I am pretty sure I have tonsilitis, I am wondering if anyone has had it and got medicine to help fix it. I have had it for a week and am 32 weeks pregnant.

I don't really want anti-biotics, can they they give me pregnancy safe ones???
I don't want to get donw there for them to say you have to wait it out. I have stopped talking as it hurts too much.
Any advice would be appreciated thanks,
Mel

you should definatley see you gp! They will give you amoxacilan (sp) I am taking it right now for a tooth infection and I had to take it 2 months ago for a sinus infection..its totally safe! Tonsilitis can cause fever and lots of other problems for you and the baby, its better to take the meds!

Thanks for that I will hopefully get tot he docs on Tuse after all the public hols and weekend. Hope it doesn't last forever, feel like after I cough I have asthma which can't be good for bubs. Hard to breath when I am all stuffed up in the nose and the throat.

I would get to the Dr ASAP...years ago I had tonsilitis and thought I would wait it out (I got it often)... by the time I got so sick my DP had to carry me into the Drs, she had a BIG go at me as tonsilitis can make you REALLY REALLY sick (and potentially, even though unlikely, kill you)... it is an infection. Left untreated it can spread around your body. Not nice.

You can take the AB's during pregnancy.... I usually avoid them as much as possible pregnant or not, but for tonsilitis, I would have no qualms it taking them straight away.

I hope you feel better.

This is probably too late now as I saw you were going to the doctors yesterday but for future ref, if the infection is not severe you can gargle several times a day with a teaspoon of salt in warm water. Tastes like cr@p but helps kill the bacteria. Also a Panadol crushed up in a dessertspoon of honey (providing you dont have an allergy) also helps with the pain.
I get chronic tonsillitis and I swear by these two home remedies as I hate antibiotics unless I absolutely have to take them.

Thanks for that the doc said it wasn't so bad but I thought it was, had sore ears like an ear infection he looked in them, I think he just didn't want to give me anything, he told me to buy some cough lollies it's been 2 1/2 weeks now and I just can't shake it. Trying to be positive and know that anti-biotics aren't great for bub so I will just wait it out.
Thanks for all the advice.

There are category A1 antibiotics available (COMPLETELY safe - tested on a large number of pregnant women over a long period of time with nil negative effects observed in the infant), and its important to be treated for infections appropriately...
