Research for new idea!!

I need some help with ideas of things new/expecting mothers need that aren't readily available in the shops (or too darned expensive that makes you wonder if they are really necessary.) I'm looking along the lines of sewing and wood work, so I guess "Crafty" things that you would find really handy but don't want to pay out as much for.

As this is a research idea for myself i ask that not too many ideas are posted on the thread and I will endeavour to nut out whether it is worthwhile to start this up once I am home with new bub.

Please pm me any ideas.

DS is obsessed with his muslin wraps and I have been trying to find some really cute edgy funky wraps that arent too expensive iykwim.

I have of course seen the ones from monsta mode, fish, bubba blue, LTC essentials, kiwi wraps etc BUT the ones with the great looking patterns etc are all like $30-65 each:eek: which is way too expensive for me LOL

I have seen at spotlight you can buy the muslin material but they only come in pascal colours and besides I cant sew!

Maybe this would be a good place to start? Or not?

hiya, i like the wraps idea. Also; snuggly's or baby blankets? At the moment my bubs is using an old pillow case as his snuggly for bed and i dont want to use something too big or he covers his face with it. The only blankets you can get in shops are in blanket material; really need something in cotton or muslin or something if bubs is gonna suck on it.

Yeah was thinking along the lines of wraps, blankets, sheet sets etc etc. Even might venture into those soft dolls ..... hmmmmm I used to be great at doing things from a pattern ... you know shorts and dresses following strict, for dummies instructions. But as I haven't had much maney leading up to Declan's birth (and having GIVEN EVERYTHING away after Alana) I made alot of things just from looking at them in the shops. Can cut prices of Most things in half from shop prices.

Hmmm ..... guess I just gotta give it a go. Will wait out the 6 weeks - not allowed do ANYTHING - rest period then get cracking..... keep the ideads (AND PITY POSTS!!!) coming!!!

sorry, i wanted to post earlier for u, but couldnt think of ANYTHING!! it's a little harder for me since i havent had my baby yet ;)

however, when u mentioned 'sheets' i realised that u hit the nail on the head!! cot sheets often cost as much as, if not MORE than normal ones!! a cheap set will probably be COVERED in pilling after one or two washes.... so maybe CUTE cot sheets made from something that's pill resistant??

Really nice blankets that are big enough to tuck into the matress of a cot, maybe patchwork - country cottage type thing, Oh cot sheets where the fitted bottom is attached at the bottom to the flat top sheet so when u put on the fitted bottom sheet your also putting on the bottom of the top flat sheet - Confused????? Only ones I've found retail for around $90 a set and they so sooooo brillant!!!! Belly bands - u can buy them on e-bay but i reckon u can sew them for a cheaper price than they have them

How about cot sheet sets that don't come with a pillow case? Because pillows aren't supposed to be used with baby's anyway. Maybe a sheet set that has a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and muslin wrap instead of pillow case.
I've got a couple of these baby sized pillow cases which sat around in the linen press for 4 years until now, Vallerie uses as "sleeping bags" for her dolls and teddies. :D

You know what I have seen on Ebay and that is custom made sheets..so say someone wants a sheet with a bunny on it you sew the shape of a bunny or names onto sheets etc...some are very noice :D
