Does anyone know of any good nappy rash creams, as im finding hard to find one that does anything for DD.
Thanxs.
I like the curash one, find that one works the best for me, my friend swears by pawpaw ointment for a natural alternative.

My MIL (she is the head of western surburbs maternal & child health centres) put me onto using zinc cream and we have had no probs with it!:) I also got told to use the curash baby wipes instead of huggies ones (or simular) because a lot of babies get nappy rash from them too.:)
best wishes

I like the curash cream as i always apply that with every nappy change to help & find its usually a good defence but for when bubs has a nappy rash i had used bepathen (sp?) & sudocream which have worked well. There are other who will hopefully come in & advise you as they have tried some other things that have worked.
My main thing is to make sure bubs has her nappy change regularily as well as keeping the barrier cream going even if she isnt showing signs of it. If your using disposables id maybe suggest using cloth as these tend to be softer on bubs bum but if its cloth then maybe their not in the sun long enough to help with bugs & the liner isnt soft enough or doing its job of keeping wetness away from little bums.
Another thing is to make sure if bubs does have sensitive skin is watch what your using in the bath & also how often you bath her as i found with my bubs i had to cut back to every second day & change baby wash as he would get red raw otherwise.
Last but not least if it continues head off to the doctors as there may be an underlying issue.
Good luck :)
hey ..
sorry to hear that your DD is having a rough time...
I use sudocream - a sample came in the bounty bags??? the midwives recommended to me that a zinc cream be applied every second (ish) nappy change if bubs has a sensitive bum...
they said that bepanthan (which I adore.. and apply to myself for EVERY cut/ bite) is too strong for common use on bubs as it is an antibacterial cream...
dont be afraid to write emails to companies asking for samples... explain that you are searching for a remedy - it would suck to spend money if you aren't sure you will like the product ( I got heaps of different samples before DS arrived)
good luck..

I actually use Bepanthen and haven't had a problem, but my DD got really bad nappy rash at the beginning (it didn't help that we were having 35 - 40 degree days!!!) We ended up needing to get a prescription cream (hydrozole) because hers was a fungal thing - which is why all the nappy rash creams we were trying weren't getting rid of it.
So if you've been trying all sorts of different creams and none of them are working, it might be worth a trip to the doc to see whether it's a fungal thing and not just a plain rash. I couldn't really tell the difference, because it just looked red, like a nappy rash. We only had to use the special cream for a couple of days, and we haven't had a problem since.
Good luck.

Thanxs to all your advice, i have just brought Bepanthen cream, so i will see how i go with that. The Curash cream didn't help, but i do like there wipes.
DD had to have prescribed cream for her when she was younger so i wiil visit the doctor if the Bepanthen cream doesn't work, maybe she might need that cream again.
Thanxs again for all your help.

I always use pawpaw ointment
Paw paw or calendula cream always clears it up straight away - no yucky chemicals:) Not using baby wipes at all helps to avoid it too:)
Paw paw ointment or what
i found to be best is AROMABABY nappy ointment. All natural. Comes in a glass jar, I usually bought it from target/baby target. Very good stuff. Only need a tiny bit. It was the only thing that really worked for DD she used to get nappy rash bad even tho I would change her as soon as she wet even if it was only a tiny wee. Just a sensitive bottom and especially with the heat- it makes it worse.
Try to give her lots of nappy free time as well. After changing her nappy let her bottom air dry for 5 min or so, this helps alot too.
Oh, I have also found that the curash POWDER works really well in preventing it from coming back, just be careful not too use it if the skin is broken, it can irritate it more.

Another vote for calendula cream. Most nappy creams are full of chemicals, and if you are using the wrong one, it can make the rash work. (Fungal rash and a thick ointment is a no-no) Even paw paw is a petroleum based ointment, so I would stick with something natural, aromababy or brauer cream or straight out calendula.
Before applying anything, I'd first narrow down what sort of rash it is eg. thrush, teething, contact etc. Then once you know what it is you can more effectively treat it.

How can you tell what sort of rash it is?
Is it white and spotty, kinda pimple like? I *think* that's thrush but since we've never had it I would recommend getting a professional to check it out for sure (eg. health nurse, dr etc). For thrush you will need an antifungal cream and to wash nappies, bedding, towels etc thoroughly to prevent reinfections.
Is it just red around the anus? That could be a teething related rash or a reaction to acid foods.
Gotta go, these are just some suggestions.

Like Lucy said i find when bubs is teething he gets red raw & its worse if he has had too much acidic foods .... norti mama :(
But when it looks worse than red i take him straight to the doctors just in case as you just never know which i think may be the best option for you especially if its not clearing up.
Hope all goes well. :)
I used every cream imaginable on DD, and spent a fortune.
With DS, I use plain cornflour, straight from the pantry. I have a flour shaker of it on his tall boy with his nappy change stuff, and in over a year I have only ever used some cream on his butt once. He has had rash so bad that it was bleeding and within 4-6hrs after cornflour was put on, you couldnt tell that his bottom had ever bled.
Its amazing stuff, and at 90cents a bag, its cheap too ;)
I have read this thread with interest as my three week old daughter has had a rash for two weeks! I've tried bepanthon, sudocream, cornstarch powder, curash powder and nothing seems to work.
I changed from using Babylove disposables to Huggies and that has certainly helped (Babylove were cheap and nasty on her little bum and she kept getting those gel crystals in her nappy). I would ideally like to use cloth, but she is so small that I'd have major leakage problems, so I'll have to wait till she is bigger!
At the moment the redness is gone and she just has a few dark red patches where the rash was really bad. I'm cleaning her with Kleenex aloe vera soft tissues and sorbolene (stopped using wipes for fear of making it worse) and then drying her off really well, applying a thin layer of sudocream and also giving her at least half an hour a day of fresh air after her morning bath.
If this doesn't work, I guess I'll have to go to the doctor. :(
As a new mum... am I doing the right thing?
Hey there:)
Maybe stop using all chemical products (including the sorbolene.) Just good ole water and a flannel does the trick:thumbsup: I really think alot of those products cause more problems than they're worth. Make sue your bub is really dry before putting the nappy back on and give lots of nappy free time - in some filtered sunlight if you can. If this doesnt work, please grab some pawpaw ointmennt, it is AMAZING stuff and is totally natural.
ood luck, I am sure you are doing a fine job as a new Mum!:hugs:

hi i found most of the normal creams it not work very well with my two kids. so with the first i was put onto pawpaw cream and it worked so well. it's fantastic. but my second son had a skin reaction to pawpaw so the doctor suggested baby zinc and castor oil cream you can buy it at any chemist and it works fantastic. if the bottom is red put it on and by ext nappy change it's all good. hope this helps.:)
Shannon, it sounds like you have tried almost every cream on the market. You poor thing. It's frustrating and scary, and I know when Matthew has had a pink bum, I have blamed myself... not that I should have, because I did everything I could in my power (other than try disposables!) to fix the problem. On the 2 occassions it wasn't simple to fix, he had infections, and the GP needed to see it and diagnose it... every over the counter cream in the world wouldn't have helped, nor would disposables. These things happen.
I would recommend seeing a GP. There's a chance she might be allergic to something in your diet (if you are breast feeding) or maybe the disposable nappies.
I would ideally like to use cloth, but she is so small that I'd have major leakage problems, so I'll have to wait till she is bigger!
Hundreds of people use cloth on newborn babies, even prems! You can get itti-bitti to toddler size fitted nappies, as well as some that fit all sizes. And re. leaks, the covers make all the difference. If you haven't already seen them, have a look at the *new* PUL covers on the market, motherease, bummis, baby beehinds, to name a few, are well known and liked. We used terry squares on DS in the early days, and had practically no leaks at all... it's the cover that counts! Have a look at www.ozclothnappies.org for more info about modern cloth options!
Hey there:)
please grab some pawpaw ointmennt, it is AMAZING stuff and is totally natural.
Simmonds Paw Paw Salve is natural, Lucas paw paw ointment (red tube) is paw paw + petrochemical (petroleum jelly/vaseline type base) not natural at all and can make things worse.
Thanks for the advice! :) You won't believe this but since my last post, my daughter's bum has drastically improved! The red patches are disappearing and she seems happier when I change her... beforehand it was a screaming and kicking match!
I think it was a change to Huggies from the Babylove nappies as well as not using wipes.
Where can you get this paw paw ointment?
YAY - that's great news!
Where can you get this paw paw ointment?
I did a quick google search:

Whenever DS starts to get a little pink I make sure that I use face washers only, no wipes.
The best cream I've found by far is the Amolin brand treatment. It has a lovely consistency (isn't as sticky as zinc), and smells lovely. DS got a bit of a rash with the heat in Melbourne a couple of weeks back, and this cream had it just about gone within 2 nappy changes. I'd tried the sudocrem and bepanthen before that and didn't do half as good a job.
You can get the Lucas Paw Paw cream in the health food section of the supermarket (normally kept where the gluten free stuff etc is).
