For DD's first birthday we asked family to give a present for a time capsule for her to open on her
18th birthday.

A wonderful bubhubber came up with this rhyme for the party invite

Soon I'll be one, time passes so fast,
so instead of more toys I'd like gifts that will last.
Think of things peculiar to my special day,
mummy and daddy will take them and hide them away.

Then when I grow up my gift it will be,
And I'll know just how much you all think of me!

So pictures, papers, things that will show
Just how different the world is to that I now know.

We received:=

Photos albums of her family and her.
Bottle of wine for the year she was born.
Magazines for her birth month.
Stamps withher picture of her on them
Books and frames with info relevant to her i.e. birth stone, sign.
CD's of current music

Much better than a load of toys that will be lost and broken:D

Thank you everyone. I just wish I could think of something for all her birthdays. DH comes from a big family so she receives a crazy amount of presents. I'm dreading it as she gets older at least at the moment I can hide them and space them out.

For future birthdays why don't you ask for a small 9ct gold charm and you'll keep a list of who give her what

We got my DD a bracelet for her first birthday, and instead of pressies from Aunts, Uncles etc - she gets charms

She now has over 50 charms and I have a list of who they're all from and for which birthday/Easter/Christmas etc.

She wears her bracelet on special occassions and she can "have" it when she's 16 or so
