I was on my last week of work getting ready for 4 weeks off before my actual due date of the 15th of Feb. At 12noon i felt a trickle of water, thinking that i had just peed myself i thought nothing of it. So i ring the hospital and they advise me to come in and get checked out as they needed to make sure if it was my waters that had broke.
So i get to the hospital, with my friend with me and they confirm that my waters had broke. Being it was my first they said that they would keep me in overnight for observation to see if my labour progressed naturally and if it hadn't then they would need to induce me.
So i get checked into the a ward. By this time i was having regular period type pains which i find out is actually contractions. they started coming on very regularly so they do an exam and advise me that i'm already 4cm dialated.
So i go back into the birthing suite and the contractions were getting stronger and stronger. They were practically on top of each other. I didn't have a chance to catch my breath before the next contraction came. My husband just got there in time at about 3.30pm when i was just getting ready for the epidural to be administered. That was a god sent.
By 5pm I had given birth to a 5pound 11 baby boy. I think the most painful part of my labour i found was getting the drip in some of those contractions.
I'm glad that i didn't have those 4 weeks to sit around a dwell over what was to happen, i had noo choice but to deal with it.
So that's my birth story.
