Hi All

I'm new and wanted to introduce myself and stop hanging on the sideline. I live in Brisbane and have just completed our first cycle of IVF, well actually it was third, but this time actually got to the egg pickup stage. DH and I (both 35) TTC 2 1/2 years, one m/c. IUI a dismal failure.

First time after spray and injections puregon 720U (tablet sends me loopy), only 4 eggs, did not proceed.

Second time, I ovulated without permission (ha).

Third time, Jan 06, the pickup yielded 4 oocytes, all crappy and unusable, not to mention my DH contribution which was just as bad.

I'd really love to hear from others who have had experience with IVF. I'm frustrated, hormonal and annoying (ok, i can admit it). i'd love to hear what went wrong with other failed attempts, and how many and if u have been blessed to have a beautiful baby. We are starting to prepare for a life without children and are a little lost right now.

Hi kerri, So glad you are joining us in this site!! Geez, sounds like you have had a hard time! Im sorry things havent worked out so far.
My husband and i were TTC for about 2-3 years then realised we needed help. We did ICIS at Melb IVF as my DH has a low sperm count. It took us 1 year to get pregnant with treatment (5 failed attempts) as my ovulation was a bit out of time as well. It was a scary, emotional and hard time doing the IVF but we were blessed with our miracle boy on Dec 4 last year! i will be going back to Melb IVF for my next bub. Hope to hear more from you, and hope you hang around with us.

Take care and welcome!!!:p

Hi Kerri
Hang in there. I have lovely twins after my second attempt at IVF (ICSI). I know how frustrating/heartwrenching it can be but its worth it in the end.

Try to stay positive, I know thats hard, remember you are not alone and we are all thinking of you.

Hi Kerri
Im new to this site as i've been previously using an ivf site. I too have a miracle baby using IVF - DD Aspen was born 15/11/05 and was after our 3rd transfer. I had 2 canx cycles due to overstimulating. It's an emotional rollercoaster but so worth it! We'll be starting again mid year for baby #2.

Hi Kerri and welcome!! I just wanted to say to hang in there with the IVF because I believe that sooner or later you will get results. I have had a rough trott over the last four years with miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies and finally resorted to IVF because I no longer have my fallopian tubes.

I am 6 weeks pregnant today. I was very fortunate and fell pregnant on my first IVF cycle, but was extremely lucky to get that result. I had a stuff up with my Synarel (nasal spray) and wasn't getting the correct dose so I was lucky I didn't ovulate on my own and loose all my eggs. Even with the eggs that were collected (17) and fertilized (9) only 2 embryos were good enough for transfer and none were good enough for freezing. My clinic said this was probably because of the stuff up with my Synarel.

There's no denying that IVF is an extremely trying time. DH and I only completed one cycle and that was enough to send us both kooky.

I am on the Gold Coast and have been going through Queensland Fertility Group. Is that who you are using in Brisbane??

I wish you loads and loads of luck with your next cycle Kerri....

Hi !!!

I have been TTC for 5 years and have never been pregnant. I have had every test under the sun and so has my hubby, and we are both perfectly healthy, ( with my womb being described by my Dr as beautiful and pristine!!) so our infertility is a complete mystery!

We are in the middle of our first cycle of IVF, ( and one embryo in the freezer!....well not OUR freezer obviously!) currently waiting and hoping with fingers fiirmly crossed.

I think everyone who has experienced fertility problems can really feel your pain, we all know what its like , and how hard it is.....and what stress is places on the relationship.

This site has been great for me, just to have others that understand and can answer questions and just add support......and to hear others stories and know that it really IS possible and that there is always hope.....as hope is the hardest thing to have sometimes..... dont give up hope!

I think its also really important to take time out for yourself, and your partner when you feel you have had enough.....listen to your soul and look after yourself.

anyway welcome, and feel free to join us in our "chat thread" ..... ("First IVF cycle in few days ") you will find everyone is friendly and supportive.

peace

Welcome to the forum. I too am new here and have just commenced my first IVF cycle. I've been on Synarel for 10 days now and go for my first scan next week. I hope its all working ok now.

First week I had a lot of strange symptoms but this week is alot better, just irritated sinus and tired eyes. I'm having hottish flushes the past 24 hours so that might mean things are happening???? I keep telling my DH I am older than him now.

We are have ICSI as my DH doesn't have the enzyme on his sperm to break into my egg.

Totally new to this and of course its quite consuming, wondering what will be.

Regards

Al

Welcome Kerri, I wish you all the best on your journey and I hope it is as short as possible. I am also in Brissy.

Our story

Hubby and I have been TTC since November 04, and I read that if someone who has had a hernia operation the fertility specialists are worried about the semen count. Hubby had two double hernia operations (one at age 5 and other at 18). We went to the doctors to do some tests, one to see if I ovulate and second to check on DH semen. We got the results and they couldn’t off been worse, Hubby has a zero sperm count. We were both shattered.

We then made an appointment with City Fertility Clinic (in Brisbane- great clinic) the FS checked both Hubby and I over. He did an internal on me and he said I was just about to ovulate (I was on Day 13), did all measurements and he said things look "perfect" from my side of things. He looked at Trevor’s testies and said they were a good size and he said he was 90% sure that he has a blockage and said he has sperm in his testies. Hubby went into hospital for a biopsy (pesa and tesa) and that will tell us how much semen is available if any. After the biopsy they found some sperm but it is not good enough for freezing so now our next step was IVF/ICS and when I do the EPU, hubby will have to have the biopsy at the same time to get the best possible sperm.

Anyway a long story short, they found sperm and I had eight eggs and then transfer two embryos back and I am now 24 w preg and we have two on "ice". I really didn’t have any side affects with the IVF drugs, I think I had it in the back of my head that I was OK and my biggest worry through the whole IVF journey is "I hope they find some sperm". I was also very fortunate that IVF worked on our first cycle.

Take care.

Kerri

Hi, me and my partner have just found out (yestertday) that we have to use IVF if we want to concieve. Iam 23 and my partner is also 23. We have been TTC for 2 yrs with out any luck. And late last year we had tests and this year started seeing a specialist. I had a lapaascopoy just over a week ago and they found losts of endo. So the Dr said our only hope is IVF. And we are both scared and worried about taking this long and trying journy. We are going through monash Ivf in melb. Has anyone had ivf from there? We dont know what to think.

I think you are at the right place on this forum . You will find lots of support from other Ladies that have been or are going through IVF at the moment like myself .
It's normal to be scared and worried . I'm going through IVF Melbourne and I find the staff fantastic and I just "have to follow " what they want me to do which gives me A LOT of relief ...
Feel free to ask questions , we will try to answer yours as much as we can !!! with our own experience ...

Hi Leanne, Welcome to this amazing site of strong and positive women. You will find alot of support here so if you have any questions just ask. I also did IVF and had a son last year on my 6th cycle. It is scary when you are told that IVF is the only option but like Beatrice said once you start and find out more about it is a bit of a relief cause the doctors and nurses take over for you and you just follow what your told to do and it takes you another step closer to having a baby!! I also went through Melb IVF and they were great, i've also heard good things about Monash so you will be in good hands. Keep posting.:)

Hi ladies,

Well, you may have read my other update on my thread.

The pick up has not occurred this week. Not enough stimulation so doctor upped the medication .....

I don't think my Synarel spray is working as well this week which concerns me. Yesterday I felt really ordinary in the afternoon but today I basically feel good.

Tomorrow I have the third scan and will know what is happening I hope. Will let you all know.

Hi All
My husband and I have our initial appointment for IVF on Monday,he is 20 years older than me and had a vasectomy 16 years ago when he and his first wife had their last child. We looked at a reversal but they are more expensive than IVF and have less of a success rate.We are going to Westmead IVF any info or comments would be mighty appreciated.
