Hello,

I was wondering if anyone used one of these for their newborn? Are they safe? They look like they would be a suffocation risk (all the research says no pillows, bumpers etc for babies) and I was wondering how these were any different?

I have used them with both ds and dd, i havent heard if they are a sids risk but i cant imagine the big name baby stores etc would stock them or there would be some mention there if this was the case. Snuggle beds are quiet firm much like a mattress just with a lip at the side, i imagine if they were soft and spongy then yes they would be a risk. Pehraps this is why they recommend you only use them for a short period?

ummm..cot bumpers you will find at most big name baby stores...even the little fake room set ups they have in their stores sometimes have cot bumpers in the cots ;)

I used a snuggle bed for my dd until she was about 4 months old. She loved it.
THey are breathable, so even if bubs head/face goes up against the side, they can still breathe. I don't think my DD's ever did tho. But that's what I hear.
I'd recommend them.

I used a tetra snuggle bed with my DD and we got it because of the fact that the contents are breathable and not increasing the risk of SIDS. Mind you, we mainly used it from birth onwards (til 4 mths), when DD wasn't able to roll, so she never was face first on it anyway!!
We found it great to use either in the cot or when at someone's house and you want somewhere comfy for them to have a nap (much better for neck and spine than keeping them in a baby capsule or a even in a pram!!)! I would def recommend a snuggle bed

i was mattress shopping at a baby store yesterday and wondered something similar myself. the shop assistant was trying to turn me off buying a matteress from target "cause they r a SIDs risk but then procedded to try tio sell me a snuggle bed. IMO these would be a higher risk then a normal matteress it is easier for a baby to get trapped on the side then it is for them to roll to their stomach.
