Just wondering what others are use as Insect Repellent for me to try. I tried the skin off stuff, which was said to be fine for sensitive skin, but DS broke out a few weeks ago and we have only just got in under control again..

Mozzies are extremely bad here, day and night!

Wanting to go camping, but wont go cos of his skin and the whole mozzie thing, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

I'm with you there - our mozzies and nasty little midges are revolting and I'm worried about DD, as they eat me alive. We haven't tried any repellents yet, but have a bug zapper going in the back yard. It does help to reduce the number of mozzies - we certainly noticed it after a few weeks. I will be watching this thread for any good suggestions. I was going to check out gaia to see if they make any, as I have heard their products are good.

I made my own :) get a oil that is safe for bubs skin or an oil that doesnt aggrivate thngs, mix with a little detol and a sorbelene cream and it works a treat :) the mozzies seem to hate it and dd gets it really bad, same as when ds had it really bad this didnt seem to affect their skin at all.
I did use baby oil at first but it tended to aggrivate things a little, then i used just standard vegetable oil and it was fine :)

Mix the sorbelene and the oil equal parts and then put about a quarter detol :)

We use an Avon product. Can't remember what it's called but it's for sensative skin. DS doesn't have sensative skin but those types of creams can be very harsh on their skin so I use a sensative one anyway!

Do you just put it in a spray bottle....

See I didnt realise how bad DS's eczema was, until he was sick the other night while I was having a bath, and so I jumped out and put him in, and I had Radox in it, his skin went red raw, and was really bad.....

I then used insect spray on him (skin off!) and it flared up again....

So it took ages to get back under control!

Can I use anything instead of Sorbelene? As his skin doesnt like that either!

Thanks for the home made remedy Punkbaby!

You dont really need the sorbelene if you dont want too the oil is enough just the sorbelene tends to make it stick better thats all, any moisteriser is fine though i usually use the QV one if making a small batch.

I put it in a pump bottle tends to not spray that well but you can use that too if you have a spray bottle thats a little thicker nozzle wise than normal :)

I hope it helps, you can use tea tree oil too if you like but seems to harsh on the skin :)

Good luck

Just saw in the chemist a product called moov.
Ingredient is Maleuca oil. For kids over 12 months. Have not tried it but sounds OK. Another mum (another board) uses Maleuca oil based products for her child with eczema - clothes washing, hair care. May be worth a try.

I use Scatter Bugs, made by Cherub rubs.
Ingredients are:
Aloe vera gel
rose floral water
witch hazel extract
and lavender and lemon eucalyptus oils.
Hasn't bothered the girls and they both have eczema. Also smells great and lasts ages. Not quite as effective as aeroguard, but still does a great job. You could probably try making it yourself? I got it at a healthfood shop.
