, KK and JakesMum!:D

Hey Purple Ant, I'm also new to the SAHM thing - does your head in a little, huh?
Sometimes I just love it and other times %$#@*!!!!

Sooo, *shuffles foot wistfully* - can I come, too?? :o

Suggestion - The Coffee Club - right near ToyWorld/Darrel Lea - and close to the Parents with Prams parking spots??

Maybe next Tues/Wed at 10.30 - that way KK can come without dozing off in her cuppa!

Let's meet on Wednesday 1 March 10.30am at Carindale Shopping Centre. What about a colour ribbon on prams or wrists to ID ourselves?:D

Hopefully we will have Jenny (Jack), KK (Li'l Q), Zarby (Zahlia), Katie (Jake), Melissa (Zac) and myself Trinh (Anthony). Anyone else is welcome to join.

If this time is not suitable please email me at trinhlew@yahoo.com.au and I can pass on my mobile and we can chat. The Coffee Club sounds great! Thanks for the suggestion Melissa but which carpark number is the closest that you refer to and where do I enter from? Sorry still extremely lost after 2 weeks here.:o

Have only been a SAHM since moving here. I was working part time in Melbourne. Loved the balance so now I am a little overwhelmed at what to do with my time. I am thinking meeting new friends, swim classes, playgroup and maybe join a yoga group somewhere on the weekend. I also have a new bub to look forward to. How do others spend their time?

For those interested, there is a playgroup in Carina that meets on Fridays 9.30am to 11.30am at Nyrang St Carina, contact Kathy 3849 2369. Unfortunately I have not been able to contact her as yet. Will let you know if I do when we meet.

I am very much looking forward to some friendly faces in Brisbane. Thanks so much for making the effort already. I must check out Sunnybank Private and Mater. Got a GP appointment tomorrow to confirm all.

Thanks again.

i'll def. try & make it! :D

Q. will be with me - but still in my belly (i hope!!) ;)

purpleant - i'm lucky enough to not be showing too much for now (tho my tummy is getting bigger every DAY!) so the moped isn't too much of a problem yet. i'm just worried about coming off it & hurting my belly bub!! :(

dangerous being right outside darrell lea, tho ;) (& toyword! how am i meant to avoid spending too much money?! lol)

Hi Purpleant and welcome to brissy

Im in Mount Gravatt East , its just 5mins up the road from carindale shopping centre, i basically live in there!

I have a 9 month old baby girl and would love to catch up for a coffee and a chat sometime, im not use to being a stay at home mum either, ill see if i can make it on weds 1st march, but my little girl is recovering from a concusion at the moment, the whole right side of her forehead has swollen up, so she needs a little bit of quiet time at the moment! she fell head first on to a hard tile floor! we spent the last few days in the hospital so im a little worn out at the moment, but hopefully by next week we will be able to come out for a coffee!
anyway enough about my drama, im blabbing!

thanks for the info on the playgroup also, i just have never got round to ringing the playgroup association, good to know there is one in carina!

anyway let me know if the plan changes before weds, otherwise ill try and make it

I used the wesley hospital, its a little bit of a drive and its private, but it was fantastic!

21-02-2006, 14:45
Your poor baby:( . Hope she's recovering well. My little Ant had 3 stitches just before we left Melbourne. He decided to jump off the couch and landed on our coffee table during a session of Hi-5 song and dance! You can still see the stitches. It only takes a couple of seconds and it happens. Hospitals are not very much fun for little ones. We got stuck in Emergency for 4 hours and then the doctor went home without advising us the after care. This was a very prominent private Melbourne hospital too.

I hope you're coping. If we don't meet next Wednesday, then we can organise another get together for those not able to make it.

I would like to meet too. I am happy to go to The coffee club, but it doesn't have a lot of room for strollers, but there is another coffee shop straight down the escalator from the coffee club which has a lot more space. It is near the cosmetics entrance to Myer. Or Bay Swiss also has lots of stroller room. What does everyone think?

Hi all-Thanks for the great response and enthusiasm

I don't mind changing venues but I will not guarantee that I will NOT get lost...I will try very hard not to. The coffee shop in front of the Myers cosmetic entrance. That should be ok too.

So everyone, are we still having ribbons on prams/wrists??? I suppose it won't be hard to miss all the mums with bubs (even in tummies) at a coffee shop.

10.30am Wed 1 March 2006 Meet at the Myer Costmetic Entrance Coffee Shop.:smiliedance:

Can anyone tell me which car park number or colour to park in?

purpleant
26-02-2006, 17:07
Did a bit of investigating, the cafe in front of the Myer cosmetic entrance is the Gallery Cafe, lots of room for prams and tummies. See you all there at 10.30am on Wed 1 March.

Can I come too? I am mum to Ethan, nearly 3, and Madeline 6 months. I am regularly at Carindale and would love to meet some new people. There are quite a few groups of mums with prams around that cafe. How will we know the right group of mums??

Hi bbem, the more the merrier. Please join us.

Just so we can find each other, I suggested a colour ribbon on our prams or wrists? Any other ideas? Hope to see you all tomorrow.

Hi all at the coffee club. We were downstairs at the Gallery Cafe. So sorry for the mix up and change of venue. There were six of us when there could've been more.

We are meeting again in 2 weeks, I will post closer to the date to see if anyone else is interested.

Thank you to those that made an effort. It certainly felt good to meet some like-minded people and have a coffee/chat and lunch.

Again so sorry for the mix up! :(

Purpleant - not sure how you are going with your search for an OB but thought I would stick my head in to tell you that Dr David Lingard, who is quite lovely, delivers at the Mater and has a clinic at CArindale shopping centre on Tuesday afternoons so might be handy for you (otherwise his rooms are in the city).

purpleant
03-03-2006, 09:40
I enjoyed having some adult company and hope to organise something again soon, unless someone beats me to it.

You were not out of place at all KillaKaz. You did have li'l Q with you! She was just very well behaved.

Michael's mummy and Rosa, it's a pity we couldn't catch up with both your other kids. Maybe next time they can come along too? We can go to a place where the kids can actually run around (or crawl) without too much dangers. Maybe the local 'Lollipop' play centre up the rd at Cannon Hill shopping Centre. Any interest?

Thank you draught. I will look into Dr David Lingard's schedule. I know how hard it is to get in with good OB. I am doing a tour of Sunnybank Private this saturday and seeing my DR on Monday for a reference. I just hope I get in quick enough.:fingerscrossed:

Hi all

Wondering if we are up for another meeting. I am free next Tuesday 14 March at 10am or Thursday 16 March 10am. Anyone else up for a coffee and chat? Same venue, the Gallery Cafe in front of Myer Cosmetic entrance, or I am open to other suggestions?
